Afternoon All,

Sunny and hot here.......ants under every stone in the garden this morning.....right little nippers got in my gloves and shoes! I told OH we'll mount a war on them next year as soon as we see any. We managed to put the second spike in for the rotary near the shed.....guess who got to hold the spike while it was hammered in !!! lol OH is worn out now, watching cricket in the bedroom. He was moving rocks and gravel this morning and went down the tip with a carload of weeds and rubbish. We popped down the road for chicken, ham and brie jacket potatoes after......to tired to get anything at home.

Maureen I got your EM, but no pictures?? :-S :-S It sounds as though you had a great time with your daughter.....good to walk and chat.

Pitman Painters sounds good Anne, I think I would enjoy it. I see it will be coming to Coventry in September, so will see if we can go nearer the time.

Mandy, could you use the manmade slates on your roof.......I think they may be a bit cheaper and less heavy? It sounds a lovely idea, no more rushing indoors with hands full of plates when the heavens open!!

Jane, you are living it up or 'lording it' lately!! :-D First Luton Hoo, now punting with champers, strawberries, chocs and shortbread!! How fantastic.....!!! It sounds like you had a great time again.....looking forward to the pics. It sounds like Ethan and his mum are not having the easiest time at the moment.

Jane it sounds like you had a really good time even though it was tiring (sp)? What a lovely idea to go punting on the river with all the goddies laid on.

I have not gone shopping as it turned very hot here. Just picked some more plums off the other tree on the south wall. I now have about 10 lbs at least. Shall have to take them up th elocal shop I think as no room in the freezer.

Hello my Darling's
Well we are home after a fantastic day yesterday.I can't begin to tell you how tired we all are.
The wedding was lovely .I poured the glass of wine for the Bride and Groom with out spilling it or crying lol
After the service we had drinks on the lawns in the courtyard at Queens. Then we had a surprise. We were all taken for a punt on the River. With Champagne,Strawberries,Chocolates and Shortbread. It must have taken ages to organise how many punts and work out who was going with who in which punt. Not too easy getting in and out in all the high heels short dresses(some were very short ;-).It took about half an hour ,and it was lovely to see all the different colleges. It was so busy though. We bumped into so many punts and the girl punting ours lost her pole so we had to float around for a while until someone rescued it and brought it back.
Afterwards we then went for the reception and meal in the Old Hall.Wow! what an amazing room.It is Tudor.I have pictures but haven't got them on the computer yet.
I needed a few tissues when the speeches were done, and Chris and I were on the top table.
After the meal we then went the 4 minute walk to the Hotel for the evening do.Where the cake was cut ,and then the music and dancing began. It was all a bit crazy as the evening went on and more alcohol was consumed lol
I had my fair share which helped me get on the dance floor and boogie :-D :-D
I think Chris had gone up to bed by then.(Just couldn't stand the pace). It was 1am by the time I got into bed.I'm aching a bit today lol

Rachel managed to do her reading at the ceremony, but her poor Hubby was outside with Ethan the whole time as Ethan started to cry .She obviously couldn't to the punt trip which was a pity. She did manage to have all the time at the meal so didn't miss the speeches and had some good food. She did miss out on a lot of the evening do though.

Kate(the bride)'s Mother is good friends with Amy Winehouse's Mum and apparently Amy's cousin should have been at the wedding.Obviously she had to pull out.
Oh ,I think Chester has just got back.Car in the drive.Must go .BBL

Maureen, At the moment I am reading "CANE & ABEL" bu Jeffery Archer on my eBook. 334 pages. About two boys, one born into a banking family in USA the other a Pol.ish boy found by a family in the wilds of Poland in a basket. It turns out he was the son of a Baron. He ends up in USA after being a prisoner in his Fathers Castle and being sent to a prison camp in Russia. It's all around the 1900s including the Wall street crash. If you can get it, it's a B good read. Been in the garden all day with it. Just come in for a cup of ROSIE LEE

Ros hasn't been good today, Only had a glass of milk. and doesn't want dinner tonight. What am I doing to do with her :-D :-D :-D :-D

What time is young Jane due back ????? I hope she behaved herself. !!!

These reporters Shelia, aren't interested in getting the right picture, as long as it looks like the sceene. We get Anglia news here so haven't seen the report

Everybody with the sunshine must be enjoying it and out in their gardens even though the East coast is suppose to be rain !!!! Poor old MANDY.

Hello to everyone how are you all
What a lovely day the sun is shining and I am in the mood for lots of housework.Got behind just lately.

Anne the advent of the gas cylinder is a mystery. On your news!!
Our neighbour Stephen who lives next to the alleyway did his nut today
the Mail had a picture of his house and said here is the scene of the crime.Showing his garage and his house. He was up to us have you seen the bl oo //dy picture its our garage they are showing the cheeky so and so s wait until I get on the phone and see the police he was having a fit .Reminded me of Victor Meldrew.
I had to smile what is happening in this world today.
The garages are down the alley by us three wooden garages that used to belong to a car dealer The mans gone and he left a gas cylinder behind .
There is a women with two dogs and two men one about thirty and one forty who have been sheltering in the garage and somehow Saturday the cylinder blew up. We were out shopping .Some people say it blew up with a bang and some people say it was turned on and just caught fire with no bang. Anyway one man was burnt all over and is very ill and the other is in a bad condition with face burns. Who did it is the question.

Nothing surprises me you should see the mess in that area I saw three drunks getting through the fence when in the alley the other day with my dogs and it scared me to death they suddenly appeared in front of me.
Anyway enough of unpleasant subjects.

Frank my mum had to have a wheelchair and she said I am not going out
with you pushing me in a wheelchair. I can amagine how Ros must feel.
I got mum in the chair but gosh it was heavy to push do they do lightweight ones now especially up and down curbs. But it was useful for the shops that had slopes because it got mum out and she could pick her shopping. I used skim round and do my own then take mum I got an expert at pushing it in and out and used to tazz sometimes and she would laugh. I just made it fun and did not treat her like a cripple. I did remember once I nearly lost her down a slope I stopped to pick up something and let the chair go and it went off with mum shouting her head off and lucklily a man saved the day and mother was more upset because he said to her Your ok granma dont worry and mother blew her stack dont you call me granma you cheeky so and so. He was a labourer
and he said give me mum and I will tazz her down the road for you. I did tell him he was being flippant. But it was good fun me and my mother became experts. just coax her gently into it. Poor Ros she wont want
sympathy it is awful for her. ever wish you could wave a magic wand.

After my heart attack people said do exercise easier said than done and one lady even said to me its all those crisps and chocolate you eat caused
that heart attack . I said I moved concrete but to no avail had I been healthier it would not have happened .People should shut up and not say anything to Ros would she be like that normally no .

I watched lovely bones I saw it at the cinema it was disturbing I thought
but had a good theme and I loved the in between life aspect of the film.
it shows the power of close families. I remember once Ashley was missing all day by llpm I was frantic and was sure something bad had happened and my elder daughter said about 10 30pm mummie I was looking in Ashleys writing book and he went to Sarehole Mill today and did not tell you. Sure enough he had and I phoned the police. They found the little perisher locked in a store room that he and a friend had gone in by the caretaker crying his eyes out . His mate knew he was there and was too scared to tell his mum. Shell somehow had the insight to look in that book we did not and find his scribbling how she knew I dont know.

Well I hope Jane had a lovely time shes had some nice outings lately.
I had the terrible threesome here today with some cake for me which I refused a lower tier all for me. Pandoras 50th birthday Elvira was not wearing anything much and Cassandra well my husband was looking at her legs he said how can you wear that skirt with legs like tree trunks.
Her comment easily .

Morning Mel,

Ros rang the doctors this morning, first appointment for her doctor is Thursday, I rang and told to ring 8am tomorrow and should be able to get an appointment.!!!! Dosen't make sence to me. She sat all day yesterday, no conversation and little contact of any sort. Got her Roast beef Etc. about 5.30. I've seen a child eat more than her. By the time I had cleared up and had a shower and shave. it was 7.30, so I decided I needed a break from the situation, so went to the pub, only down there an hour. When I came in the phone rang, it was Jan from Rutland, wanting to speak to Ros. It turns out her and Conrad had been on SKYPE while I was out, and Ros got upset, over what Jan said about her getting out and getting exercise. Conrad said Jan had been a little unfair the way she had spoken to Ros, so rang back to apologise. There is no way she can exercise, she can hardly walk !!!!

I have dug another root of potato's this marning, and picked more beans for dinner tonight. Had my first courgette this morning also.

Quite pleasent here at the moment. Going to get my book out and sit in the garden again. Ros is in the shower then she will sit and watch TV, or knit.

Has anyone watched to Camelot serise on Saturday nights?

Am looking forward to the new series of Downton Abbey which I expect we shall get in the autumn.

Hope Jane gets back safely and is not too tired and enjoyed the wedding.

Love to Sheila, Ros, Frank, Fiona, Maureen, Shirl the two Ann's and David and Lizzy Dripping. David must be busy as we have'nt heard from him since his move

Hi Everyone Hope all is well. I have not been on the site for several days as busy with washing ironing etc after hubbies return.
Went to the theatre to see Pitman Painters on Friday evening and it was the best thing I have seen in ages. If you get the chance do go and see it. Its a period piece set in the 1930's and tells the story of some coal miners in Ashington who start painting and their collection still survives in a museum in Ashington today. Very thought provoking and brilliantly acted.
The weather here today has been glorious and we have just come indoors after a BBQ and drinks with our neighbours.
Sheila I heard about your explosion on the radio this morning. I hope you are not too shaken. What was going on? not another illegal still I hope.
Frank thanks for the e mails and I hope Ros looks carefully at having a wheelchair. I can remember when I needed to use one after my accident and I am sure I shall need one again as I find walking very painful these days.It will make her life much easier amnd she will be able to get around more freely especially if it is an electric one.
Jane I hope your wedding went well and it looks as though the weather has been kind. :-) :-)

Hi Mel I did get your fairy picture sorry about the delay it had gone into spam do not know why it does that. It was lovely.I was telling a lady today about your lovely fairy garden and showed her a picture.

Jane your picture with James and your husband proud mum is beautiful
he looks handsome and I hope he gets a good job and enjoys his life

I did see the Midland news and they said a man was in a critical condition today. We were shut out at least 45 minutes Frank which would have
been longer if that policeman outside our premises had his way. I was busting for the loo. Also we did not have tea out so had got some fish and chips and they were cold when we got indoors. I was not in a mood for eating. At least nobodies died so far .I am cheesed off and ready to sling my hook husband willing but he was not saying much.

Maureen and everybody thank you for your understanding I was not in a mood tonight to do my hour and was very glum most people understood.
Annx drunks are a pest to other people I once was sprayed all over with a bottle of beer just walking up the street by some drunk.
I remember grapenuts they came in a little box .I did not like them very much.
Masons was a popular shop Frank and Wimbushes and I remember
Timothy Whites and Taylors chemist. I remember going to get some butter from Masons and they had butter patting stuff to shape the butter nice and I once picked them up off the counter and was hitting a piece of paper with them and did I get a rollocking hygiene I was told was the most important thing in Masons shop and along comes some filthy girl and plays with the butter patty. I never did it again. My brother was amused me getting into trouble I remember. I used to stare in the window of Pramland a toyshop and prams and pick my toy for christmas never did get it.

It is funny I remember cleaning my mums kitchen out after my dad died
and found old wax paper from her fruit cake. string ,and cork screws
and meat hooks. loads of them. my mum was a hoarder.

Mel love your gardening methods it is very interesting. you should write a book on gardening. Or maybe fairies. My book is at a standstill since I turned the local library books into chattering library books people stopped going they could not concentrate on reading with all those chattering books. April had the idea of books that pinched you when you picked them up but left that out.

Oh Kim your brothers photoes made me feel so sad he was very handsome and you were real cute. he reminded me your brother of Ronnie Hylton the singer was he before your brothers time. I cannot remember. Old photoes make me sad I do not know why. I will keep them
for my collection.

Well my tea went down well and now I am going to shut myself in the lounge and watch for 50th time Young At Heart with Doris Day and Franks Sinatra Gig Young and the lovely Ethel Barrymore related to Drew.I love the
song Im ready willing and able. I used to bellow it out when young on my
old gramaphone and my big plastic LP.Nite Nite happy dreams

I have had a lovely weekend with my daughter. Didn't get to the park yesterday but today was wall to wall sunshine so we decided to go. Started off with breakfast out on the decking, so nice to share it with someone else. Went to the park this afternoon, will e.mail you photos, came home and had a lovely meal out on the decking again, it was lovely to have a one on one with her and talk about wedding plans for next year.

I love hollyhocks Mel, they seem to self seed around this garden but they do have that tendency to rust.

I wonder how long Rachel and family are here for, perhaps Jane can tell us tomorrow, I expect Ethan was grumpy earlier because of the flight. Hope Jane managed to do her 'bit' at the wedding without spilling anything ...lol

Liz I'm sure Polly will have a wonderful time in Canada, it's one of the safest countries to be in. I was born slap bang in the middle of that freezing cold winter in 1947, not that I knew anything about it.

Sheila, I was just thinking while reading your post, it's all going on at Sheila's when your next sentence said, don't say that ....lol You can't be held responsible for other peoples stupid behaviour, most of us are glad of an off licence to buy a bottle of wine.

What book are you reading now Frank?

To have thatch on the roof would be more money than the tiles Mandy!!

Just caught up with your posts while having a toasted teacake and a crumpet both dripping with butter and a cup of black coffee.

Sheila that is a terrible thing to have happen more or less on your doorstep. Poor you there are some awful people in this world and you seem to have a lot of them round you. Keep safe.

Sheila did you get my fairy pic I sent you?

Mandy have you looked to see about having a canvas roof, I think Janes one it like that.

Planted more lettuce in the tunnel and spread out my khol rabi (sp) ??
Did a lot of weeding and put in my two purple podded peas. Washed some of the sides of the tunnel down as they were very green so will now let more light in. Toms are rippening nicely now but only the sungold. Picked three more courgettes but had to come down for a leak.

Oh dear Sheila , those poor men!! what a terrible thing to happen .

More fund raising !! Ros certainly does her bit for the scouts Frank.

You used to be able to hire wheel chairs and the like from the Red Cross , if they still do that ,it might be worth trying them first ,then if Ros won't use the chair it would save buying one .

It's been a lovely warm afternoon , we sat out side and hubby thought he would measure up out side for a Pergola ,one that he could tile ,then we would have some nice shade ,and somewhere to sit under if it rains , he worked it out and it should cost about £700 !!!!! i think he said we would need three hundred tiles and they're a pound each ,so that's nearly half the cost !! we might see what else we could have on the roof , i said thatch !! and he raised his eyebrows LOL
