I love white wine and my favourite is New zealand (marlborough region) sauvignon blanc - usually about £8 or £9 but some great offers at the moment, I got Villa Maria for £5.99 at my local Spar this week (normal price £8.99). yum yum |

Susan it does really depend on the grape and the year. I use to hate the stuff, I thought it all tasted like vinegar but then my father in law gave me some of his wine( he has a vineyard in Italy, it has been in the family for 3 generations that we know of) He gave me the same wine from different years. And each tasted different. |

It depends on region, type of grape and whether you prefer dry or sweet. A full bodied red wine like Rioja or Chianti is always good or the lighter Grignolino although this is a minor grape in Italy, is a good alternative. On the White wine list you can't really go wrong with Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio |

I agree with Chris, Rioja is good and so is Shiraz, £5-7 would be very acceptable as a gift. But take no notice of me - I like Liebfraumilch!! |

rule of thumb the more you pay the better it gets but I have to disagree with that ...sorry Chris...it really does come down to individual taste when you are in the middle price range. |

Oooo Lindsay* what a dilemma now I do like my wine but it has to be white although if I have to be posh I will do red with red meat. |
