Good Morning Ann and all, I did not realise this thread was on the boards. The OH and myself, are ardent fans of Gareth, and have watched all his series' of programmes. He is absolutely brilliant. It does not matter what we have been following on the other channels, be it soaps or a drama, we always drop them in favour of watching Gareth, even at the expense of missing the 'who did it' in a murder mystery. He is very underrated on the television, and his programmes deserve more publicity by the BBC, when they are running.
I put on a couple of threads during the last week or so, that the England team, could have done with spending more time with Gareth, as part of their training, to learn how to sing the National Anthem. And of course the discipline and sheer hard work involved, would have made them meld together as a team.

Eira, I remember seeing the South Oxhey folk starting their choir and singing in a square or area in the town. It was great the way he got them all together.

I have a relative with your name, do you have family in Llanelli ?

I've now caught up with these recorded programmes.
Wasn't he great the way that he inspired those unlikely singers to believe in themselves.?
I too wondered what became of them post-Glynebourne. In the end they seemed to get on well as a group. I wonder if they've kept in touch at all?

Hi Wend, I so agree with you, he always seems quite surprised that he pulls these things off, bless him.

I do love to see those young people or folk who you would never expect to 'conform' getting into singing and learning a whole new discipline, many of them not worried about their street cred but just going for it and taking a different path in life for a while. I am sure it will help stand many of them in good stead in years to come, and may even open doors for some as well to make their way in life in a different way to what had been thought would happen.

Good luck to all of them, I missed the last Glyndebourne one but it's on again during the week so will watch it then.

You know, maybe someone should nominate him for an award from the Queen.

Heartwarming is the correct word to use. Lovely programmes.

Happy days

He's a fantastic guy. I've watched every episode of his 3 series and found them so heartwarming. What an inspiration he is to young people, some quite deprived, bringing out the best in them in a totally unpatronising way.

It would be interesting to know if the kids were able to go on and enjoy music in anyway there was a lot of talent there.

And what about that 14 year old's voice?

Well me & OH or should that be my husband and I !! !! watched every episode. OH is more into Opera and classical music than i am , i like what I call the popular classics,! We both loved the programme and willed them all to do well and more important to love it. We did remark though that what would the kids do when it was all over. I do hope the girl who had the small solo part and had a really good voice did take up singing and get some formal training .
Gareth is so enthusiastic that his joy and push shines through to them all
He does look like a schoolboy though !!

Forgot I had put this on.

I remarked that he and the conductor looked like a couple of schoolboys.

Did anyone else watch it? He took a mixed group of children roughly 14 to 18 year olds from all sorts of backgrounds and molded them into the chorus for a brand ne opera called Knight Crew to be performed at Glyndebourne. Then he added a group of their mothers to be the mothers chorus. It was really good and the kids had a great time, so much talent he found from almost nowhere.
