Good afternoon all.
Vera you had some nice gifts the bird Bath sounds lovely and all those plants, hopefully some will go in pots ok.
Mandy, good the teeth behaved over Christmas.
We went to the nice store in Cockermouth. Had coffee and a relaxing chat. They had a 20% off sale on many things as well as Christmas decs. I did get two of those for my new little tree. But the best bit was I got a couple of things I was meaning to buy after Christmas and both were discounted in the sale. One was a lap tray, the one I have is getting past it and the other thing was a heavy based frying pan that will also go under a grill or in the oven. My heavy pan is getting dangerous as the handle is loose and can’t be tightened. The new one is slightly smaller but as there is only me, that doesn’t matter.. Back home reading now. :-)

Lovely to hear from Will today and I enjoyed the poem thank you .
Vera that was a lovely present your going to get every two months but thats a lot of plants to find a home for it will be interesting yo see what arrives . Yes thank you Son and Jake were both fine over Christmas with their teeth I think they started on the antibiotics at the right time and they both have the teeth out in the new year .
Thanks Mel your Christmas card arrived today a pretty glittery one :-D hope your on the mend with your cold . I nipped up to boots to get Colin some more cough medicine and I also went into Wilkinsons to have a look and see what Christmas bits they were selling off ,I got some little ribbons which I thought might do for the Christmas crackers I'm going to make for next year ,the crackers these days have rubbish bits in them so I'm going to make my own .
Oh dear Anng Christmas pud can lay a bit heavy but at least you enjoyed it at the time .
I'm now going to start stitching up the owl I've been knitting and may start the knitting on the next one which I think will be the Hare .

Morning All,
So lovely to here from our Will first thing this morning. Hi Will love to Carmel. <3 <3 and a Happy New Year to you also. Loved the poem.
Dull dreary and raining here so no change there then I do hope we may see a little sun today at some point.
Still have the cold or whatever it is.
Hope you all slept well or had enough to keep you going anyway.

Good day everyone, don't be shocked by this blast from the past. As it's nearly New Year and I have been absent for some time due to my care duties for my wife and other things. I thought I'd log in and tell you all that you have not been forgotten by me for all your kindnesses. Some of you I know keep up with me on Facebook which I have been reminded of yesterday. I post my poems on there and yesterday, Shirley Hurt enquired if I was 'OUR Will from GR'. That touched me and I was so pleased that I was still considered part of the group and so well remembered. Thank you Shirley, thank you all.
I started writing my poems when it was lockdown and so far I've written over 175, self published two booklets of my illustrated poems, been on local radio and have a nick name here as 'The Bard of Bedworth', plus I seem to have a local fan club. I just enjoy writing them, it keeps me focused and frees my mind of a lot of worries plus I'm so pleased that folk far and wide (on Facebook) enjoy them. Our local volunteer organisation, North Warwickshire CAVA have adopted me as their official poet and for the past two years have been asked to do a special poem to mark the local volunteers which is read out at the annual awards ceremony. This year, with no covid about, I was invited along as a guest of honour.
Some of poems are about my life and when I was younger, some just on anything or even about my family.
Enough about me, I hope you are all doing well, I should really look in more often but Caring is not so easy on one's time. This group has been so good to me in the past and I still keep friends via Facebook. I don't know what we would have done without GR and social media during lockdown, that and some wonderful neighbours that we have. The years roll on, Carmel will be 91 in February and I will be 88 come July. Luckily, my health is not too bad now although I had some rough patches last year and ended up with a pacemaker and a hernia repair. Now I just complain about the arthritis in my bent fingers, so if I've made any mistakes please forgive me. As it's nearly New Year, I will wish you all the very best and see if I can post my latest poem, sorry but it won't be the illustrated one. You would need to go to my Facebook site (Will Roe's Rhyme and Reason to see that)
A NEW YEARS WISH
The bells ring out loud To proclaim a New Year We all raise our glasses And give a big cheer
We all hug each other Wish everyone the best For the Old Year is over And best put to rest
We’ll forget the hard times When things weren't so bright But now that’s all behind us And so fades out of sight
We’ll remember the good days And bear them in mind Carried forward in memory Of the days that were kind
They’ll be thinking of loved ones Those that cannot be there Include them in a toast As their memories we share
We look forward with hope To the twelve months ahead And look to the good days When our troubles are shed
We’ll toast to good health And sing Auld Lang Syne As hands grasp hands And we shake them in time
A New Year lies ahead Diary pages all bare A new calendar starts New hope for us there
It’s just at that moment When a new number appears That we hope it’s a good one With an absence of fears
Bless you all - Will

It’s been a very wet, windy day, though not too cold.
Did you sell the lathe, Mel? I hope your cold is getting better. I suppose you are sure it’s just a cold, and not Covid? I know Covid is doing the rounds here again and that often seems just like a cold. Whatever it is I hope you are recovering now. We are half expecting to go down with colds ourselves as we were shut in a car with our daughter for the drive home and she was sneezing and coughing. She has tested and the test was negative, so with luck it is just a cold she has.
Talking of Covid, I had a call this morning from our friends M & V to say they have both got it now. They are both a bit vulnerable so it is a little bit of a worry. V has serious heart problems and, amongst other things, M has severe arthritis which is kept under control with self-administered injections. However they depress her immune system. She was told to notify the hospital if she got Covid which she did and they said to stop the injections immediately and they are sending by taxi 5 tablets for her to take over the next 5 days. People moan but we really can’t fault the care we get from our doctors and the hospital. I’ve been out to do a bit of shopping for them this afternoon. I put it on the doorstep, rang the doorbell and retreated to the road. M watched from the window till I was right on the road and then came and picked it up, so there was no contact between us. How about your son and Jake, Mandy? Did their teeth cause them any problems over Christmas? I hope you have rested today and fell less tired and swimmy now.
We had a very enjoyable evening with our neighbours yesterday. It’s a nice little group and we all get on well so we put the world to rights over mulled wine and nibbles.
We had a wonderful Christmas and were thoroughly spoilt. The best part was being able to see both my children and their partners, all 5 of my grandchildren, and both my step-grandchildren with their partners. Of course, there was an abundance of food and drink but no-one went over the top. The main thing was being together and there being lots of laughter.
I had some lovely presents – 2 warm tunic style tops with high necks and long sleeves, smellies, chocs & biscuits, Amazon voucher, some bits and bobs for the garden and two other lovely garden presents. I haven’t yet had a chance to unpack and assemble the one from son and dil but it is a bird bath with solar lighting and I think it said something else on the box but I can’t remember what. We’ll have a look at that this weekend. From daughter and her partner we had a subscription to a flower place which says that every 2 months for a year they will deliver 8 perennial plants. We have no idea what will come or when the deliveries will start, or where on earth we will find space in our very little garden, but isn’t that a lovely present?
I’ve done washing but not much else since we got back so tomorrow it’s down to earth with a bump as I shall have to do some housework – ugh! Right now I had better go and prepare tonight’s meal and get some meat out of the freezer for the next couple of days. Enjoy what’s left of the day and sleep well tonight everyone.

O and the good thing is that the radiator in the kitchen is now working at full capasity hot all round and not just on the ends and top. I thought it felt warmer in here this morning. The bad news is that the lounge is leaking in front and behind the fireplace now. Goodness knows when he will be able to come amnd do the roof for me with all this rain we are having.

The man dos'nt think the lathe will suit his son but he knows a lady who does turning and she has a big barn workshop so she may be interested in it. He told me how much it was worth and its a lot more than I thought.
This afternoon Em's mum popped round and brought me a big pot of soup but she did'nt come in as I told her I was full of cold so we did'nt get our nice klong chat and COT. Two more Christmas cards arrived just before Val came and one was from our Annx and one from my cousin in Bideford. Still not got aunty Joys card or one from her daught Ann.
Then I had a message on my email to say a chap who lives around the corner wanted to know if I was going to sell the digger !!! so now I have to get a chap down to tell me how much its worth. It goes with the big trailer it came on. So I have people coming and going to find out what things they would be interested in like flies round a honey pot. All I have managed to do today is a bit of dusting and hoovering of the kitchen and dinning area and now I am ready for a COT and a sit down.

Good afternoon everyone
We got home about 5 yesterday. It was a much better journey than going. We made 1 stop as daughter’s partner was driving but he is insulin dependent and needed to inject.
I’m glad you all seem to have enjoyed your Christmas but sorry you are not feeling good Mel. I hope you are starting to feel better now.
We’ve been busy today and now I have to get us an early dinner as all the neighbours are invited next door for post Christmas drinks and nibbles so I’ll try and come on tomorrow and write more.

Afternoon all,
We had a good Christmas day son and family went home about three o'clock as they had dil's parents coming in the late afternoon, then yesterday son and family stayed all day so we've had a busy time ,nipped out for some milk this morning and dropped the rest of the turkey crown and beef joint round to sons for them to finish off it was nice to get some fresh air .
Mel I hope your cold symptoms soon ease for you ,Colin has had a cold and is still coughing ,he likes those old Fisherman friend for his throat ,I thought i might be getting it and I took some paracetamol and seemed to have nipped it in the bud.
Quiet afternoon for us today just going to watch some things we recorded .

Good morning Mel, sorry you still feel rough. Hopefully it will clear in a couple of days. Just stay in the warm and make sure you drink plenty. Have you got any lesions? If not, maybe honey and lemon, and rub Vick on the throat when you go to bed.
Drizzly here but not so cold.
