I filled my census form 27/03/2011, online. On finishing I commented to my wife about the questions not asked, that would help future "tree builders" trace us. What questions would you find useful and should we submit them as viable proposals for the next census?

read somewhere that its been mooted that there wont be any more census.

methinks they cant really keep track of people (that shouldnt be here), anyway, there are so many ways to keep (hidden) off the lists........


any way the makeup of this latest one suggests its only a fact finding exercise rather than on previous censusi

At the Scotland v Brazil football match in London on Sunday about half the spectators were Brazilian, who I am sure did not come for this friendly match.
I wonder how many were included in the Census?

At the England v Ghana match at Wembley about half the spectators were Ghanaian who again I am sure did not come for this friendly. How many of them would be included in the census?

well iv tried to make it easy for my gggggggrankids to trace theire roots i had a mass family get together all the kids and grankids under 1 roof just so we could all be on the same census form now thats forward thinking

How about a married woman's maiden name? I would have found that helpful in searching early censuses for some of my ancestors siblings.

As mentioned, it is unlikely there will be another census after this one. You also need to remember that the main purpose of the census is to provide information and statistics to help with planning and allocation of public resources over the next ten years.

The provision of genealogical information for the future ranks pretty well near the bottom of the list of priorities.

The visitors from other countries will be included in this census. The hotels, boarding houses, B&Bs or the relatives with whom they were staying on the day of the census would, by law, have to include them.

Thanks for responding, yes, the huge numbers of people whom in this country probably not legal.
Brenda great idea 'big' family gathering so everybody is on, there's bound to be one cynic who points out how in one foul swoop, you mucked up several statistics.
As for there no being another census, I think there will be but totally online no paperwork and probably then each computer will have a GPS tag so some details on the residence/owner will be embedded.
Along with loads of other information, look back 10yrs telephones were just press button and talk, now! They do everything bar the washing up, so the ‘micro/credit card/ computer/phone/TV/audio-visual player’ will be the “Identity card”?
As for my original comment, Huia, yes mother’s maiden name, how about grandparent’s names.

Did someone say that the contents of the Census helps the Government to plan for the future concerning pensions; hospitals; housing; transport; etc?

This idea hasn't worked so far.

Some things in the last census were helpful, but could add

Full registered names and where born. (name of hospital/village/town etc)
Name of and where last (or current) place of full time education
Number of children born to a female (as per 1911)
Parent's place of birth (could be country)
If born not in UK, but permanent resident, the year settled in the UK.
Age at first legal marriage/civil partnership
Number of years married
If divorced, when.

Mind you, if they were included on a statutory census, it could be considered really intrusive!

Hi folks, good comments, I like the US additives.
As for not taking notice to improve, pensions, hospitals, housing, transport etc. If the census included more information, as opposed to stopping altogether, just maybe somebody with b***s might take notice and do something.
