My glorious, wonderful move

UzziAndHerDogs Report 5 Sep 2011 20:01

Now I know this may be getting a tad tedious but hopefully this is it for at least 4 years.

We had a great start to the move as our landlady had agreed to let us have the keys from the 26th but not start the rental until the 1st when we would officially move in. The start got even better when on the morning of the 22nd we were handed the keys and told all yours. YIPEEEEEE this meant we had an extra 3 mornings to play with. So each day in-between OH’s working hours we packed up 1 side and carted it across to the next house. Then OH swopped a shift .okay this meant him working on the Sunday but now gave us an extra day at the start of his mini move break. By Wednesday morning it was all moved over ..admittedly all in a heap in the middle of floors but all there, so we said what the eck grabbed the mutts and took ourselves over there also. I now had the joy of trying to make some space in the van whilst OH opted to do a final clean down the old place, before coming over to help. The kitchen got sorted and the bed got made and I cleared the floor area of the living room. Mind bags and boxes just got stashed away in corners and cupboards to start with.
OH said what’s in this case mmm shoes I replied heading in the opposite direction “All shoes” I heard, “yes” I squeaked offering coffee or cold drink, hoping to distract his attention from the extremely large offending suitcase, whilst at the same time trying to remove a tote bag from the vicinity that also contain ..........yes shoes, so I like shoes ! lol
By 9.30pm we were both shattered and it was time to get a take-away and call it a day. “leave those bags of bedding and towels outside” said me “they won’t come to any harm” They are big storage zipper bags so I reckoned a night out was okay.
Finally we got to bed ..what bliss the matteress is so deep and comfy after sleeping on what now seems like a board but uhhuh down point no bedside lamps or even switches near the bed. Most surprising as this van has been renovated with permanent living in mind. Still a minor thing OH can stub his toes in the dark till we shop.

1.45am or there abouts as no clock as yet in bedroom and it was still mega dark ......and I was cosy....what do I hear but pit a patter pit a patter the first rain in months. Lololol Not impressed even less impressed when I discovered in the morning that the storage bags managed to get small tears in them whilst being moved. I have today being Monday just got to the end of washing and drying it all.

Thursday 1st September Move Day. ......

I sent hubby round to hand the keys back to the old place.
You know you sometimes get that little sad feeling when saying goodbye to your old home? Well I checked my sad monitor and do you know what ...not a thing, not even a single drop of moisture nor the wish to wander back there and look about the empty shell. nothing nada just a huge sigh of relief. I still haven’t bothered going that way yet.
Today was the day to drag the shed out and put it all back neat and tidy including the things that spent the night outside. We got loads done and was rather chuffed with ourselves especially as we have to work around 2 mutts. Pizza for tea..another blow as the oven here isn’t up to scratch ..well the temp knob fell off when I moved it and cooking the pizza it doesn’t seem to heat high enough. I will persevere with it for a short while mind I did look on line for combi microwave ovens, I used to have one before and loved it, one now would solve not only the oven problem but a space one also as at the moment the oven is sat on the miccy and isn,t really that ideal. Have found one for £270 but of course it’s in the UK still it gives hubby an idea what we will be looking for when the time comes. No oh this is cheaper it will do stuff in this home I want it right.

Friday morning an early start and we cleared out for the morning so that a mate could get to the steps to make us some new ones. The shopping trip was an absolute waste of time and very disappointing but the steps are wonderful and very cheap as we used the wood from our old fence 2 homes ago! We also discussed using the rest of the wood to close in the gazebo and decided it would it wood be okay for the sides but not for the decking as there isn’t enough with what’s left. M has some clear plastic he has acquired from some job which will do the sides and be sold to us cheap. Now all we need is the roof etc and that is my outside room sorted. YEAHHH no more wet coats inside, mind better not cheer yet as it’s not done.
The rest of Friday and Saturday was taken up with emptying bags and boxes (not the suitcase or the tote) as my shoe rack isn’t up yet.
Sunday we trundled off to the market ..That reminds me of Nellie the elephant packed her trunk and trundled off to the jungle ..sorry side tracked there.
As I was saying Sunday we offed it to the market. No need to go too early I said as the Spanish have gone home and the winter dwellers haven’t arrived. Wrong words of wisdom there it was heaving by 9.30am. Still we had a reasonable shop in there and called at the ferrets (ferreteria it’s like an ironmongers) and found 3 things on our list all in one nice smart looking thing lol I wanted a dish for cloths a shelf and a kitchen roll holder and this is all three which sits over the sink.
(I also ended up buying some new knickers and a swimming cossie that wasn’t on the list) but called it a day because it was too packed to have the mutts underfoot.
Then there was a bonus ......a new Todo shop (like Poundland I guess) so we sauntered in there...complete with mutts and staggered out of there 55euros lighter with a range of amazing things that we need. The perfect narrow bin, cushion covers (cheap and pretty) bedside lamps, under bed storage bags and wardrobe shelves and lots more besides ..I almost crossed off my need to buy list for the days shopping so although we were out for nearly 4hrs it was 4 hrs well spent.

Sadly OH phoned in to work for his shifts and today and tomorrow he is on splits which means he goes to work at 11.30am and I don’t see him again until 12.15am ..
Still that means that I have emptied the case of shoes today and put them in my shoe hanger .very smart it is .it’s actually a soft toy hanger which drops from the ceiling with compartments, which I picked up at a car boot for a euro a few years ago with shoes in mind. I have all 3 under bed bags filled but need more (they only had 3). I’ve done loads of washing today, walked the mutts umpteen times as little ‘un has a dodgy tummy.
Now I think I have earned myself a well deserved rest and a very large glass of vino.

Oooo hang on, hang on and there’s more, because it wouldn't all fit on 1 page !
..Neighbours diagonal are absolutely fantastic, when we were carrying the outside boxes round she smacked me lol and put her son in my place and sent him round to get the larger one also. They also have a dog who shouts so no worries there. It’s quite funny because we walk past and I hear Hola from behind the hedge and as we get to the corner there she is having a quick smoke waving away to us. Mind I don’t think they are here all year, if they are then I have a feeling Spanish lessons are on the cards. Straight opposite us. Mmm well they seem okay although they are the ones that we were told would complain about the dogs barking. So far the dogs have only barked at their child when he was trying to talk to them thro’ the gate. Oh and at him on his quad..they don’t like quads. But as said they seem okay tend to stay behind their fence and I don’t think they are all year livers. They have relies 2 doors down from them who use next door to us (belonging to our landlady) for their car when nobody is in there and they have a little grey poodle. Mini loves little grey poodles but this one just shouts at her but we all laugh so that’s okay. (Guess we all laugh because if you can’t converse what else do you do)
So far my right-hand neighbour who is English and OH knows is not yet back. They used to rent out usage on their sky dish to the previous occupants of this van for a 10e a month. Not sure how they will feel when we say that the chances are we will buy a second hand dish (I sold 3 18mths ago). We’ll see.
To the left, are 2 rental vans belonging to landlady and family so will probably be empty most of the winter also.

Good to hear you are settling in well and starting to get the place the way you want it, Uzzi. Nice to have good neighbours too and hope it will all stay hunky dory!
Shame about the bags of things getting wet but hey, it was only rain, could have been a lot worse.

I do hope you will be really happy in your new abode - not sure we can cope with you moving any time soon lol

Take care,
love

I'm glad I've visited, so I can picture it all. Have you got a garden area in the new place?

UzziAndHerDogs Report 6 Sep 2011 12:06

Wend yes we have a garden area. complete with soil and watering system , mind it's over neglected at the moment the van being empty for nearly a year. So we need to re-evaluate it all in the coming months ..Oh I could do with you here and your garden know how. You know me I can't tell a weed from a plant :-D.
At the moment we have a grape vine growing across the pagoda which I don't want to lose but it's so in the way for when we want to close that area in. There is bushes and plants and no manner of things about plus all of mine that came over with me. What we are going to do is dig it all up nearly and re-plant what we want (I think :-D )
we are only 1 road back but to the top end ......did I show you? I will post pics on FB when it's done so don't hold your breath !
