morning All
My hand is much better today , have been able to wash my hair in the shower. Have a lovely day Ros & Frank at the wedding ,hope the weather stays nice, Its cloudy here and really windy. so far no rain
David I remember the school milk bottles, they sat in a crate all morning often sitting near a sunny window or radiator , not that you got much sunshine in Sunderland, On a real wet and windy day, when you went for a walk along Roker promanade the sea would be lashing against the pier, I remember kids would stand too close to the edge and the water would come up and soak them they loved it screaming and running away, I was never alowed to go along the pier as a child, I can remember once or twice on the local news that some kids got swept over into the sea, mum and dad would tell me when I was little "look the waters hanging up" really the things you believed when you were little later on the put up gates so you couldn't get on to the pier.
I could see the sea from our front living room window and I would sit often by myself on an evening watching the ships go by, this was when OH (boyfriend at the time) was at sea , I knew he would never go past the window as he was always away in some foreign country or other. When we got married and I went to sea with him, Mum would write in her letters that she was sitting watching the sea as she wrote to me, Ah memories, what a long time ago,

Remember at school, the milk. Everyone got a straw with their bottle of milk. Not everyone wanted theirs and I often had another two. I'd drink it straight from the bottle. Distinct memory of class master saying,Irvine, don't you know some cat's p**sed on that.
Funny the things you remember.

Oh it's any excuse for them to drop 'em Jane! Mine is just the same and always wants you to rub any ointment in as well!! lol I hope they are better for tomorrow's walkies. Did he manage to get it all done?
We had a bit of a panic a little while ago. Great clonking noise from the back of the gas fire in the lounge. OH fetched me through to listen. I thought it sounded very loud to be a bird and was wondering if a squirrel had got behind the fire somehow. It is one of those that fits straight in the wall, off the ground with no hearth. We trouped outside to look on the roof to see if the flue top had been fetched off and 3 Magpies flew off!!! They were the culprits, trying to yank the rubber seal and flashing off. Most mornings they are at it with the bird mesh in the gutters too and I have to get up and rattle the window. When the guttering was all renewed we got the chaps to stick all the flashing down on the conservatory as they had ripped that. I haven't seen them doing it on the neighbours roofs.....most odd??
I have just found 1 child in a family and he alone was born in Tasmania. They even made his middle name Hobart which is the capital of Tasmania. All the other children and his parents were born here and were here on all the censuses. Another mystery to sort out......not another convict I hope. lol
Off to bed now, hope the sun shines for the wedding photos. I do feel tired today and have done nothing. Night, night everyone xx

Looks like the hurricane Irene will pass closest to Shirl over the next 2 days. They have plotted it's expected route on google earth. It will have lost some strength by then but still 70mph! I hope she will be ok.
I saw a funny 'weed' in the raised bed a little while ago. I couldn't tell what it was so teased it out gently and on it's root was a big peanut and shell!!! We know who the evidence points to, so I wonder how many more the little scamp has buried. I might pot this one up as a houseplant. The sawn down palms on the front are growing like mad again now.....both of them.
Oh William!! I would have said yes for a copy for FIL, but he has all the musicals. I think some moments turn us all into silly old fools and we are all the better for it.
Yes, I hope all goes as well as it can tomorrow Frank. The poor groom, such a mixture of feelings for him. It is sad that such an unhappy memory will always be linked with the happy one.

Nice to hear you are a soppy old date .Just like me.I can cry at the drop of a hat lol.I used to sing in a choir. The church choir! I was always in trouble with the vicar for mucking about. One of my friends (Leslie)used to bring a Sloworm)sp) and keep it under her cassock lol.It caused a riot and a right dressing down from the Rev Bromham..He actually was a lovely man and put up with a lot from us rabble in the choir. We did sing well though

Hi all, We ventured out between showers today, visited some of the charity shops in the area. Always good fun.
Anyway, just wanted to warn you all BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR! My grandson of 30 has joined a male voice choir & as I used to sing in one we have a lot in common. They are now adding 'When you walk through a storm, keep your held held high etc'. So I was telling him that it's from the film Carousel, one of my favourites. Actually, when my daughter was born (before men were allowed to linger in the maternity ward like persona non grata) I went home, put the record on, listened to Billy Biggalo's soliloquy, 'My Little Girl, sweet as peaches & cream etc' and bawled my eyes out with happiness. Come to think of it, I still do when I hear it, soppy old fool! I digress, anyway, so I'd been looking everywhere for a video or CD copy (hence the charity shops). Meanwhile my grandson said he'd got a copy via the internet. What I'd forgotten was, that at my wifes suggestion, I put an appeal in the YOURS magazine. Bet you've guessed by now. So far I have received five videos, one CD and a letter from a lady asking me if I still wanted a copy if I had not been inundated aleady....she got that right! Now it it's costing me more in reimbursements, writing letters and postage stamps than I'd ever dreamed. I'm a softy, people are so kind, I can't do anything but thank them. Our post lady has a big smirk on her face as she pushes even more through our letter box. I'm dreading the mail coming again on Tuesday.
Pssst, anyone want a copy of Carousel!
In a previous post I was saying we got the bus to Hinckley. While we were there I saw this kiosk, bit like a phone box. In actual fact is it was an independant ATM. What made me laugh was the emblazoned across the top and bottom were the words 'FREE CASH' . I thought - "I wish....."
Well, that's got us away from steam irons, flat iron, illegal flex, and multiple light sockets. Anyone remember the old bowl fires? We had one, circular, copper it was, with this round projector element in the middle that glowed a menacing red. I had a nightmare as a lad in which this thing formed some old crones face - I hated it after that.
OK all, I'm done nattering, hope you all enjoy the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend. I'll ctach up with you all soon. Meanwhile stay dry and don't let the limescale get you....

Frank is it local news (the man and blackberries) or national?
Chris is still on that blooming roof.He keeps coming down when there is a shower.I told him I didn't want to find him up there frazzled if there was lightning .Touch wood he is still safe, but knack***d.I think he has nearly finished. Ann ,Chris always does his own packing .I'm not allowed to touch a thing.Suits me fine lol. When are you off?

Jane , Sofia will be 2 on the 8th September that is on the Thursday, Daughter no 1 will bring her down to get her presents, but we will not be celebrating it as a whole family till the Sunday when we will be all together, as all the men of the family are at work during the week, she's still a bit young to know the difference anyway,
Mandy, mood board is nearly compleate, I have cut out pictures of Kitchens and accesories from Home mags and printed photo's of the internet, I have also taken photo's with my camera of some of my mums pottery utencil jars and pottery coffee, tea and sugar jars that I love that she had in her kitchen . and also took photo's of floor coverings and tiles from Homeba*e and B*Q Have chosen several neutral colours for walls and adjacent colours like teal and blue and green for tiles, I may change the paint colours nearer the time but at the moment I quite like those colours.
We managed 1/2 hour sitting in the garden this afternoon the sun was quite hot, but the dark gray clouds came over and we had to come in,

Gawd...Haven't been blackberrying for years!
Used to collect them every year when I was young as we lived out in the country. Nice big fat juicy ones!
Mum used to make blackberry and apple jelly jam. Mmmm I can smell and taste it now!
Autum was great too for collecting mushrooms in the field at then end of our road.
Hazel nust too in the woods overlooking the Avon valley between Bradford on Avon and Freshford.
Someone in our village had a massive walnut tree in their back garden which backed on to some 'tin' garages, a favourite playing area for us kids. Funny how the walnuts fell off that tree!

Teresa, Great to see you on the threaqd. I have seen you on others. We moved into our bungalow 14 years ago. everything has been replaced, and it's a good as we can make it. Ros (my Wife) would like more space, but there is only the two of us, so how much space do you need.
Blood# hell, didn't it rain. I pooped (JANE) down the pub to see the football, When I was due to come home, it was pouring down, so I had to stay for an extra pint.
Ros has popped down to Toddington, it's Hasrvey's birthday today. and being a typical Mum she wants to see him and give him his present. We are seeing him tomorrow. But she says it's not the same as having your present on the day. WOMEN
Haven't been out blackberring this year yet. Will have to go along the canal, and see what I can find. We also have an old disused railway that i could venture along. but it's out of the way, If i fall over there I might never be found. (WATCH THE NEWS) old man lost picking blackberries. :-
Trust you all enjoy the rest of the day. I'm off for a cup of tea.

Ohh a woman after my own heart Teresa!! We downsized 11 years ago and bought a modern bungalow. I don't miss the stairs to climb either! lol Guess what we have in our back garden......lots of shingle and a couple of raised beds for salad and veg!! Sounds like yours was a very good move too!!
I can remember picking the crust off fresh loaves .....mmm.....and being told off.
Jane, I have my case down now to start packing.......underwear, first aid stuff and nightwear can all go in, before I start on the difficult to choose stuff. OH will pack the books I want to take.....he does his own packing anyway, was always staying away with work so he has his own way of doing it!!! lol
Blueberries make my favourite pie Anne. I grew one in a pot once but it died. What variety are yours? I think it is acid soil they like isn't it? I used to pick wild bilberries with mum as a child in Staffordshire. They are similar but much smaller.

Ooooooh Frank...... I agree "there was nothing like a big "NOBBY" (the end of the uncut loaf) covered in beef dripping with salt and pepper"
That was the first thing I did when I got home from school..many many years ago.
Mum used to get cross with me, of course, then Dad would do the same with the other end of the loaf whilst wating for his tea!
No wonder I had lots of curls when I was a kid!
Sun is shining here in West Wiltshire..a lovely day.
Had heavy rain and thunder yesterday afternoon..just after the new replacement conservatory was finished. Good timing or what
Yes moving last year was traumatic and ruddy expensive, but well worth it.
We are only the second family to occupy this bungalow built in 1965.
Had to replace all radiators, have a new boiler and renew some of the electric wiring, plus add some extra plug sockets. Just about used up my pension lump sum now but as we're both retired I want us to be warm, cosy and comfortable as we're not moving again!
I centainly don't miss those steep victorian stairs in our old house or the long narrow back garden that faced north east..
We now have a lage wide back garden that gets the sun ALL day....when it shines.
Already spent a fortune on flowering plants etc., and even grown some runner beans and tomatoes.
One side of the back garden is down to shingle, so next year we hope to put in some raised beds and grow some more veggies.
I just love our bungalow. Mum and Dad would have loved it too!

Well the weather today is very unsettled. Started with warm sunshine and we walked into town and back in the dry but it has been raining heavily for about an hour now. Hope it stops soon as we are going to a friends " party in the paddock" this evening. This is a fundraiser for the village church and has music and a hogroast and, thankfully, a marquee. Bought a new pair of Merree**s in town in the sale. They are super sandals and should do nicely for hols.I think thats everything I need now and I have spent a fortune on cloths recently which is most unusual for me. Gosh but I remember the old brown flex and bakerlite plugs. I still have my mothers Balerlite hairdrier somewhere in the loft, it used to make a terrible noise but dried your hair really well. Fiona Glad to hear you are returning to normal and hope your hand soon settles. Someone must have had trouble putting your drip in. I hate having these things done as my veins never want to respond and I often end up like a pin cushion.
Frank It is good to know that Ros is feeling better and feeling more positive. Having a celebration to attend must help but don't overdo it either of you.
Jane Hope Chris is still safe up that ladder. Hubby always climbs the trees to prune in the autumn and I just cannot watch I am so scared.
Have been stewing apples and picked another batch of blueberries before the rain came.We must have picked about 2 pounds now from our two small bushes so am well pleased as they are so expensive. It's still pouring so had better find the wellies for later
