We are 27 at ther mo.
Jane and her fan. I bought her that fan as I knew she would love it.
Done a bit of tidying of the bits of box hedge that keep fallin g out. and I must pick my sweet peas.
The second tom thats ripening is only as big as a marrow fat pea!! It was next to the one I picked.
I bought necterines llast week and they sent the extra special ones instead of the ordinary and they were so delish I have ordered them again. The juice just ran down my arm when I bit into it. I have a thing about suede apples and have to peel those but must admit I did peel the necty too.

Afternoon All,
We had such a fright at 10.00pm last night. We were in bed when there was an almighty bang that sounded just in front of our bedroom window where we were. More bangs followed like gun shots and we scrambled out of bed wondering what the hell was going on. A whoosh followed a few moments later and we realised it must be a firework. We waited for more but nothing, so we went to the back of the bungalow, as we weren't really sure where the sound had come from. We could just see over the side fence that a neighbour was at the bottom of the garden looking into the field. This morning they told us they saw it come from behind the tree in the field just behind our fence. They hadn't been able to see anyone but were as concerned as us as the tree is tinder dry and the field is waist high with dry hay and the whole field could have been in flames. Their poor little Westie was terrified. We wonder if it is some kids now they are on holiday. The neighbour is going to walk the dog in the field later when it's cooler and see if he can spot any debris.
Vera we get emails from the people we got our last freezer from and I noticed some of the fans now had remotes and they state some are silent too which is good, especially for the bedroom. I always think of our Jane with her handheld fan when it's hot as she would take it to the cinema or theatre. I think she brought it to a meal out we had once too. That was when we were getting hot flushes! Thank goodness those are over at last. I hope you manage the neighbour's pots ok. You have just reminded me of Gill's many . Perhaps she's been able to plant most things by now. I went and got tetanus injections in 2001-2 when they told me it as important with being a gardener. I've never had a recall since.
If you have an annual delivery pass with Asda and don't spend £40 they charge you for delivery instead of it being covered by your delivery pass. You have to enter some items in your basket by 3 days before delivery is due or you lose the slot, but I add just a few things at first and top it up a bit at a time right till the day before delivery. I still have more things to add today for tomorrow's delivery.
OH has a dentist checkup on Monday afternoon and he is concerned about the heat, but I reminded him the dentist has airconditioning now so it shouldn't be too hot. He will have to cool his car down by opening the windows before he goes though as our cars stand in the sun.
I had a short stint in the garden while it was cooler this morning and trimmed back some of the shrubs from the border edges and did some dead heading and tidied up our tomato plants that still have green toms Mel! OH cut down the poppy heads and did some weeding. Two washes went out and are dried and put away. I thought we'd better get that done in case there are power outages like they suggest, although why it should be the case I don't know as we managed ok in 1976. No aircon in our car or at work then, not even curtains in our office or chilled water or any going home early. The managers bought us all icecreams and that was it!
I hope the garden has some shade for you this afternoon AnnG. There's a slight breeze here which is making it more pleasant. I expect you are all packed now so I hope you have a nice time and can get some photos of Superbloom if you do go!
Just had a nice juicy nectarine.
We are just a bit cooler at 23 degrees according to the PC Mel.

It has gone up to 17 degrees now and I have just been out and watered all the pots. I think Monday and Tuesday in M Keynes is going to be as you say for where you are Vera. Don't think we will be going anywhere.
I have to pack today and then at 3pm we have a small group meeting in somebody;s garden for tea (U3a). Hopefully there will be some shade.

Good morning AnnG and all
It’s 18 degrees already here. As I was looking at the weather app just now some of the information changed. Today’s high is now predicted to be 26 instead of 24 and the next few days keep going up. Monday and Tuesday are now expected to be 39 degrees :-(. I have a chiropody appointment on Monday that I would like to cancel but they are not open at weekends so I can’t cancel till Monday and with such short notice I will be charged. I’ll have to decide what to do on Monday.
My neighbour called last night to say they are going to be away from this morning till Sunday night and would I water her pots. She has loads so I’ll have to do hers while OH does ours. I’ve also got all granddaughter’s bedding and towels to wash and a load of ironing so I’d better get started before it gets any hotter. Then it’s Tesco this afternoon.

Good morning all. 9 degrees and sunny and quite pleasant at the moment. too hot in bed though so I am up but not washed/dressed. Vera interesting about the tetanus jabs, I do seem to remember that about lifetime jabs. No doubt I can find out sometime. Had to laugh on Thursday at our meeting, one of the members got a phone call yo confirm she has an appointment with a doctor, face to face. I think the date was something like 2 September.

it’s quite pleasant here at the moment. It’s 24 degrees but there’s a bit of cloud cover and a nice gentle breeze. I’ve been sitting outside shelling peas.
A couple of you have said you don’t use fans unless really essential. I couldn’t manage without mine. We have 2 big floor standing ones. One is a few years old but the one I use was only bought last summer. It was a very expensive German make but is wonderful. There are so many different ways it can be used and is quieter than older models. It has a nice little remote so I can turn it on or off or change settings without getting out of bed. It’s strange that the slightest noise outside in the night will wake me but I can sleep through the “white noise” of the fan.
AnnG I am not sure of the current thinking on tetanus jabs. Several years ago OH and I were both told we had had our lifetime allowance but when we went to Russia and asked at the surgery about jabs the nurse decided to give us a tetanus one to be on the safe side. That was 5 years ago. I don’t think you are automatically recalled. My father didn’t believe in vaccinations when I was a child so I have had nothing. I’m like you with Tesco and Sainsbury. I am now having a delivery about every 3 weeks and alternate the two. I book my slot and just put in a few things I know I will want to hold it, then do the full order the day before delivery. In fact I’ve just done my Tesco order for delivery tomorrow afternoon.
We had a lovely day yesterday with granddaughter. I don’t think we stopped talking. My voice is still croaky. Mid-morning we drove the few miles to Arger Fen and had a lovely walk through the shady part and then went to a nice pub in a nearby village for a leisurely lunchtime meal.
Today we had an easy start to the day and then drove her the 20 miles to a station to catch a lunchtime train on the start of her way home. She needed to change at Peterborough and Leeds and the train from Leeds is a local one that gets her to a station about 4 miles from her home. Dil picked her up there.
I often discuss books with this particular grandchild and we recommend books to each other. She has left a book with me that she had in her rucksack and thought I might like. It’s called Around The World in 80 Trains so I look forward to reading that. Goodness knows when we’ll see her again so I’m pleased and grateful that she wanted to spend a day or two with us now.
I’ve been typing this while cooking our dinner which is just about ready so I’ll wish you all a good night. Be back tomorrow.

Its 21 here and there is a bit of a breeze.
Ok Ann I will keep my slugs and snails to myself.
We had one deer come through the garden this morning then this afternoon as I was at the sink giving it a good clean a baby one came in followed closely by mum. Now was that mum who came through first to see if the coast was clear to bring baby in? They did'nt stay long and worked their way across the garden and out of sight from the house.
I have day lillies out today so they did'nt even eat any of those. Hoorah!!

I am sure I should need a tetanus booster but the surgeries don't seem to call you for them these days Goodness knows when i had the last one. I did have a smallpox booster in the 60s when T was in the RN.I have had all th illnesses such as measle rubella, whooping cough, chickenpox. mumps but I suspect immunity has waned from thos as it would be all in the 40s/50s. I think I will have had a polio one as we lived near Stokes Bay where we were warned not to go in the sea. If I ever get to see a doctor U will ask.
As hearing aids magnify sound you can imagine what a fan sounds like.
My biggest worry is my pot plants, I have absolutely loads of tomatoes on the three plants by the house but that heat is going to finish them off. Oh well it is only plants I won't be able to do anything about it.

Afternoon All,
I slept quite well but woke at 4.00am with itchy, runny eyes so I got up and rinsed my face as it was probably the pollen while I was outside watering last night. It's cooler here again today, still only 20 degrees and we had the doors and windows open first thing to let the coolness in.
First job was to pack up my boombox to return as it keeps clicking when playing tapes. I did some googling and it is suggested that belts inside are loose. It's a shame as the sound quality was really good. Now I need to find another one to replace it. Next we returned it at the PO on the way to my appointment with the nurse. It was to discuss vaccines I have never had (most!) and whether others need boosters. In the end she has decided I should have the whole lot as some are combined with others nowadays. It is the spread of Measles that prompted me to see her and she agreed it was a good idea as immunity to everything wanes as we get older anyway. So over the next few months I will have various jabs and started today with the first of three tetanus jabs. :-)
Just ordered some art bits from Hobbycraft to use my £5 birthday voucher from them. OH is doing more shredding in the garage.
How annoying you lost your post Vera, even after doing C&P.
I don't think you will need to pack too many woollies this time AnnG! We haven't used a fan yet this year but might be doing after this weekend. We aren't keen either unless we are really hot. I seem to feel 10 times hotter once you switch them off and our older ones tend to be noisy. They were a boon before I retired and would get home from visits and carry on working at home after stripping off a hot suit and driving in the pool car without AIRCON.
We were saying how fast this year is going too Mel. I also need to do more of my food order ready for Sunday. That seems to come round quickly as well. You can keep your slugs and snails in Devon thank you! lol. I bet we will be seeing them here once it rains well.

Is Asda like Tesco Mel? As long as I put two items on the list and check out to payment then I can add the rest of my list the day I want to. It is sort of like reserving the slot but they can take minimum payment even if your order doesn't add up to that, so with Tesco I could reserve the slot with something costing £2 and then if I don't add anything else I still have to pay £40 for that one item. It stops time wasters.

Morning Girls,
Bright and sunny here again this morning and its 19 degrees. Perhaps I will get some HW done today I don't know.
Sorry you lost your post Vera thats very unlike you as you do it in notes and C & P it to GR. Seems like theres gramlins in the works as it so hot.
Friday again where are the weeks going. Perhaps its because I can't remember what I did in the week they seem to go so quickly.
I must do the Asda order. I can't understand why they tell you to use your next slot the day after or the day you've had your shopping. You don't know by then what you are going to need or run out of.

I’ve checked in the Recently Deleted file in Notes and it isn’t there so I haven’t accidentally deleted it. No time to redo it now. Might get back later. Have a nice day.

I don't use fans at home Ann, I don't really like them but I am sure son has enough. At least his patio area is cooler as it is shaded by an overhead blind that comes out from the house. We have one but I have not used it, T always used to see to it.

Iv'e done my watering. You can have plenty of my slugs and snails Ann if you want some I am willing to send you some........ We have a lovely thrush down by my shed and I sometimes hear her bashing away at snails. We get so may here and retty ones too with stripes and the rose snails. Plenty of the huge ones and sometimes if I go down to banty at dusk I tread on them. Horrid feeling.
Well Iv'e not done any spider sucking up today or anything else for that matter as oh was very off colour today. He has slept a lot so no hoovering or making any kind of noise. Done a little bit of painting but I am not happy with it so it may go under the tap for me to start again. Thats why I like watercolour I can wash it off.
Good the car went through its MOT Mandy. Mines due next month and I must remember to ring Stuart to see if he can have a listen to the rattle I have on the steering, probably track rod ends.

Afternoon All,
Slept well again and was actually a bit chilly by the time we went to bed. It was much cooler and we opened all the doors to cool the bungalow down for an hour or so. It is still only 21 degrees here and has been more pleasant today, but the temperature will soon be climbing again! I did a nice tray bake of our own courgettes, a red pepper and some parsnip, a big potato, onions and carrots that all wanted eating up. Some nice salmon fillet done in the oven too to go with it for lunch.
Vera your GD is a very confident young lady and has so many interesting things planned it puts me to shame. I wish I had half her confidence now, let alone the timid thing I was at age 20! She is using her time wisely too and adding lots of skills to her CV which is good. She must think us oldies are right fusspots!
I have just hoovered, then mopped the tiled floors in the ensuite, bathroom, kitchen and uti so that was my house chores for the day. OH has taken the shredder to the garage and is sitting shredding lots of old work stuff which he badly needs to do.
It is a nuisance having to tiptoe around and being unable to do things when he is working on zoom but most of the time I don't mind for the hour or two it usually takes as I can fit around it and sometimes before the pandemic I would pop out somewhere. He finds these whole days too much, especially when he feels things could be dealt with far more quickly. At least he can just stop doing them as he has no contract to do these voluntary ones.
We now have another quote for the drive cleaning and they quoted a very close figure to the other man so we can go ahead with it now.
The neighbour nest door told us the farmer who was leasing the field behind us has got it back for now as the owner is making no progress with plans for building on it which is good for us.
That's good the car passed Mandy. There's always a bit of uncertainty that they may find something!
AnnG you have been busy today. I hope you won't be too hot at MK. Do they have enough fans or would it be worth you taking one if the bedroom is hot? I was reading yesterday that the cool gel mats for dogs from B & M are good for us to use on our beds too! I might look into getting one. lol.
Mel I keep seeing spider webs everywhere. We get dead woodlice they have killed in the ensuite. One thing I haven't seen much of this year is slugs and snails.
Better do some watering now.
