just back on the boards, so apologies for the delay in replying. Maggiewinchester, Kay, Lindsey, P.S.Diamond, JoyBoroAngel, flying doctor & P.Holly, thank you all for your replies, and all your helpful hints and advice. I did wonder about a anti mate spray, but I think we'll keep her in for the 3 weeks, just to be safe, we walk and run around the garden with her on a lead. My oh say he thinks she's got PMT, (some days she well behaved, others, she's a right little madam, can't do anything with her)!! We phoned the guy running the puppy training class last week and he said for goodness sake don't bring her to class, we won't be able to do any training with her or the other dogs!! It'll be chaos. We going to ring the vets on monday to get a date for Poppy to be spayed.
Many thanks again, for all your help and advice.

.At least you know she is mature. Sometimes problems can arise if the bitch is spayed before her first season. I would keep her in as dogs have scent glands in their feet and if she wees while out she will also leave a scent trail. Keep an eye on her while she is in the garden, even if you are well fenced. Bitches will try to find a mate as well as dogs. Just remember that a dog can pick up a scent 100,000 times better than we can with our noses, just look at tracker dogs. Elaine.

years ago we had some ex gyspy neighbors
and they bought a female doberman that cost a fortune
it had one of the best pedgrees in the country
he build a 7 foot fence to keep her safe
only when she was in season he come home to find
our old alsation dog who was welll past his sell by date
keeping her right cosy
to his horror
anyway he thought he would still take her to be lined by a dog of equal standards
hoping that she never caught with our old dog

but low and behold every pup all 12 of them looked the double of my old dog
good job we got on well it was the laugh of the neighbor hood

so be careful with your bitch hun love will always find a way

A woman who used to look after my dog if we went away told me to use cheap perfume or old perfume I didn't like anymore and spray it on my dog, not on delicate bits but anywhere near her read end on fur as it would put dogs off her scent. I did try it once and it worked but then had her spayed.
I remember my Dad getting some spray called Amplex? when our dog at home was in season, can almost still smell it as I type. Our dog was never 'caught' and I don't think she was ever spayed either, we had her till she was about 11 and got poorly.

That spray dont work too well,,it smells of lemons,,,,,,,once you take her outside your gate she will leave a scent and any stray old dog will sit there for days,,,,,,also you will carry the scent,,:}}}}}}
3 weeks is about the time it takes to keep her home,,,in the garden..

also wash your gate posts down with a weak bleach or every dog will leave his card there,}}}}

You can buy anti-mate spray, which you spray around her nether regions. May be useful when she's in the garden - to stop any marauding males invading - also means you can take her for a walk!!

Michael2, Muffyxx & JoyBoroAngel, Just wanted to thank you all for your replies and help, it's very much appreciated. we've decided to take your advice and keep Poppy away from the training classes (we've paid for the month), but we'll go along so we can see what we're suppose to be doing with her, so we can practice in the garden.
Many thanks again for your help.

best to keep her in till her seasons finished
she would get to much unwated attention from the male dogs at the training club
you could practice her training late at night when theres no dogs about
while she is safely on the lead just to keep it up

i would not take her to puppy classes until she has finnished as you would has all the males sniffing her wait until she is finnish it only takes one second for a male to have his wicked way.

Many of you on here will remember we got a Cav. King Charles puppy a while ago, and many of you have offered me good advice in the past, I'm hoping someone can help now. Poppy is now 8 months old, we started at puppy training classes last tuesday, on friday she came into season. We had hoped to get her spayed before this, she was at the vets only a couple of weeks ago and the vet says she was okay. My question is can I still take her to the training class tomorrow evening? and when is it safe to take her out? (she's always on a lead).
Many thanks,

ShelleyRose x
