Evening All,

Been very busy the last few days getting various things done ready as OH has his operation tomorrow. It's not a hospital we have been to before and is 30 miles away, but if he wanted keyhole, that is where the surgeon is. His OP is in the afternoon so it will probably be dark when I need to go back to fetch him and drive him home. I'm not looking forward to that as part of the journey is along a few miles of narrow, unlit, winding road with no kerbs and I avoid driving at night now with the dazzle. I need to finish this week's painting off and send it tomorrow, so that will keep me busy till he phones me to collect him. I may not be around for a while as I'll be wearing my Nurse Gladys outfit!

Mandy, best wishes for Wednesday and having your plasters off. It will give you a bit more freedom with your arms hopefully and at least be a bit more comfortable for you. I can sympathise with the sore bottom from having to sit, as I had the same trouble sitting all day when I took part in a research study. It was horrid keep having to move and no position being comfy. Don't hurt yourself trying to reply, just hang in there, count the days off and get yourself better. <3 <3 xx.

Saw the Egret again yesterday in the same place. It's surprising really as cars whizz by within a few feet. On the walk today I took bread for the ducks but it was very strange as none came rushing over to be fed and no quacking like there usually is. A group of about a dozen were on the pond about 30 feet away and were almost stationary. We waited about 10 minutes throwing the odd bit of bread but they weren't tempted although they were watching. We wondered if they were sick......bird flu? I expect we'll know if they all disappear and I did see a dead Pigeon further along a few weeks ago. Just as we were about to turn and leave 2 lovely Beagles came rushing up and one sat next to me staring at the bag of bread! The other was sniffing all around for crumbs before coming and sitting patiently as well. Next thing the owner was shouting Treacle and waving a bag of treats, so off they scampered. They were good though and didn't try and jump up, just sat licking their lips. lol.

That made me chuckle about your OH and his version of the coffee order from a friend Vera!

SuffolkVera Report 10 Oct 2022 15:58

Lots of rain overnight and for a couple of hours this morning but then it dried up and the sun’s been out all afternoon. It’s supposed to get very cold overnight so I got OH to bring a couple of tender plants in pots into the conservatory. I must make the effort soon to lift the geraniums and cut some fleece to cover my lovely agapanthus.

Nothing much happening today so not a lot to report. Friends came for coffee. OH did his usual trick of asking a question and not listening to the answer so the husband who asked for coffee with sugar found himself drinking tea without. Luckily they are good friends and laughed about it. Another friend rang to ask us to go to a quiz night on Saturday but OH didn’t fancy it so we said No Thanks to that one. I’ve done a little bit of ironing and prepared tonight’s dinner and that’s it for the day.

Tomorrow will be equally exciting. We’ve both got a dental appointment :-(

Morning Anng and all,

Bright and sunny here this morning and I overslept as I have only been up about half an hour.

!2 degrees here with clear blue sky but pc says cloudy. It did rain last night before I went to bed.

A few thing I need to do today so won't be around much but will try and pop in to see what you have posted.

Hope Island and Mandy are feeling better today and is it today or this Wednesday Mandy has her plasters off?

AnninGlos Report 10 Oct 2022 07:47

good morning all, daughter and SiL left for home now. My alarm either didn't go off or didn't wake me up, although I was awake an hour before it was due to go off. It has rained overnight but is dry now and 10 degrees. plenty for me to do today. one load of washing already in.

My tom sauce is very hit and miss Island. I usually saute a small amount of onion in a drop of oil and butter then add chopped tomatoes, maybe some sweet chilli sauce )not too much and some liquid (water, wine??) simmer the tomatoes until soft and thickened in the liquid then put them in a liquidiser. As I say hit and miss but good for adding to stews etc. You can add any herbs you like of course and seasoning. sometimes a tiny half teaspoon of sugar will bring out the flavour of the tomato.

Plenty to do here but daughter and SiL still here so we went to the garden centre to give myself something else to do, then we went to the local Tesco and I did a shop so I can cancel my delivery tomorrow which I don't really need, The washing will be done tomorrow.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Oct 2022 15:04

O I meant to say Island make a tom sauce with onion, garlic and black pepper and freeze that its lovely on pasta. No faffing.

I made bubble and squeak this morning and I had some for lunch with a nice new egg, tomatoes and bacon and I put four more portions in a yosrkshire pud tray lined with cling flim and they are going in the freezer. I wanted to use the cabbage so it was'nt only fit for the chickens but they got the outside leaves so they were happy.

Vera I found I could lay on my right side as normal if I pushed the pillow up for my shoulder to go underneath, that way it did'nt hurt. Both arms are a lot better today but the flu hurts more in my left.

Island that was very early to do gardening but I must admit to being out in the garden this morning at 8.30am fishing leaves out the pond. The winds blowing in the wrong direction as its coming a bit south east and the red tree is shedding its leaves and they blow right in the pond. As there is no way I could use the pond vac I am trying to get as many out as I can.

Hope Mnady slept better last night. <3

You were up and about early this morning Island. I’m usually up early but fit for nothing till I've had a cuppa. Even after my cup of tea I don’t think I could get myself motivated to garden that early in the morning. I’m very impressed :-)

Glad you had a safe journey back AnnG. Now it’s back to reality, washing, ironing, h/w, shopping etc. By the time you have sorted yourself out you’ll need another holiday, lol.

I’ve been doing lots of washing this morning as the forecast for today was better than tomorrow’s. I’ve also got friends coming for coffee tomorrow morning so I won’t get much done then. I didn’t have a good night as my Covid jab arm was very painful, though the flu jab arm was fine. I found it difficult to get in a position that didn’t hurt. I ended up on my back for most of the night. It’s a bit better this morning and will probably be OK tomorrow. Better an painful arm for a couple of days than a dose of Covid.

I’m sitting here with a glass of wine and dinner is cooking. I must go and check whether the chicken is cooked and turn the roast potatoes and parsnips, then just some veg to steam and the gravy to make. I’m beginning to feel peckish now.

Island Report 9 Oct 2022 10:10

morning Anng, do you have a recipe for tom sauce? I've looked online and there's to much chaff to plough through.
I'm fed up with my ribs, they hurt when I sneeze - I'm a career sneezer - but I need to get on and do things. No reaching or lifting I think.

Are you gardening today or resting after your holiday and journey home?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Oct 2022 09:44

:-D Island, yeh that will be it!

make the split toms into a sauce and freeze it, just being split won't spoil them.

Gosh you were busy early. How are your ribs?

Island

Island Report 9 Oct 2022 09:11

morning Mel and Anng

I wasn't far behind you Ann - awake at 5.30, lay there half dozing. I was in the garden by 7.30 harvesting the gardeners delight and crimson crush toms before the sun came round to blind me. I'm not sure how many will be edible as some have split and don't look too appetising. I fed the green bin with the tom vines and will be adding bean vines later so I should have a full bin for this week. It was quite fresh out so I was ready for my first cuppa.

I'd love and Indian meal Anng but no one's offering - not even a light lunch :-|
It'll be the leprosy :-\

Afternoon all. We got home at 1pm after an uneventful but bust journey. we left Mawnan smith at 0815, the slowest bit of the journey was from there to Truro which too half an hour. We stopped for half an hour for coffee and loo so we made good time even if the traffic was heavy. I have already unpacked and we have had lunch. the garden looks fine there has obviously been some rain so it all looks healthy. Like you Vera there is till a bit to do before winter sets in. Today has been beautiful, all the way home and it lis still lovely now,

sorry you are still suffering from bad nights Mandy, maybe that will improve when the casts are off and hopefully the pain will ease soon

Sorry you too are still suffering Island Hope your pain eases soon too.

My Jabs are next Friday will be glad to get them out of the way, Unusual for me to be the last to have mine, should have been last week. be just my luck for them to run out.

Thats ok Mandy we all quite understand. I think you are doing very well to get a post on here anyway but we do like to hear from you. The splints will be like a fingerless glove with a metal plate underneath to support the wrist probably in that old fashioned pinky flesh colour. I found one in oh's study from when he had a carpol tunnel done.

Arms not too bad during the day but hanging the washing on the line was a bit painful as its a kingsize quilt cover and its cotton so quite heavy.

BIL came before I was dressed and is fiddleing with the digger and mower.

SuffolkVera Report 8 Oct 2022 12:35

Sorry to hear you had a bad night again Mandy. You must feel shattered. Get some shut-eye whenever you can. Don't worry about not commenting on posts; I'm amazed you are managing to type at all. I think you will probably find the splints a bit easier than the plaster casts.

We are now all jabbed up. Our local surgery has been used as a vaccination hub since the beginning of the pandemic and have got it down to a fine art now. We were only out for 40 minutes and that included a walk in each direction of 12-15 minutes, going through all our details and giving us both 2 injections.

My flu arm is fine but my Covid arm feels heavy and achy already. It's good gardening weather but I don't think I'll be doing anything much in the garden today. My back just aches a bit and I don't want to set it off again and the arm ache isn't helping. I must get out there again soon as there are troughs and pots to clear of annuals, quite a bit of cutting back to do and all the geraniums to lift and pot up or take cuttings from, and loads of bulbs to plant up once I've got enough pots and containers free. I suppose it'll all get done eventually.
