Good morning

I didn’t sleep well last night so I’m a bit headachy this morning but otherwise OK. My back just aches and twinges a bit now but is much better. No sun this morning but there’s no frost or fog either so it must be getting a bit warmer.

I don’t have any plans today apart from a Tesco delivery this afternoon. Phone just pinged and it was Tesco saying they are coming between 5 and 6. I usually book a 4 hour slot between 2 and 6 pm and they narrow it down to 1 hour early on the day. Normally they put my delivery in earlier which I prefer but it is pot luck so 5-6 pm is fine.

Hope you all have a more interesting day than me. Have a good one whatever you’re doing.

Yes I think thats a good idea. I was going to ring today but forgot untill it was too late to ring him. He'll only say its been too wet and icy to take the felt off. I also think he has left it so he can charge me for a couple of new boards at ÂŁ85 a time. My BIL get those for ÂŁ43 each. He's a roofer in Surrey so he knows the price of those.

I have done some painting today and a bit of casting. When I have varnished them I will take some pics and send them.

Car started OK after lunch so we went out for a drive. OH said about 45 minutes would get it all charged up but we stayed out for 2 hours, driving round places that we hadn’t been through for years. It was really enjoyable as there was no pressure to get anywhere at a specific time.

Batteries can be a problem. Most of our journeys now are just short trips round town so the battery doesn’t get charged up the way it used to. We’ll have to make sure the car gets a good run every now and then.

It’s good that your son can help you with getting the car checked and with the logs Mandy. In our old house we used to have logs delivered and it was bloomin’ hard work moving them to the log store and stacking them.

As others have suggested Mel, it might be worth giving the roofer a call. A polite reminder that you’re still waiting might chivvy him up a bit.

Oh no Vera not you having battery trouble too ,hope OH managed to get it started thats the trouble this time of ths year with all the extra things you use when driving blower, lights etc they all drain the battery and on short runs its not putting much charge into the battery.
Our tyre has stayed up but I'm not keen on driving it until its been checked just in case it goes down again ,I know we have break down cover but it's the waiting about for them to come and I don't want it happening if I'm driving in town, son said he would take the car one day this week and get it checked for us ,Colin doesn't drive now as his reactions are not what they use to be although he still keeps his licence up just in case
We have a load of wood coming on Friday it was booked for Thursday but son has safety checks to do at school so we had to ring and change the day as he wheels it all round for us ,Jake will help too.

I'd give the roofer a ring Mel it might have slipped his mind .

AnninGlos Report 23 Jan 2023 15:05

Have you contacted the roofer again Mel to ask why he has not been to do the job?

One thing about not having a car, I don't have the problems with the battery that I used to have every winter because it was not driven far enough.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 Jan 2023 12:20

So thats two of us with cars that won't start! :-| My new battery should come tomorrow and I keep thinking I will go here or there and then remember I can't.

Really sunny here and 6 degrees. I just wish the roofers would come and do the roof before it starts raining again.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 23 Jan 2023 11:15

Now the car won’t start. Grrr :- OH has attached our old charger to the battery in the hope of getting enough charge to get the car going, then we’ll have to give it a good run. I’m glad he wanted to take some bottles to the bottle bank and went to start the car, otherwise we wouldn’t have discovered it till Wednesday when we are supposed to be going to Southend to deliver some pressies that came back from Yorkshire with us.

EDIT. My emoticons don’t seem to be working. There was supposed to be a frowning face after Grrr :-|. Well, that one worked! I think it is going to be one of those days.

Morning all

It was a bitter cold night and there’s a thick frost again. Tablet is saying -3 but it is sunny at the moment.

I’ve got a load of washing in and I need to update my Tesco order that’s coming tomorrow but I haven’t any other plans for the day.

Pleased you seem to have got your appetite back Vera. Hope you enjoyed it.
No ice/frost on the road or pavement today so friend made it safely over to me. She doesn't have anything on her wrist now but her hand is still very swollen and her wrist still hurts a lot. she is OK though. I have just walked down to the charity lady with the surplus too big Christmas decorations. (I did ask if they wanted them and she said yes she did.
3 degrees out there but my hands were very cold and I was glad to get back inside.

According to the iPad the temperature is 0 degrees, the computer says it is 2 and my phone says 3! Which do I believe, if any? The computer is some sort of Microsoft widget that I have never installed and it is never quite sure of my location so that might well be a bit wrong.. The phone is not always very accurate. The iPad has the BBC weather app which is usually fairly good but the fog has cleared, the sun is out and it feels as though it ought to be a bit more than 0 degrees.

It doesn't matter - I'm as warm as I feel - but I'm puzzled as to why they should differ so much.

Pork is cooking, roast pots and parsnips are about to go in the oven, apple sauce for today and to go in the freezer is made. When the pork comes out to rest an apple crumble will go in. Carrots and broccoli will do quickly in the microwave. Dinner about 2 pm and I'm looking forward to it today.

I think I'll start with a pre-dinner glass of wine. A girl's got to get her priorities right ;-)

Morning all,

Very foggy and frosty here first thing but the fog has now lifted and I can see blue blue sky and lovely sunshine.

Anng I hope its not to slippery for your friend to walk over to yours with a broken arm ,I have to admit since I broke my wrists it does make you weary when you walk out ,I walk with my head down now looking at the pavements in case there's a dip and I wring my ankle again .

I've just had a good tidy with all my containers with my craft bits in ,I'm fed up with having to hunt for things so I think I've sorted them in some sort of order .

SuffolkVera

Morning all

You sent your fog to us AnnG. It’s a white world here with heavy frost and freezing fog. It’s -2 and might reach 0 degrees in the middle of the day before going down to -7 again tonight. Roll on spring.

Apart from cooking a roast dinner I have no idea what I am going to do today but I expect I’ll find something to keep myself busy.

AnninGlos Report 22 Jan 2023 08:59

good morning all. -2 here at the moment there was a frost but I don't think as hard as yesterday, no fog this morning thank goodness, it lasted the whole day yesterday and was very depressing to look out at. Friend ( neighbour across the road)coming for coffee/tea this morning. 8 weeks ago she fell and broke her arm, still not healed so she is a bit fed up.

Morning all,

Not as sunny here as it has been over the last couple of days and still cold and also frost but not as hard as it has been again.

Pc says 4 degrees this morning and cloudy so thats something to look forward to.

I have some bits on ebay which finishes today so I better go and have a look.

Hope you all slept well or well enough to get through the day.

It is good that you are eating well Mel so often people on their own don’t. Having said that tonight I had fish cakes and beans. Fish cakes cooked in the air frier.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jan 2023 17:08

I usually cube mine and cook it and mash it and add a bit of butter and pepper or some clotted cream if I have it. Thats the Devon way. Once it cold I put it in small freezer pots or yoghurt pots cover it with foil and feeze it in portions. I have a freezer full of indivual dinners at the mo. There's chicken casserole, veg soup, mince in gravy and cauli cheese, tender stem broccoli, roast pots and yorkshire puds, plus two more portions of liver and a nice piece of rump steak which would do two days. O and a sheep sh*t pie with no potato on top yet and one more bubble and squeak, I'm having that other one with tonights stew and a dough boy.

I suppose it is trial and error depending on the size of your swede ,the one I saw was a lady on fb ,I would say it was a medium sized swede she had but she did say you need to peirce it all over and cook in microwave for twelve minutes .
