Yes I know it's an early start but

Xmas is coming
the goose has gotten fat
No-one put a penny
in the old mans hat

Please remember the homeless and old this year.
There is more suicides and deaths at xmas and new year then at any other time of the year.
Please remember that not all homeless are there by their own choice, not all are addicts or dangerous or whatever people fear of them. Some of the young are there for fear of home some of the old are there because they slipped through the caring net.

Money isn't what they need at this time of year (that needs to go to the shelters) but blankets, warm clothes and a friendly face, a kindly word can go a long way to helping.

Please remember the old alone in their own homes also a kindly word. a quick drop by could make the difference of a lonely time feeling unwanted to a happy holiday.

Thankyou for reading this.

Thankyou for showing that you care, we older ones remember our happy family times but the silence is hard to live with sometimes.

I often hope that a quick reminder to others may help those alone. I am sorry to hear that you know the silence. It is one of the things that I thank GR people for when OH has had to work over xmas GR people are still there. Please don't be alone this year.

Well said ☼ ☼Uzzi In Sunshine ☼☼.

It is sad though that we have to be reminded to carry-out 'good deeds' & why do we seem to limit our action to the Christmas period only. Such help is needed throughout the year too.

Thank you Uzzi and Battle Maiden
I am one of the lucky ones in that my husband has a job, I have a loving family too, but he will be working all over the Christmas breakand New Year too. I shan't be alone, but not with the one I love.
My daughters work wit the homeless, one with those now homed(off the streets) one with the YMCA. And another daughter works in a day centre, which is under threat of closure due to council cuts.
The girls who work with the homeless now and in the past say that there is no clothing in storage for their clients and sleeping bags and blankets are in very short supply. Part of the problem is if you are homeless you have nowhere to keep anything.................... either you carry things with you or risk them being taken by somebody else. OR even worse councils have to dispose of sleeping bags, blankets and carboard boxes left in corners or hidden as they could be a securty risk. Yes they could be hiding a bomb or device. But then they are destroyed as there is nowhere to store them or know who to return them to either.

So if you have spare clothing or bedding, please try to give it to a homeless shelter or church especially with Christmas coming up. And if we have as bad a winter as last year well who knows............

Dermot thankyou

I agree that reminders of good deeds may seem sad and that hopefully the good deeds are done all year as they are needed.
In defence of both those who need a reminder and of those who need to remind. Xmas is so much harder to be alone at, hence the higher suicides which are not all from the homeless or old.

I know what it is like to be alone at xmas, I know how much harder it is at that time of year.

but I do agree that the old should always be checked on, the trouble is often the people who keep watch most of the year have family and other commitments during that time and I'm sorry to say the others get over looked.

Linda thankyou for that.

I had forgotten that these days the homeless can't 'stash' away their belongings anymore.
Good on your daughters for the work they do. It's fantastic.

May I also remind people that baby clothes are needed when sorting out. I guess the odd toy wouldn't go amiss either

a nudge nearer to christmas time

but the cold is with you and them now

Please check on the elders you have around and give to the homeless.

Can I also say that a puppy is for life not just for xmas but if you do want a pet as a present check out the shelters first.

Thankyou for your time reading this

On a personal level, I would just like to add my thoughts for the children of narcissistic parents who are not going to have a good Christmas but are not going to let you know because they think it is their fault.

I'm giving this a nudge because it's the same this year as it was last year.

Please remember the homeless and those home alone during the christmas festivities.

Sending part of our heating allowance to The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal.
It was really cold last night after the warmer times we have had through most of November.

Both daughters still working in Care, so we are still involved.
