Morning all,

Phew 33 degrees here now ,we decided to take the green rubbish to the tip so we went nice and early , I was watching the Yorkshire farm programme and she was saying how their bales hay had got on fire because it was a little wet and then with the heat it caught fire ,didn't want our grass cutting to go up as we put them in the tubs in the little woodshed and with the heat uou never know so glad that's done.

Mel how are the girls doing in the heat are they still giving you lots of eggs .

Ann you were up nice and early best time of the day really ,I bet the squirrel was as surprised as you lol.

I put some natural yogurt in Max's Kongs this morning they have gone in the freezer for later ,at the moment he's laying by my feet .

33 degrees here now and the app is telling me that it feels like 35. I’ve just got back from the chiropodist. Going was fine as the car is garaged so wasn’t too hot and the air con cooled it right down. The problem is that there is no shade at all in the car park. When I got back to the car after half an hour the gauge was showing 42 degrees and it was like an oven. By the time I had driven the couple of miles home it was showing 33 and OH put the car in the garage immediately. Barring an emergency we won’t be going out again till Wednesday.

You got a lot done early this morning Ann. You put me to shame as I have done nothing much and I don’t think I’ll be doing anything for the rest of the day. I might make a couple of phone calls before lunch. Meals will be light anyway for the next day or two.

Stay cool, stay hydrated and enjoy having a good excuse to do nothing :-D

It's 29 degrees here now so rising quickly!

I must add more antihistamines to my next food order. It's very quiet here now as everyone seems to be staying inside, little noise from traffic and no-one in their gardens that I can hear. Even the noisy dog is inside.

Morning All,

We both slept well and were up at 6.30am and OH opened the doors and patio door and windows as it was cooler outside. He went back to bed and I decided to dust the bedrooms and the rest of the lounge then hoovered the rugs in there, disinfected the kitchen sink, washed my painting palettes and was startled by a young squirrel that was on the patio looking through the patio door at me! He jumped on the table outside and onto the fence and scampered off. OH has just emerged again and moved 3 pots to shadier positions. There are more that need moving, but I was thinking of his hernia as he has a dentist check up this afternoon. That's me done with HW today. I am going to look at requesting passports online and sort out which magazines I want to keep. I had been thinking of finishing off some beading and Mandy saying she may do some has reminded me, so I might do that or some painting.

Mel I will just ask for a refund for some like the smoked Haddock and squashed bread. The drivers never hang about long enough to be able to hand anything back anyway, so I will just ask for a refund and keep what they have sent. They always refund without a quibble and never ask for it back. I asked for the lemonade and the 7UP packs of cans that are low calorie, but they sent the ordinary ones, but we'll keep those.

It's 22 degrees now, so I will just give the small pots some exttra water, then sit down.

Did you send any of your subs back Ann? I sent two back this week but I don't like A
sda's salad cream so will be ordering that again this week as it must be heinz for me and the less fat one.

Just watered the plants in the shed and its really hot in there. We had a nice breeze earlier we had the frnt door open and the bedroom window and the back door open as the kitchen was hot and in the hall it was nice and cool. Its shut now as the breeze has dropped.

Its still 25 degrees here and it did go up to 29 thius afternoon so not mch of a drop in the temp.

Annx Report 17 Jul 2022 18:40

Yes we do lose the will if a post disappears Mandy! So Lewis will be taking his gifts this week then. Fancy you having a disturbed night too with the helicopter searching. We occasionally get the police one as it is kept down the road and is handy for the M1. They do kick up a racket though if they are overhead and hovering. We are wondering what will happen tonight!! I was thinking that as we need to move our pots for the jet washing, we aught to move them now where it is shady as some of my plants have scorched already. I've never needed to shade the greenhouse in the past, but the tomato tips have burnt this year. My runner beans are not enough for a boiling yet, but the Cobra beans are doing much better and we've had a few feeds. I can just imagine Max slurping his icecream!

It doesn't sound too hot then AnnG and it's good the garden has cover. I hope you can get us a photo of the little kitten if you can. He sounds lovely. What are the other cats called? I must dig out the watering system I got ages ago. I never used it, as being on a water meter I worried about it going wrong if we were away and losing lots of water. It would be good to use while we are at home though as they work on a timer.

Vera, OH said he wondered if he'd had one over the eight too! I think it must have shaken his parents as well. I saw the car belonging to 1 of the others that paid for the gate pulled up by their house and heard raised voices this morning. I don't know what it was about, but I also saw that the last delivery of materials had been left at the side of their house but on the road which is only a car width. It is also where the chap has to turn sharp left to drive past us and out of the close and it is a tight turn so maybe the materials were in the way of his big car. The asian's house drive is opposite the gate and opening so they don't have to make the turn themselves. You were brave having the oven on! lol. OH had a bit of a snooze this afternoon too! :-D

Too many subs and some not suitable this time and they completely squashed one of OH's loaves. I think we packed it away in record time today so the freezer stuff didn't melt. They left the crates this time but we weren't bothered as they needed to be quick to stop things thawing.

AnninGlos Report 17 Jul 2022 16:48

Took two hours to get here which is really good timing. Traffic was heavy but all moving. We were here at 1.45. Did a quick trip out to Do bids but actually didn’t buy anything. Had a cup of tea and a cheese scone, that was lunch really. Fans all over the house so cool indoors temp way over thirty but I am I. The garden under an awning and in the shade. Cloudy now

Pot plants and baskets all doing well but they do have an auto watering system..

They now have four cats. New addition is a tiny little black 8 week old kitten called Dotty. Very sweet but have to be very careful not to step on her or let her escape as she can’t go out yet.

SuffolkVera Report 17 Jul 2022 16:20

AnnG should be well on her way by now. I hope there are no problems on the roads to delay her.

You really are having some disturbed nights Ann. Fancy the son making all that racket in the middle of the night. Do you think he’d had one over the eight? I bet that family are even less popular with the neighbours now.

I bet Max loves his ice lollies Mandy. They sound yummy.

It’s about 28 or 29 degrees at the moment. We’ve kept all the blinds drawn and it doesn’t feel too bad indoors. Tomorrow and Tuesday I’ll be wishing it would cool down to a mere 28, lol. I’ll probably keep my chiropody appointment tomorrow as it’s not far to drive but, apart from the heat, there are likely to be restrictions on the trains on Tuesday so Superbloom is a definite no-no. I am so disappointed as I really wanted to go and that’s the second lot of tickets we’ve had to waste now.

I cooked a roast dinner today but made it a lighter meal than we usually have. I had a couple of large bananas that had gone soft so made a banana loaf as well. That helped fill the oven and will keep us going for a couple of days. While the meat and the cake were cooking I put on a large hat and went to do a bit of gardening but had to come in after 20 minutes as it was just too hot.

OH said as I had worked all morning while he was watching athletics he would empty the dishwasher and clear up our dinner things and tidy the kitchen. As nothing seemed to be happening I looked in the lounge just now and he was fast asleep in the chair with a cold cup of tea in front of him. Watching telly has worn him out.

I think I might have a go at a couple of the crosswords in the weekend papers next as I can’t think of anything else I want to do that doesn’t involve getting hot. Enjoy the rest of your day everyone and stay cool.

Afternoon all,

No Ann you didn't miss me , I wrote a post yesterday and just getting to the end when whoosh it was gone ,heart wasn't in it to write another so gave up do to the heat .
I don't think Lewis gas given his teachers the owls yet as they don't finish school until this coming Friday.
As far as I know the schools will be open tomorrow but I expect the must wear your blazer rule will be relaxed , Lewis's school is all air conditioned so I expect they will all be kept in .
Today is much hotter than yesterday so it's gradually building up heat .

Ann you had a disturbed night so did we ,I woke and heard a helicopter looked out but couldn't see it and gradually the noise faded away then back it came and this time I could see a beam of light coming from it so they were either looking for someone or looking for somewhere to land ,didn't hear it much after that so I soon nodded off again .
We use our fans we have three going ,one in the kitchen where Max lays ,one in the front room where I'm now sitting as its the coolest room and the other in the conservatory and we have the double doors open so we get the blow from the fan through here too.

Anng hope you have a safe and cool journey to your sons I expect your well on your way now or even there by now ,enjoy your time with the family .

I have been doing a bit of beading for a change , a friend was looking at some bracelets that I made last year and said you should to have a go at some Anklets you could sell them so I have made three so far, they are nice and easy to do just a bit longer than a bracelet , they are all the same pattern so I must have a look for another pattern but an easy one as with this heat it's hard to concentrate.

I'm thinking I might take my hanging baskets down and put them in the shade in front of the shed for the next few days or the heat will fry the flowers and they are looking really pretty now .

We have just had an icecream cornet and I gave Max a little ,I did make him his own ice cream tyhe other day , I mashed banana with peanut butter and natural yogurt and put it in some lolly moulds but it's a devil to get them out I have to run them under the tap .

Mine are at the back of my arm near the armpit and I've found another on the front of my tummy. They don't look nasty and aren't very itchy just yet.

Yes it's amazing how many things go on here now. You have a good advantage with no-one in close proximity to you. We are resting before the food arrives now. I shall be quite glad to have my head in the freezer putting stuff in there today. It's 30 degrees now so I'm in a strappy top and I dug out some old thin shorts that are cooler. It's mostly overcast though with a breeze which helps.

No Mandy or did I miss her? I bet Lewis loved giving the Head and his teacher the Owls Mandy made.

Ann you have had nothing but trouble since those new houses were built and its a shame things like that happen when before you had such a nice quiet close. I suppose they call it progress but not for the people already living there who were quite content before the new lot moved in. Did that family have to lower that great high fence they put up?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 Jul 2022 12:16

I have two more as well and so still itching.

Its 28 degrees here now but there is a nice breeze and I think its coming from the east as when I hung the washing on the line the first thing tells me which way to peg them if you now what I mean. It hsould be dry now so I better get it in before it to dry to iron. Its pillow cases and tea towels, a cleaning windows cloth and a garden shirt of mine.

Been up the shop for more things to drink for oh. He's into ginger ale so I got four bottles and some more milk and cornflakes.

Annx Report 17 Jul 2022 11:43

Morning All,

Yes have a good trip AnnG and keep as cool as you can. It's 27degrees here now, and there's a breeze which is good as it was feeling very airless compared with yesterday.

Well we couldn't believe we had another disturbed night. At 3.00am there was such a loud clattering we thought a car had run into something on the main road. Then it kept happening and even louder and we heard a voice shout something so we looked out of the window. When the clattering started again I noticed the big security gate to the 3 newest properties at the end of the close was shaking really violently. The gate slides across and must be about 15 feet wide and 6-7 feet tall. I couldn't see anyone for the bushes next door but someone was trying to force it open. This happened quite a few more times then a voice shouted 'mum' 'dad' a few times. Eventually lights came on all around the house where the elderly asians live and the gate juddered and opened. We think it mustt have been one of their 5 grown up sons. Goodness knows why he had turned up on foot at 3.00am and all their children usually operate the keypad code to get in so that was odd. Why not phone his parents too? It's all very odd but he must have woken half the close with the noise he made and it's a wonder he didn't break the gate which cost £15,000 shared between the 3 properties. I bet the occupants of the other 2 weren't impressed. After that I only slept fitfully. Whatever next.

This used to be a really quiet, peaceful close with a majority of retired people who were quiet and mostly only had one car when we moved here. Not anymore! Since 2015 when the 3 extra properties were built at the end we had a continuous stream of building lorries arriving and unloading most days and as early as 7.00 am. That took about 3 years. Then people moving in at the bottom here had alterations, workmen and skips for ages. Then in Jean's bungalow, the new folk who moved in had lots of work done making the attached garage a room and a man who built wooden leanto extensions to both sides of the bungalow, who worked on his own and spent months turning up between 7.00am and 8.00am and would be hammering and banging, sawing and mixing concrete till it was too dark to see. Now lorries have started turning up with materials to build the extension the asian's are having built. They must have got planning permission now.

Well sorry for my muttering, but it's off my chest now! :-) I nipped and got a paper earlier and posted a card I made and some news clips I found about an old teacher we had who died recently to a friend I've kept in touch with since age 9. She has reached the same age as me and has 4 New forest ponies and a cat. I also found some old photos of us to print and send that I thought she might like.

I've reorganised the freezers in the garage which was a nice cool job and have paid some bills and sorted for the drive to be cleaned next week. We need to move pots, two tables and chairs and cut back more things that are overhanging the paths before then, so it means we can do it a bit at a time and carefully.

Better get lunch now. We decided on jacket pots with cottage cheese, salad, chicken and I got a scotch egg between us while I was out.

I have 2 bites now Mel, how are yours now?

waiting for son now it is 23 degrees here. He has said about 12 but that all depends on traffic. no motorway from MK to here so not a really fast journey.

Should be cook in the car Mel, air con will probably be so cold my arms will be freezing.

Good morning AnnG and all

18 degrees and very pleasant here at the moment. It would be lovely if it stayed like this all day but it’s supposed to go up to 30 later. The temperature dropped a bit last night so I managed without the fan and slept a bit better though I was still awake at 5 am.

I haven’t any plans for the day. I’ll just do what the heat allows and everything else can wait.
