Oh poor you Huia, shame Phil wasn't very responsive at your visit.

I hadn't realised it was so long that you had the scabies, times flies by. Maybe things you can't wash could be put in strong plastic bag and frozen to kill the blighters off. I hope you can get clear of it totally very soon. What about your mattress, could you have that steam cleaned?

Thank you for your wishes everybody. I visited Phil this morning, but he didnt want to open his eyes. He was offered a drink and the carer put it up to his mouth but he resisted. We asked him if he wanted a banana but he didnt reply. I didnt stay for more than half an hour.

Liz, I caught scabies about a year ago, long before I started at the hospice shop. I probably got it from Phil. The home did treat everybody when they found a couple of the residents had it. I think the treatment I used last year just didnt work and it has continued all this time. I hope the new treatment works. I cant stand another year of the itching and scratching. Phil doesnt seem to be itchy and I was studying his hands, as far as I could see them today and they looked ok, so I presume he doesnt have it. The home does take it seriously. I had told them last week that I had it and wouldnt be holding his hands any more in case I gave it to him again, or he gave it to me. Perhaps I didnt do a good enough job of washing clothes etc last year and keep getting reinfected at home. As soon as the weather turns fine again I will put everything out to air, and in the meantime anything that can go into the clothes drier on high will go in for the heat treatment, or be ironed, but I am not sure how to treat some things.

Hi Huia, hope your plans work out and Phil is/was bright and not sleepy when you see him.

Just had a thought, do you think the scabies comes from something at the hospice shop or did you get them before you started working there? I can't remember, but I do think if Phil or the home have them and that's how you get them, then they should be doing more to eradicate them. Does Phil seem to be scratching himself when you visit? It's such a shame you have to put up with such a problem, and hope you can get on top of the washing etc and get rid of the horrible little beasties.

I am hoping to visit him briefly in the morning, as I am working in the Hospice shop in the afternoon, but I wont be holding his hand as I dont want to give him scabies again or catch it from him again. I hope I can get rid of the little bar stewards permanently. I have spent the last 3 days washing clothes and bedclothes and getting them dry in the sun. It is supposed to be raining tomorrow and the next few days so at least I get a break from washing. I just have to keep the washed things separate from the unwashed. What a business it is. I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.

Huia not itching quite so much now.

March 21st is the 52nd Anniversary of Huia and Phil's Wedding.
