Mel, I have taken off all the side shoots. The ones I have removed are the leaves, not branches.
Maureen you have been unlucky with the weather. We have had sunshine most of the day with the odd black cloud and a spit of rain.
On our way over to Kettering. A 4 x 4 was towing a Burger bar thingy. He was going too fast and ended up jackknifing the whole thing. He ended up in the hedge on his side with the burger van still attached. Gas bottles and stuff all over the road. On our way back the police fire brigade and breakdown trucks were there. The road was down to one lane, the jam went back for about 2 miles. Just because of driving too fast. !!!!

Rain stopped and sun came out, took me nearly an hour to load up the car, but it's all at the tip now. That's a good job done as my old dad always said.
Hope Ann has got this sunshine too for her afternoon on the water, it's still quite windy though.
I'm off to have a soak in the bath now. BBL

Anne thanks for the pics pf wet Jersey!! A great one of you to pop into my Threadateers album.
Hope Ann has a nice time out today and it's not too choppy or cold on the water.
Frank what do you mean about your tom plants and breaking branches off them??? Do you mean the side shoots which you should take off anyway as the strength will go to those instead of to the fruit. Fruit also on these side branches will never be as good as if you grow them on a cordon.
Jane are your cumber plants in pots or in the ground. They don't like too much water but don't like to be dry either. Again you should grow them on a sort of cordon taking the side shoots out after the first fruit, two leaves past the fruit. Mine don't look too good this year as their leaves were a bit crinkled up to start with. Always feed cues with tom fertilizer as it produces a lot of flowers. High in potash, thats why.
We have been eating our new pots for weeks now but I did'nt plant them!! They were the ones I did'nt dig last year that grew this year in the same place :-0
I dug the rest up yesterday so I could plant another Squash. There are still a few on the end of one of the other beds which I had dug up that were green so I popped them in to see if anything came of them.
I have a problem with ants in the tunnel this year but did collect a load of eggs for the fish which they thought were lovely.

Oh Jane - I didn't phrase that too well. Fred West wasn't it and his Missus?? If I go missing tell them to look out the back in the reserve. Keith would never dig up the pavers, lol.
Mel that would be terrific. I'll get Keith to scan and send to you tomorrow. I can read some things, but not all. Thanks kindly.
Off to watch tv. Been on here too long doing my tree 11.17 PM EST
Take care all, Kim PS Good to have you back Anne, good luck at the doctor's.

Pat I have PM'd you.
Anne, good to see you back and thanks for the pics. What a shame about the weather. But as you say you still had a great time.Is that the Statue of the monkey who kept guard over the little boy when he fell into the ditch? I do hope you don't have a DVT.Good luck later at the Docs
Frank I hate Pumkin.I first tasted it in Canada.Pumpin Pie.Yuk! I tried buying some Pumpkin Seeds for our (competition),and couldn't get any>
Fiona.I'm glad your OH is ok after that shock.Barcelona is dreadful for pick pockets. There was one square in particular where out Hotel was,and you had to hang on to everything like grim death.I think most of the thieves were the Romanian Gypsies. We had information in the Hotel warning us of that problem. I was also propositioned in Barcelona by some old chap lol(chris had gone off to buy some tickets for something and I was just sitting on a Bench waiting for him. This man sat down next to me and tried to make conversation, but he didn't speak English. All he could say was "You very nice,we go coffee" whilst trying to stroke my arm!!.Dirty old B*****. I thought it was hilarious !!
I must go and buy some Bread.None of us have eaten bread for weeks ,but now James will be back I know the first place he will go will be the Bread Bin.
I thought it was going to pour just now ,but there seems to be a lot of blue sky appearing. You will be off shortly Ann.I can't wait to hear all about it.

Rain, rain and more rain. If it doesn't stop soon I'm just going to put a mac on and get all the old wood to the tip anyway. Don't want to leave it too late as when the kids come out of school there's always loads of traffic.
Can I see the photos Anne, never been to Jersey.
That was a nasty experience for OH Fiona, you're not safe anywhere these days, maybe the the man who brought his wallet back saw the thief running with it in his hand. Good of him to have a go, not sure I would be as brave.
Looks like the gods may be smiling down on us on Sunday, we are having a family get together for SIL's birthday, he's hoping to do a BBQ. I'd be happy if it would just stop raining, sunshine would be a bonus. It will be the first time Finley has met his new cousin. Harry is 4 weeks old now Pat.
Hope you enjoy your outing on the river Ann, look forward to some more spectacular photos.

Frank......I HAVE seen those waves!!! lol The boat carries about 100 people, so I hope it won't be too choppy. They can dump me on the bank and I'll walk if it is!!! lol We had our first spuds at the weekend too......very nice as you say.
I was just thinking Jane, 6 days without a shower!! I remember when I was little we had no shower and only a bath and hairwash once a week!!! A strip down wash had to do the rest of the time. I think it is only the daily shower and hairwash that gets me going these days.
Thank you for the pics Anne and I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves despite a bit of rain. I remember visiting what was the Gerald Durrell Zoo years ago. I used to love reading his books which were very funny. I think the good thing about Jersey is that there is plenty to see and do. Sorry to hear your ankle is swollen. maybe it was to do with the dishwasher. Hope you can get it sorted before your trip to America. Which part are you going to?

How awful for your OH Fiona. All the cycling he does has stood him in good stead though, being able to chase the chap. I wonder if the chap who gave him his wallet back is in cahoots with the robber? Maybe foreign credit cards were too much hassle, or maybe they cloned them and put them back. Best to cancel them anyway to be on the safe side.
OH has decided 3.00pm is early enough to set off.....goody!! He has just looked in the cupboard for a snack to sustain him and said he better not have sardines, in case the Ospreys smell the fish and swoop on him!! He is cock-a-hoop today as he had an e-mail saying the first clerking minutes he did were great!!
I've had little success with cucumbers before Jane. They seem to start getting cucumbers on, then they flop like you say. It's as if something gets them at the roots. My night scented stock seems to be growing well. I must move it nearer the back door where the scent can waft inside.
Mel, I bet you missed your early tunnel produce. It sounds as if things are growing quickly now though. I must try some yellow courgettes. This year I have grown a few purple french beans for the first time. The flowers are just about to open and are the colour of aubergines and the plants seem a bit taller than what I have grown before so they may keep the beans off the soil more. They are supposed to go green again when you boil them.

What a bummer Fiona, I think I would feel someone take my wallet from my back pocket. But it goes to show how light fingered these little BAST### are. If he could have got his hands on him. !!!!! Who knows what he might have done, I know I would end up in prison. Nothing worse could happen when you are abroad.
Jane, I have had three replacement packets of Cuecumber seeds this year. The first two didn't show one plant. The last one I had two plants from. Not looking very stong, but I keep feeding them. I have even had a refund for the third packet. The same happened with courgettes.??? It's OK them replacing them but it puts everything back.
Ann, I hope you won't be sea sick out on that water. Have you seen the waves on there when the wind blows. ONLY JOKING. Hope you have a pleasent evening, and see al the wildlife. Keep your like jacket on :-D :-D :-D We never got round to doing our PUMKIN growing did we ???? I have never tasted it, I imagine it would be very watery.
Mel, We have had to chop a lot of branches off the tomato plants. They are like small trees this year. Have completely taken over the greenhouse down one side. Peppers, Cuecumbers, and courgettes doing ok. Broard beand now about 3ft high with loads of flowers. We had our first bag of potatoes at the weekend. Took them to Conrads for Sunday Dinner. Everyone loved them. Perhaps have another this weekend.
Ros is out having her nails done, then we are off to the Hospital for her MRSA test, before her injections on the 1st July. We will go to Conrads the day before, and Jan will take her and bring her back. We will stay there for the weekend, as she won't be able to walk for 24/48 hours after. Her leg will be like JELLY.
Speak to you all soon.

Hi Everyone. Well home again after a rather damp weekend in Jersey. It managed to rain for part of every day but we still had a super time visiting the German hospital Durrell wildlife centre and the St helier museum. We had to spend more time indoors than we would have liked but we enjoyed lots of good food and wine. Have sent some photos but am sure I am missing some people on my list so if you have not received anything please let me know. There seems to be lots of news on ther posts but I have not had the chance to catch up with everything as yet but thanks to everyone for the photos and jokes. I have just sent Ladies witrh typewriters to OH and can hear him laughing away in the office. I am going to visit the Dr later as I have a very swollen foot and ankle today and my leg is painful from ther knee down. Lets hope its not a DVT but I am wondering!! I will be very upset if it is as we fly to America in a few weeks. I did bang my ankle on the dishwasher door a few weeks ago and hope it may have upset things. In the meantime I am sitting with my leg up like a good girl as appointment not until 4pm. Must go and make lunch now. :-) :-)

Morning All So tired this morning, not going to meet friends for coffee, will just take it easy, read my book for a while last night, then managed to settle down and started to dose, then about 11.30 the phone rings :-0 it was OH is Barcelona telling me to ring the bank to cancel his credit cards, as he had just been robbed in the street and they had taken his wallet, while he was on the phone he was running after the young man who had stolen his wallet, but couldn't catch him. then another fella comes up to OH and gives him his wallet back with all his cards intact, only cash had been taken, OH been to see the police but they said they will deal with the situation later today, OH will let me know how he gets on when he phones tonight, he is ok, It's a strange situation OH was standing in a taxi rank at the time and this fella was standing behind him then 2 seconds later he starts running and OH relises his wallet was gone. but the strange thing is like i said , another man comes and gives OH his wallet back :-S :-S
anyway I hope you all have a good day, wet here again BBL

Morning All,
Breezy and dull here. Now I am thinking what to wear for this evenings boat trip. I bet it will be windy, but the boat is covered, so maybe just draughty? I need to have a rummage through my things......I can't bear to be TOO HOT!! Camera's charged up ready. There is a talk and refreshments at 4.30pm, then we have the trip at 6.00pm. OH is talking about leaving at 2.00pm this afternoon......I would go an hour later if it was me as I hate hanging around.....think I will take a magazine to read!! lol He has gone for a hospital appointment at the balance clinic just now.......think they will sign him off this time.
Hope everyone is feeling refreshed this morning and that Frank hasn't needed his white friend and that Mel is feeling a bit better. Will pop in the garden now and water those pots I planted up yesterday. I think a few adjustments are needed as being a bit taller, one was listing a bit yesterday.
We are still waiting for the tree stumps on the front to be cut down, but I might have to get the pruners out.........the shoot sprouting on the side of one looks decidedly rude now!!!!!

Morning All,
Pat you must have really had enough by now and I don't know how you are coping with it.
It has been raining here this morning and they say it will be wet on and off all day so it may be ironing for me today.
Things are starting to happen in the tunnel now but the two yellow courgettes I bought in Mo**isons have turned out to be green which is a real bum as I like the yellow ones best. I usually only have one green one but this year I now have three :-S
Beans are flowering but have'nt set any yet but the toms are growing like weeds!! Spinach up and beetroot but the three rows of spring onions are very sparce so I think I may start again and hoe them all off. I have even sowed peas in there. I have two squash plants a pumkin bought in Morr*sons which is not doing well either, three peppers, doing very well and a chilli plant. Oh and another pumkin which was old seed and I just bunged in about six seeds and the one that germinated came up in the middle of the hole in the black polythene just where I would have planted a plant :-D Also have a butternut squash, lettuce, parsley and chard in there.
Fiona I hope they can do something for the reflux after the six weeks. It must seem like it is going on forever :-\
Kim if you scan and send me the death cert I will try and read it for you as I am quite good at the old writing. I had to type out lab. reports when I worked for the PDSA and the man who wrote them had awful writing. Even his secretary used to come and ask me what a word was sometimes and she had worked for him for years.
Maureen I bet you are really pleased with yourself taking down the old shed.
OH is working on one of his big mowers, Clarissa, he has just received a couple of washers through the post that he needs for her. He has been on this project for about three days now.

Our neighbours house has been completed gutted.
WE did have a go at him after the ist drying ....because the walls adjoining our 2 wet walls his side hadnt been stripped properly...He still had his kitchen units on the walls....and Yes we did think we were drawing the water though...So he got onto his insurers...

Hello all,
It is sunny and cold. I found a place in the sun to read the paper under the patio, but soon headed back inside with the pusscats and my son, who is on a break from TAFE. He is currently in the garage jamming away with the guitar - hope he's not bothering the neighbours!!!
OH moved a whole lot of timber and is now cleaning the pavers with chlorine, so that will definitely keep me inside.
Jane I hope Hannah has a blast at Glastonbury and the weather stays good. Sorry about that email. It was a large one, but so interesting.
Fiona, my dad lived on Gavis##n and Myl##ta. So did my brother. Bill had several operations with the last one being in 2001 and that did the trick. He seems to drink herbal teas, but loves his coffees too. He eats very well, they have a very good diet which puts mine to shame. I love chocolate and all the things I'm not supposed to have. I hope you get relief very soon and they sort the white count. It is a horrible condition to suffer with.
Pat so long without a kitchen!!! I hope you hear from these tradesmen very soon and they get the problem fixed for you.
I received the death certificate for my relative today. It came from the Queensland registry. I can't read most of it, but at least I now have an answer. Another loose end tied up :-) :-)
Have a good day - some sort of fish for dinner tonight. Jane I haven't had Haddock since I was little. I miss my mother's cooking, apart from the offal, although I liked crumbed brains.
Bye for now, it is 4.40 pm and nearly time for the news. Have a good day all.
Cheers, Kim

Wel I hope any threat of thunderstorms blow over for tomorrow!! I just googled and found that there is no safe place from lightning on the water in a thunderstorm. I wonder if we will still sail?? If it looks threatening I may ring them at Rutland Water tomorrow.
Hope Hannah has a good time Jane........it will certainly be an EXPERIENCE!!
