It's my Granny's birthday today! she'd be 108 years old!! anyway, Happy Birthday to her wherever she is! Last night Ian dropped and broke the glass plate that goes inside the micro wave!!! He was drying it and......'it slipped out of his hands'!! how stupid can you be, I've told him 100 times to do things like that over the table in case, or, better still, let me do it!! He was trying to help! Oh well,The road road to Hell etc etc! today is VERY wet and the pigeons are holding up their wings, either to have a bath or shelter, I' not sure which! Nothing much on today, just pickling around!

Morning William and all,
Drizzly here too this morning. It started to rain last night quite late adn has'nt stopped since. OH is not amused as he has the roof off half the garage.
William I remember my dad talking about those radio programs. I used to listen to Listen with Mother in the afternoons when small.
We had a caravan at St Osyth on the beach there and a transistor radio in a small suitcase type thing that ran on batteries. Dad always listened to the play on a Saturday night in bed while we were there.
Did Hancock's Half Hour start on the radio? Dad also said Fumpf has spoken so he must have listened to that too.
Frank nice to think that Ros has had something to eat, never mind that it was somewhere else but you did'nt see how much she ate of it. Did you see my post about getting her some multi vitimins??
Hope kim is getting over her trip out now and is feeling a bit more like herself. Sending you my love............. <3
Pat how are things on the decorating front today. You must be nearing the end now so that you can get straight again. Glad you are pleased with the bathroom.
We played lots of games when I was young, snakes and ladders, ludo and when older monopoly. Card games too with an ordinary pack of cards or the Lexicon ones. Domino's with grandad and we had a shove halfpenny board that was grandads which I loved playing with him. Also a huge pin ball game I once had for Christmas with all the pins in it and you had to ping a ball bearing up a shoot which bounced around the pins scoring points qwhen it got stuck in one of the pinned areas. Jigsaws or course too.

Morning All.
William I remember some of the radio and Tv programes.
I remember listening to listen with mother at 1.45..I used to drag my chair up to the wireless to hear better,That was the time my dad went back to work after his lunch hour..
I also used to go to the Odeon on a sat morning..Remember people boo-ing when the film broke down...People in the galleries where bad they had pea shooters up there and also spat on you. It was safe to go into town those days on your own on the bus...
Well I have been up from 5.30..kept waking up.. Did a few things downstairs like puting 8 jigsaw together and reboxing..Just couldnt be bothered last night. I had anice time with the grandchildren yesterday.took a picnic to the park..so hot but it didnt stop the boys playing footie.. Saw the clouds looming then started for home... we all ate an icecream on the way back.. except for the 5 year old who wanted sweets, My granddaughter is 13 and a half and her brother 10 then their half brother 5..It is the 5 year old that is moving to Paris on the 26 for 2 years.. with my son and his partner..They had to fly out yesterday for a meeting with Bos*h who he works for and to try again to find somehwere to live or else they will be put up in a hotel until then.. We got caught in the rain ..nice an cooling but we missed most of the storm our way..about 10 miles away they were flooded.
I am waiting for the plumber to arrive to put the bathroom back together. but at 7.15 the painting firm arrived did a couple of odd jobs they are now waiting on the plumber too..I just managed to wash myself in the kitc hen sink before they arrived...then when they went off to collect something I managed to wash hair there as well. I have a hosp appointment at 2 so it is all go..I am also waiting for a charity firm to arrive to collect a Welsh dresser thats not needed anymore I will read though your posts and try to be back soon

Morning everyone, bit drizzly for a change here, might cool me down a bit. This remembering lark has got me hooked now, good for my ageing brain cells methinks. I was thinking of all the things we enjoyed in the way of home entertainment before these days of multimedia, mobile phones, TV Dvd's et al. I used to love the radio when I was a boy and for a laugh would listen to ITMA (Its That Man Again) with Tommy Handley. A couple of the characters I recall were Mrs Mop ("can I do you now sir?") and Fumpf (Fumpf has spoken). For adventure it was Dick Barton, Special Agent - with his trusty sidekicks, Jock and Snowy. For detecting it was Paul Temple and his wife, which had a lovely intro tune. Scaring me to death was Valentine Dial as The Man in Black. I remember one was all about the room with the yellow allpaper, and that night I was terrified to go to bed! On a lighter vain, afternoons home from school we had Childrens Hour with Uncle Mac - plus of course jolly goings on with Just William by Richmal Crompton, and his ever ongoing pranks with his mates (Ginger was one) while all the time trying to evade Violet Elizabeth Bott, who spoke with a lisp. I also loved the Saturday Night Theatre plays, and would lay one our settee until I felt myself drifting off to sleep. I often felt I wish I could be transported up to my bed without moving. (That's one thing that hasn't changed with me!!!) Saturday mornings were for the kids cinema Clubs, I belonged to the ABC Minors and a similar one at our Gaumont at Chadwell Heath. We had a badge and sang our song at the start of every show ("We come along, on Saturdays mornings, greeting everybody with a smile" etc etc) There were great Westerns, (we thought so then anyway) Roy Rodgers and his horse Trigger - Hoppalong Cassidy. For comedy there was Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamore in the 'Road To' series of films. On a more subtle note was the humour of Jack Benny and his faithful coloured servant Rochester, with his hoarse voice. That's all for the time being folks, my wife is calling that it's time for breakfast. You all have a nice day now (I pinched that bit from an American film!) Stay positive and I'll be back soon to see if your all behaving yourselves. William

Shirl ,we still get those Jelly Squares.I remember stretching them like mad to separate the squares and them melting them in a jug of boiling water.Stirring with a wooden spoon to get them to dissolve. There was always some little bit that refused to dissolve.I think i will have to and buy a pack now lol.We always seemed to have Strawberry or Raspberry. The fans here are on full force but don't seem to be cooling anything unless you are sat right next to one .I have one blowing on my back right now and it is lovely :-D I think Fiona has been to the Doctors today .I hope things went well .
I am dragging my heels now as I really don't want to put the cooker on lol.
I found a very dead tiny crispy (newt)? just now.In the same place as the one I found last year.(the one that might have still been alive )Some of you will remember that one ;-)I have taken a pic of this one on a bit of kitchen paper.I thought it was a stick when I saw it.

Nothing wrong with that FOGGY showing our age. It's nice to know we have these stuck away in the backs of our mind. As I have said before on here, I could write a book on things that happened to me in childhood.!!!!
HOME ALONE. tonight. Ros didn't feel comfortable about driving, so Jan came down this afternoon and took her back to Rutland. She will stay the night there, and Jan will take her to the hospital in the morning. Then bring her home.
Got caught out again this afternoon. Sitting in the lounger with my book. Poped in to see if Ros wanted anything, and the sky's just opened. I had my Ebook, the telephone and my straw hat on the lawn. I had to rush out (slowly) to get everything in.
Over sixty years ago I had a big wart on my left knee, I think it's coming back :-0 :-0 :-0 Got a real hard, grothy type of lump on the same place. Can that happen ?????
Foggy, Lombard street, E.C.3 was one of the last roads (STREETS) to have tar blocks for the road surface, another bit of useless info. THERE IS NOT A ROAD IN LONDON'S SQUARE MILE. all streets, passages, etc.
Hope everything went well for you today Pat, and the weather didn't spoil it for the children. How are the paiters/tilers getting on ????
Jane, When Jan arrived just after four this afternoon. She said that around Corby/Kettering the rain was so bad that they were down to 10 MPH Hasn't arrived here yet !!!
Annx, I trust you are felling a little better today, so easy to twist and hurt yourself. I take eight Co-Dydramol 500mg every day, for the dis- comfort from my stroke. I must say it certainly helps when you need any pain killers
Kim, I hope you are getting over your Sydney trip. I was only there two days, but I loved it !!!!
Mandy, You must be more careful at your age. :-D :-D :-D I have just put my tin helmet on.!!!
Will go and get something to eat, then have a wash and change, and go on the PULL TONIGHT. (I SHOULD BE SO LUCKY) Down the pub for a couple of beers, That me for now.

Not that I am being a miserable so and so.I wish I could have a nice paddle on a sea shore somewhere. That lovely feeling of the water washing over your skin and your feet sinking into the sand .Oh Bliss. I will have to make do with a bowl of cold water lol
I must tell everyone.Foggy is a lovely lovely man,a real gent, and so young looking. ;-)I met Foggy last year at the Peterborough and again this May at the London one.(I hope I haven't embarrassed you Foggy)

Good afternoon everyone,
It's been another scorcher of a day today, chilled out and did nothing, just lazed around.
I was trying to recall about where I lived as a child after the war years, and I remembered how quite a few of the streets were made up from wooden logs that had been soaked in tar. I know its hard to believe, but I remembered when it rained I often used to slip on them when rounding corners on my bike.
Like |Mel fairy godmother I also remember all the bombed sites, there was quite a few where I lived in the west end of London. I vaguely remember as a child having to go down Baker street underground station when the sirens went off, and can remember people used to sing a lot.???? Shows our age..lol.
Foggy :-)

I'll be thinking of Ros tomorrow when she has her hospital appointment.Good job Jan is doing the driving as it is a bit of a trek
Lots of thunder earlier with just a little rain.Chester got himself in a state as usual. He is now flopped out on the floor .I just hope we don't have thunder in the night as it will mean me coming downstairs with him.
Ann I love those cheeky things in your neighbours garden.Fancy the magpie waiting like that.I don't put any food out for the birds now And your OH in the wars again?? I have a picture in my mind of a gigantic bandage on the finger lol I have had gallons of iced water today, but must have sweated it all out as I don't think I have been to the loo.You wait it will catch up with me in the night :-S

Afternoon All,
Well, every post seems to be a pulled this, a twanged that and a twisted the other!!! I've been taking Ibu*rofen this week while I've done so much outside. Frank, you have my sympathy with your shoulder (as does anyone else suffering!) .....it is very painful when you do that.....hope the frozen pea poultice helped. Mandy and Mel take care too. Mel is so right, you think things are ok and forget and before you know it you overstretch and ping, back to square 1. I bet the little chicks loved exploring.
That was a brilliant free cinema treat for the 2 eldest Mandy.....at least Katie isn't old enough to think she was missing out and make a fuss, even though she is too young to sit that long anyway!!
OH managed to slice into his finger with the secateurs while dead heading yesterday......blood everywhere. I managed to sort it out and he ended up with a big finger with the bandage on to hold together the flap he had cut. I told him he should keep it higher than his heart for a while till it stopped bleeding. The finger he cut was next to his ring finger........so he stuck the finger up in the air in front of him!!!!!! I said 'whatever you do, don't walk around like that at footie tonight or someone will deck you making gestures like that!!!!! lol
The little squirrel was back this morning, hanging upside down on nextdoor's feeder........I took a few hazy pics through the window.....will see if one is good enough to send. Jane, I can never tell the difference between those birds.....you had quite a few of them there on the ariel.
Frank, I'm glad Ros has a hospital appointment........you are right she can't carry on like this. It may help to have Jan there too.....she must be noticing the weight loss and can back up what you both say. I hope there is something they can do to ease her pain without making her feel so ill. Lots of XXXXX for her.
It took ages at the haidressers this morning 2 and a quarter hours!! My hairdresser, who is the manager was there on her own the first hour and a half as the others were at a meeting .......and the phone did nothing but ring!!
Hope all goes well today Pat and that you have a nice time with the grandchildren.
Kim.....don't overdo the treadmill, will you!!
I think Maureen will be outside lapping up and loving all this hot sunshine on her new deck or elsewhere!!! lol
