Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 May 2022 13:08

Not done much this morning and shoulder is a little sore today after my stint in the garden yesterday.

Mine is 4/5 years younger than me too.

Cleaned the little bathroom and am just going to get some lunch.

Morning All,

Cloudy, drizzly and a bit breezy here and only 13 degrees.

Yes, Mel is right with us both having toy boys! lol. :-D Mine is 5/6 years younger than me AnnG so it isn't his age. For years he was invited for annual checkups that I never got, till it cropped up that he wasn't on any BP medication and so shouldn't have been invited for checkups! That puzzled me for a long time too. This time it was a new nurse he saw who seemed very thorough, so that may be the reason. I was surprised when they found I had a slight heart murmur over 10 years ago that there was no ongoing monitoring or checks. I just hope they don't start refusing me the annual blood sugar check in future after it being normal this year. That was recommended annually after I took part in a research study at a hospital but I had a right battle with the surgery receptionist and had nurses phoning me the night before my appointments for quite a few years as they thought I didn't need them as I wasn't diabetic!! I think the next painting will be no better as it is abstract next time I think, so not my kind of thing either. I hope your dentist didn't find any work to do!

OH is already on a zoom meeting so I will do some salad to go with the chicken pasta and plant up the Hosta I got yesterday next. The knee doesn't feel up to the walk yet so one job will be to find a new home for a matured ISA! Also to get some quotes for OH's car insurance which is due soon. It's tricky this time as what may be a good quote for his current car may not be so good for his new one. The garage insures the new one for the first week.

Ann's hubby is her toy boy same as me.

AnninGlos Report 25 May 2022 08:29

Good morning all looks like a drizzly morning out there so a damp trip to town for the chiropodist I suppose. Hopefully it will keep more people out as mask wearing seems to be becoming obsolete.

Hopefully your tutor will like the painting, at least he should like the subject if he chose it. so, not one to frame for your wall then. Hope the next subject is nicer.

Sounds like you got a good selection of plants at the garden centre. This is the time of year that it is difficult not to buy things as the colours are so tempting.

I wonder why your OH is getting such a thorough blood test, good for him though. would it be his age? Is he older than you?
Did we ;see; vera yesterday? I hope all is well. Hopefully just busy.

Annx Report 24 May 2022 19:51

Evening All,

It's been sunny with showers and quite warm here today. I was up early and went to the village garden centre and they have so many plants now, more than some of the big garden centres. They did have Choisya, but not the 'Sundance' variety I wanted. I did spot a white edged Hosta that doesn't grow big for a pot in a shady spot on the patio so got that and also a gardener's delight tom to replace the one the ants got. I have poured boiling water in the big pot iot was in and some ant powder so hopefully it will be safe to plant this new tom in there tomorrow. I also got some greenhouse clips that I can push on and tie string to from the support poles for the toms and cues. I was going to do the walk on the way back but got soaked in a shower of rain walking back to the car so that was the end of that idea.

I finished my painting and sent it off and still hate it! The tree man came tonight and removing the tree sounds very straightforward and he says we needn't move our cars (but I think I will!) and he's also going to cut the stump that's left of the Acer in the back garden down as low as he can. He can't get his stump grinder in the narrow space like he can with the pine tree on the front. No extra charge for that either.

OH had his blood test this morning and it seems because he hasn't had a blood test for a couple of years they are checking everything, blood sugar, thyroid, kidneys, liver etc. He always seems to get well looked after, yet I get interrogated when I book my thyroid or blood sugar test.......they ask who has said I need it etc yet he didn't even ask for a blood test!!

I planted up 2 more pots today and noticed one of the violas in the front wall pots has flopped for no apparent reason. I hope it isn't vine weevils. :-(

Your garden is looking nice AnnG, especially the roses and things are growing well. So it looks like you do have a hog in the compost bin!

My OH is just the same Mel. Often it's just when we are about to go out too.

AnninGlos Report 24 May 2022 15:04

OK no problem for me I just send them out as usual. although it is a sort of not nice feeling to know that you are blocked. For whatever reason. :-)

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 May 2022 14:30

Yes Ann sent them to me so for now its ok if they send them on. Oh is too busy to have a look for me at the mo but if he can do it for me I will let you know.

17 here now and I am just going to wash up the lunch things as I keep getting sidetracked.

AnninGlos Report 24 May 2022 12:00

He obviously misses male company Mel.
Well there has not been any movement with the nest at all, it doesn't look as though anything has been in or out, or it didn't yesterday I will have a look in a minute. Have you received the photos from somebody else forwarding them then?

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 May 2022 11:24

Garden is looking lovely Anng and all the toms are doing well. It is definately a hedgehog in your bin as its a typical nest. It will be lovely to see if it is a female and she has hoglets. They will eat all the nasties in the garden.

Shopping arrived early and oh had to see to the driver as I was'nt dressed or had my hair up or my teeth in!!!!!! Why do men talk so long? I had to wait ages while they talked about all the silly drops and about living in London.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 May 2022 10:39

Back from the dentist now just had to make 2 bookings for 2 lots of deep cleans but they are for end June/beginning July. No problems with my teeth anyway.

You would have had the emails by now Mel As they were from the apple Ipad with Siri and not the desk top with Firefox, I am pretty certain that your PC has my address blocked. Hope you can sort it out with OH's help. I don't block spam I just delete them forever so I don't know how you find out addresses that you have blocked. Is there a list?

It rained as I walked round to the dentist but it is sort of sunny now with cloud that looks like rain as well and of course the garden is too wet to work on. I noticed I have one poppy out, and some of the bigger ornamental ones are almost out.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 May 2022 09:49

Morning Anng and all,

We have a bright morning 13 degrees and sunny with big white clouds and some grey ones and deep blue sky.

Shopping comes today and only two subs which are my nice toms Aramati toms for vine ripened cherry toms and a sweetheart cabbage instead of a savoy but that for the chickens anyway and they won't mind except it won't last them as long as a savoy does.

No emails Anng. I will let you know if anything comes through and I think it maybe me. I block lots of spam email domains and may have got your on there by mistake when my eyes were'nt working properly. I will ask oh again when he has time to have a look as I tried yesterday with no success.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 May 2022 08:26

good morning all, it has rained quite a lot over night but is ok now. I am just hoping it holds off until I am home from the dentist.

Mel I have tried sending you an email with photos from my Ipad. If you get it that will probably mean my desk top is blocking your number somehow. If you do not get it it will probably mean that it is something in your system that is blocking my email address for some reason. Let me know if you receive an email from me with 4 photos on it. I actually forwarded the one with the photos but I am also going to send a test email with no photos from my Ipad.

Ann your OH is going to have to be more careful, it seems that hernia is vulnerable, hope he can keep it from flaring up.
I am sure it must be hard to do a good job in your own opinion if you don't like the subject in the first place. I am equally sure you will have done a good job with it.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 23 May 2022 20:26

I did some ironing today and had a play as it has rainied all day some really heavy showers. Oh had started working on the turf tracfk but the rain stopped play.

Cooked a little oyster joint for dinner and it was lovely with peas and mash. Oh had a cheese and onion sauce with his. I hav'nt had one of those oyster joints for years. I used ot get them in Mole Valley but with not going for a looonnnnngggg while I missed themj. If I have to go for layers pellets when they come in I shall buy another one.

Still no email here Anng so can someone please forward it to me, thanks.

Was looking through mums jewelry box for something today and found an old £20 note so I shall have to take that to the post office to get it changed for a new one.

Annx Report 23 May 2022 19:43

Evening All,

I posted earlier but it went into the ether!!

We planned to go to the tip this morning but OH had set his hernia off again. I'm still sure he carried too many bags of the shopping at once yesterday. I almost tripped over his foot last night and it set my knee off so I limped when I got up in the night, so we decided to rest up today and will see if we can go later in the week. He has a busy week though with 8 meetings and a trip for his blood test tomorrow so we'll have to see. I wanted to get rid of a few things down the tip before he gets his new car. They were supposed to ring today to arrange collection but didn't ring so we'll have to ring them if they don't ring tomorrow. The tree man is coming after 5.00pm tomorrow now and OH will be out so I will have to make any arrangements with him.

I saw the knitting grannies too and liked the covers they had knitted. The yarn bomb knitters here do similar covers for the pillar boxes. They had things stolen last year which is a shame.

Mandy I had those eyedrops when I went to the eye hospital about my cataracts and they do sting a bit for few minutes. They advise you not to drive so it's good you can take your son. Don't let him forget to take sunglasses for coming home either as the sun is very bright.

I've done most of my painting but it is so dreary it's quite depressing and I don't like it at all! lol. Still, it is all practice for me. :-) Otherwise I've done nothing apart from cook us fish with leeks, baby sweetcorn, carrots and some baby new potatoes.

Evening all ,

Little bit of sun today and a few spots of rain this afternoon but not enough to really wet the ground.
We got the lawn cut first thing so we could take the cuttings to the tip with some other garden rubbish and an old hoover that Colin had used in the shed that had packed up and we also called and got some eggs ,had a coffee when we got back and then we've both been just pottering and you can't see what we've done really .

Tomorrow I have to take son to the doctors to have that test for his diabetes where he has the drops in his eyes it makes his eyes very sensitive to light so he can hardly see after its done no way can he drive so I always pick him up and drive him home .

AnninGlos Report 23 May 2022 10:28

you'd get your bath mucky if you did what they do in theirs :-D

I have cleared the airing cupboard and put all the clothes away and given the kitchen sink and surround a good clean so the slainless steel is gleaming nicely now!!!!!

Watered the outside tomatoes and a few other pots and next step is to go down the greenhouse.

yes mine just changed to 15 and partly sunny. Actually it is more cloudy than sunny but still quite bright.

Morning Anng and all,

Yes your right there about taking longer to heal. Its not too bad at the mo ut Iv'e not done anything yet.My pc was saying the same as yours but it just change to watch your list or something and now says partly sunny and 15 degrees but theres not a glimpse of the sun out there just very grey sky all over. It is dry though so I suppose that good.

Nothing planned may do a bit of ironing after feeding all the birds and I need to wash out the bird bath. I don't know how they getit so mucky.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 23 May 2022 08:01

Good morning all a pleasant looking dry clear morning with some sun and 11 degrees. PC is saying 'rain to stop' but I am sure this must cover from here to Cornwall as it rarely reflects our weather properly. This is the only day this week that I have nothing organized. Tuesday the dreaded dentist, Wednesday chiropodist, Thursday coffee at local garden centre, Friday photography group meeting and Saturday Hairdresser. So gardening and H/W will have to be fitted in between.

Mel hope that shoulder soon eases. These things take longer to heal the older we get.

There's always someone who has to spoil it for other is'nt there? They did the knitting in Bideford a couple of years ago but not been there since lockdown so don't know if they still do it.

Neck and arm is a bit painful again tonight.

I did make some scones this afternoon which we had for tea but not done much else.

Oh has the old Ransom turf track mower up on the ramp now so maybe thats a project for this year. He said if he can't get it to go he will take it all apart and scrap it. He moved it from by the chickens pen to the ramp with the digger. I don't know where we would be without the digger.

ZZzzz I think you can buy a bottle of grass seed for patching lawns. Dig the area over and put a it of fresh soil in there and have another go with some seed and keep it well watered. Another trick is to mix a bit of seed with some potting compost in a bucket and put it some where warm and keep it moist and when it starts to germinate then sprinkle it on the bald patch and tamp it down and put something over it to keep the birds off like a garden sive or as piece of fleece if you have any.
