Hi Everyone,
My OH is thinking of getting Family Tree Maker 2006, - he's interested in how good the charts print out, and wondered if anyone has got this? It's on offer in a well known supermarket M-------n's very cheaply.
Many Thanks,

ShelleyRose x :-)

Hi Shelley
Yes i have the 2006 version and love it !! I mostly print out the genealogy report but did print out a relationship report too for relations in Canada whose mum was the daughter from my maternal grandfather's first marriage. It was very easy to follow.

Although still a good program for its time, FTM 2006 is now obsolete and looks rather dated.

It was replaced by a brand new prgram, FTM 2009, which itself has been upgraded twice, to the latest incarnation, FTM2011. FTM 2012 is due out in September.

FTM 2011 has a library of around 30 fully customizable charts and reports plus a facility to create your own professional looking Genealogy Book containing charts, reports, text, pictures and images.

That does sound good!! can I just load the newer version and it copies over all the info from the 2006 . I have a very big tree on the 2006 and wouldnt want to lose it. i do save it from time to time on a memory stick but it would still be the old version if I wanted to reload it

I just logged onto that book site in the Brazilian jungle. If you look up as I did FTM 2011. ( GBP 29.99 at the moment) they have a chat area where you will find some useful info and 68 reviews

Can anyone advise whether loading a newer version of FTM will carry over the info already on the PC on FTM 2006 version

Hi, I have just bought FMT 2011 Platinum Edition with 6 months premium membership to Ancestry. All my family tree's I had on 2010 have transferred perfectly to 2011.

I originally had 2005 or 2006 and tree's transfered to 2010 fine.

I am sure Hubby only paid £34 for the 2011 from A**z*n.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jenny ,thats very reassuring .Whilst i love the 2006 version I can see from comments that the newer versions are superior ,which one should expect i suppose .
I already have Ancestry but it wouldnt hurt to tag on an extra 6 months subs,

i think i paid around £35+ when i bought the 2006 one but it had additional discs that I have never used.

Will keep an eye open for any bargains .

Thanks again

Shirley

Many thanks for the info - whilst I'm happy with FTM 2006, I think I'll put the updated version on my birthday wish list. At that price, it's a shame not to!!!!

Shelley
if you are thinking of starting with FTM and the 2006 is a bargain price I would go for it as its a good programme

Thanks to everyone who's responded to my original query, some very interesting comments, my OH is still undecided on the 2006 version, but it does seem adequate for our needs at present.
