Good morning

Yet again there is no sign of rain locally nor any forecast. We seem to be in our own little micro climate here. It was a really hot muggy night and I eventually slept for a couple of hours sitting up which was marginally cooler than lying down.

I hope your gravel laying is well under way now AnnG. It will look great when it is all finished and you have some plants on it.

Hope the MOT goes well and you don't have too much to pay out Mel. Ours goes in for its annual service and MOT this month as well and each time I wonder whether its going to need any major repair. She seems to be running fine but the old girl's 14 now so things could start to go wrong.

Everything the plumber has done is fine but it has brought to light another slight leak that OH thinks might have been partially to blame for the original problem. Yesterday the plumber told OH to keep an eye on things and if he saw any further "weeping" to let him know by 8 am this morning, which OH did. So he is coming back again tomorrow. Will it ever end? The bill we have been sent is extremely reasonable but if we keep finding things the company might add extra charges.

I've done the ironing but nothing else yet and, as we are out to lunch again today, I'd better get a wriggle on. Might bbl

Good luck with the MOT Mel, an expensive time no doubt.

I imagine you need a car if you are way out with no bus routes near.

Morning all,

Dull and dreay here this morning and it was raining last night before I went to bed and again when I got up for the loo. Thinkj it will last all day.

Car goes in this morning for MOT and its going to cost me this time. The dear old girl has a rattle on the stering and a squeak on the brakes and it generally tired I think. She has been a good old car and you get attached to them don't you? We always feel strange when she goes in as we don't have another working car so you feel isolated sort of. No F & C's tonight as I shan't be able to pick it up.

Thats all for today so I think I may do the bathrooms today and some ironing.

Good morning all. I was up at 0630 knowing I had Andy coming to do the gravel. Good job I was, he was due at 0830. At 0745 a large lorry arrived to drop off the gravel. and at 0800 Andy was here. He has now gone off to get the wood for the frame. Poor man the heat is awful for him with the humidity. And he is not getting much sleep as his four year old is poorly with a chest infection and wakes them up coughing.

Thank you all for your wishes. We've had a sloppy day not doing anything much at all. I potted three plants on, two begonias from last year and a cutting of my geranium I bought in Morrisons three years ago. Fed the birds and chickens and did a bake on some poly clay.

Oh said I could have £100 for clothes or something I wanted and I wanted a set of three draws to keep craft stuff in but do you think we could find something the right size.

Made sadad tonight and cooked a load of plums and thats all I have done today. Its been very hot and sticky here and still is. O I did pick another 9 oz blueberries and froze those.

Feel all clammy now so I think a shower is in order before bed.

I didn't know you could still get Angel Delight Ann. I shall have to look out for that. I wonder if Dream Topping is still available. Years ago I used to make a rather nice chocolate mousse that used a can of custard and a packet of Dream Topping.

We had a very nice afternoon at the Ladies Club afternoon tea. The hostess had managed to borrow several tables with parasols which kept off the worst of the sun and there was quite a strong breeze so it didn't feel too hot. We were greeted with a glass of Pimms and there were regular top-ups though I just had one small glass as I was driving. Then it was scones, jam and cream and pots of tea with lots of chat and laughter. The time passed very quickly.

We got back about 5.30 pm and the plumber was just leaving, having come back to make a final adjustment (we hope final) to a connection. We weren't expecting him till Thursday but he had finished the previous job early..

While I was out OH did some tidying up in the garden and proudly showed me some plants where he had noticed fresh growth underneath so had cut away all the scorched, dying growth on top. It does look better at the moment but I hadn't got the heart to tell him that it would have been better to leave them alone so that all the grotty stuff could protect the fresh growth. Now that's exposed it will probably get scorched as well.

It's going to be a hot, sticky night again. At the moment it is 24 degrees but isn't supposed to drop below 18 all night so I guess I won't get much sleep again. We are out to lunch again tomorrow. We seem to have gone from never going out because of Covid to never being in. We're still being a little bit careful and try to pick places that are unlikely to get crowded and to meet outside when possible.

I'm getting a bit tired now and still have a couple of bills to pay and a couple of emails to write so I'll say goodnight and hope you all sleep well.

Annx Report 2 Aug 2022 20:11

Even blacker clouds now and still breezy so I hope we get some proper rain before morning.

An early start for the factory shop tomorrow. OH has had some good short sleeve shirts from there and seems to be short of them since he had a clearout in spring. There is a jeweller nearby so he's going to get a new battery put in his watch if he can. Then we will call in a garden centre where we have had a brekkie before on the way back. I'm hoping it won't be very busy and if it is we won't stop. We need some ant killer.

Off to bed and I hope we all sleep well. I ended up not really doing anything this afternoon!. :-)

Annx Report 2 Aug 2022 16:04

Afternoon All,

I was hot in the night even with just a sheet over me. We'd had a little rain overnight, but it had hardly wet the ground and black clouds this morning just carried on and now it's white sky and blue clouds. PC says 25 and there's a breeze but it's a warm one so we both feel the same as everyone else with our strength well and truly sapped!

The window cleaner came and was early so that was good and the garden bin is empty again so we have been pulling up the dying nasturtiums and cutting up the palm we chopped down again on the friont to start filling it again. The cobra beans will be next as they are worse for wear as are the cues now. OH has written more notes up and is reading his papers now and I got lunch and hoovered the kitchen, hall, lounge rugs and main bedroom. That's enough HW for today! I did some angel delight with scoops of icecream yesterday and they went down well so I may do a different flavour today. :-)

After sorting OH an ISA yesterday, he's given me more of his matured finances to sort out! He just isn't very organised with these mundane things and loves it when I volunteer to do them for him.

Happy Anniversary Mel and I hope you enjoy many more! :-D It was 32 years yesterday since we became a couple. :-) Has your OH managed to finish the mowing?

The black clouds are back and some very fine dampness in the air so maybe there will be rain yet.

I hope you are enjoying your afternoon Vera and it's a good idea to be well prepared with your umbrella.

Afternoon all,

<3 <3 Happy Silver Anniversary Mel and Mr Mel <3 <3
Hope your both enjoying your day .

Really muggy here today and I feel tired out as I seemed to be awake every couple of hours last night my left knee was very fidgety .
I've stripped the bed and that's blowing on the line ,I've been to town for a few bits and dropped Colins blood pressure readings into the doctors ,picked up our tablets from boots ,only one lot of my tablets not in but she's going to ring when they can get them .

We have two of those old Lasts in the shed, they look quire rusty and I did say to Colin shall we paint them but it will make the look to new and we like the old look of them .

Picked some more toms and nine more cucumbers ,runners still very poor but I can see a few red flowers coming at the top .

Me neither with the energy Vera, I have done nothing except tie up a couple of tomato plants and fill one of the bird feeders.

Happy silver anniversary Mel and Mr Mel. Wishing you many more happy years <3

It’s 23 degrees here now, cloudy with a slight breeze and very muggy. The BBC weather app is telling me that when I’m at the Ladies Club garden tea it will be 29 but feel like 33. Too hot for me. I’d like to back out but I’ve promised to take my neighbour who doesn’t drive so I will have to go.

I’ve showered and washed my hair but that’s all I’ve done this morning. I ought to do some h/w but, as AnnG says, the heat and humidity sap your energy and I don’t think I had much to start with ;-)

Morning Anng and all,

Our 25 years anniversary today and I would'nt change a thing.

20 degrees here and cloudy and it feels very hot. I have two subs today on the shopping one is my cherries they have sent one asda cherries instead of a extra special cherries as we ordered 2 so I should have one good big ones and one just ordinary one but we had those last week and they were fine. and the other one is smooth orange juice instead of the one with bits in and thats ok too.

I think the heat saps your energy Anng so just do what you cna when you cna and have a little rest inbetween.

Good morning all. 21 degrees here and only 0945. Very windy but some sun too.

Nothing planned for today. I have already been out pottering in the garden might do a bit more but this heat saps your energy.

Still hot indoors here. Era. Maybe I should go out ant try the hose again to cool down.

Yes sweet dreams and hopd you can sleep well.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 1 Aug 2022 21:33

Your hosepipe story made me laugh as well AnnG. I expect it felt quite refreshing in this muggy heat ;-)

No Mel, not ham sandwiches. OH tends to fill the bread with pate and pickle - Brussels pate with garlic for me, Ardennes or Farmhouse Pate for him. He usually puts something like rocket in mine as well and gives himself a couple of lettuce leaves, a chunk of cucumber and a couple of little tomatoes to eat with his fingers. Oh, and a chunk of cheese. He's a creature of habit! Sometimes I'll tell him some ham or corned beef needs using up just to have a change and sometimes I'll suggest a cheese and ham pasty or even some crumpets. Now and then I make soup. But left to himself it will be pate.

Tesco were half an hour early and, of course, OH wasn't there but the driver was very helpful and saved me having to do a lot of bending. OH came in just as the van was driving away. Even though I am now only wiping stuff we need immediately it still seemed to take me ages to get everything sorted and put away.

I went out to the garden at 8 o'clock when it was a bit cooler and did some deadheading and it was quite pleasant out there but it is still very hot indoors so it could be another restless night. The computer is telling me that it is 20 degrees and the rain is stopping soon. What rain?

Sleep well, sweet dreams, see you all tomorrow.
