My daughter and I were talking about this last week.........how often we open a newspaper and read about parents taking their childrens lives. My daughter has a 2 year old and 5month old and finds it terribly upsetting and is unable to understand how anyone could take their childs life whatever their circumstances. A few years ago there was an incident near where we live.......the father ringing the mother to tell her what he was about to do........she frantically ringing local police to find the car. It was too late for her four sons.

It is very sad to hear of a child/children losing their lives under any circumstances.
Even more so when a parent is the perpetrator.
I do not agree with taking a life, under any circumstances, but I always wonder what drove the parent to do it.

But for the grace of God, that could be one of us grieving a loved one.
And yes, RR I agree.

May they R.I.P and condolences to the family left to grieve for them.

I 'understand' it to an extent perhaps, if you imagine that this is not, in the mind of the person who does it, an 'act of cruelty' ie depriving the child of the wonders of life, but I 'think' perhaps the thought that

'life is unbearable for me, I cannot go on living but if I leave my children by commiting suicide it will be unbearable for them also'

If you see the way the world is going as being a downward spiral of violence and despair without any hope, as a loving parent how COULD you leave your children to face it? Especially if you believe there is something better waiting?

Don't misunderstand me, I am not condoning it, i think to 'choose life' is always the better way if at all possible, and you certainly don't have the right to choose for your children ...but perhaps the mental state of this lady /others who have done the same has gone beyond seeing any worth in living .

I've seen for myself with a friend how her now ex-husband, who was the one who had an affair and walked out to be with another woman and her children, has made her life miserable. He has constantly got to her by the way he treats their children. But the powers that be insist that he must have access and the kids have to spend alternate weekends and holidays with him and his new family. He doesn't actually want the kids with him and treats them appallingly when they are. He does it in front of his new wife and her kids too. No matter how many times they have been involved in court and the two older children have begged not to have to go and stay with him, nothing changes. He never paid a penny for them after he moved out and has successfully managed to dodge his responsibilities ever since by claiming bankruptcy in his business (discovered he'd kept another business hidden in his new wife's name). I've not spoken to my friend recently but last I heard things had changed a bit after the middle child came back after an enforced visit and told her mom that daddy had shown her his gun.

Meet him and he is such a charmer. His kids (midle daughter especially) are now showing deep psychological damage. He doesn't care. He used three absolutely beautiful children as pawns. He doesn't love them. He's managed to get them prevented from going to church which they love, with their mother.

He should never have been allowed to get away with everything he has done but the system seems to favour his rights as a father rather than what is best for his kids and what they want.

Sadly some parents don't care for their children. I tell mine every day how much I love them. I can't imagine every using them to get at someone else.

Claire = I did say I was not sure about parents of these latest two deaths.Like others I cannot understand why you could kill your own children.

An excerpt from the newspaper.

A church-going teacher and her two young children have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

The bodies of ***** 44, her son ********13 and daughter********, seven, were discovered in their detached rural home on Tuesday night.

They died while their father , was in Scandinavia with work. It is not known who was responsible for the deaths or what the motive was.
Scene: Police found the bodies of a woman and two children at a house in *********

Police officers are believed to have broken into the house, in, after they were contacted by a concerned relative.

Last night the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths remained a mystery - but a spokesman for******** police said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Shocked friends and neighbours described the family, who were members of the local Catholic church, as ‘a lovely family who would do things together’.

The parish priest, Father ********, said the family were regular worshippers at the church.

He added: ‘There is a strong Catholic community in ****** of which the family were an active part. They seldom missed a Sunday service with us.




I have taken out names and locations for obvious reasons.

Being one myself, my thoughts always go to the Grandparents. What a shock for them. Still I suppose we don't know the full story. I hope whoever did it has not asked for help and been ignored.

Maybe, just maybe I can understand parents killing themselves BUT generally speaking I cannot understand parents killing there own children. These poor children did not asked to be conceived and born.

Yes we are having a lot of stress at the moment but surely not more than previous generations had, albeit they were different stresses. Men at war is not new and I speak with a degree of experience in this, and for many generations in my direct family.

Poverty, well that isn't exactly new, neither is infidelity so why is it that some parents believe that have rite to conceive children and then kill them?? Maybe they think that they own the children but as parents we do not own children anymore than we were produce them and then hope that they stay in our lives but we cannot simply expect this.

Maybe some people do not understand how hard it can be to bring up children and I do not mean only financially.

Well I guess I should stop ranting because I do not want to upset anyone so I leave now and will add these dear young people to my special time each day and send them some prayers and thoughts.

My thoughts and prayers are for the children and their other relatives and their friends.

Wonder why these tragic things are happening more now, maybe because close family isn't always around or too busy to help out?
The stresses of life these days, which won't become less the way things are going, seem to put a lot of pressure on people from all walks of life and causes them to do dreadful things.
May the little ones rest in peace, and the parents left behind find support and comfort from those around them.

In this case I'm not sure that the parents were separated; it sounds more like the dad just worked abroard.

I do not know Ann, but with the years it appears to have become more tragic. Feel so sorry for gparents and other parent, families and friends.

Regardless of what the reasoning is behind it I always think, how can you be a parent and do that? You have to be seriously, seriously disturbed.

died in suspicious circumstances that makes 8 in the past 12 days. The others - all were killed by a parent who was separated. Do not know about these little mites.

It seems as if it is a case of 'I can't have them, you won't have them'. And so it goes on - these children unfortunately are not the first and surely won't be the last.
