had a meeting with Laddos principal this week and one of things I said wasnt happy about was the fact they only get half hour for lunch and he doesnt always get lunch as the queues are too long and he wont wait in thema s thinks he will be late for next lesson.

Principal said most schools have cut breaks down so they are unsupervised for shorter time as thats when trouble is and also said work places dont have an hour anymore.

Lissy gets over an hour at college for lunch and her boyfriend gets 3/4 hour at work.

how long does everyone else get.

Hello Dawnie

When my son was in secondary school lunch break was 50 minutes, now at college he gets 45 minutes.

The primary school where I work as playground supervisor, Reception/KS1 get 1 hour 15 mins and KS2 get 1 hour

even 45 mins would be better how can they get all the children who want hot meals served and them have time to eat and enjoy it rather than wolf it down in 30 mins?

Do you know any other parents? What do they think?

Our local one has 40 mins for lunch + 20 min morning break.

Their school day is 8.40-4.00, but 8.40-1.50 on a Wednesday.

If Laddo has a 'specific need', perhaps he could be accompanied to the front of the queue? Having worked with an ASD lad who was fixated with time and schedules, ways and means can be put in place, even if they are gradually withdrawn when the student is more settled. After all, the move to 'Big School', assuming this is the case, is a tremendous upheaval.

30 minutes is not long enough to queue and eat 2 courses. It's a shame your son is sometimes not getting all his lunch.

It seems that the Principle is looking at cutting her budget for supervisory staff. Perhaps you can take it to the School Governors for their consideration.

His tutor last year want happy about it and principal has said if anyone is still eating when bell goes they are allowed to stay and eat which he has told laddo so he will queue from now on.
Other parents not happy but dont seem to be bothered with saying anything.

Is his last year so not long to go but with all the media coverage on child obesity etc doesnt seem right that they are made to rush their meal and no wonder a lot of them stock up on rubbish at shop on way to school and eat it at lunchtime.

Ours arent allowed out either at luncthime. He also starts at 8.40am but finishes at 3.25 no early finishes though.

Maybe you could have a word with the canteen manager, gone are the days when the "free" kids queued separately as it singled them out [not PC] perhaps she would allow him to jump the queue.if you explain he's missing meals.

They will be getting paid for him if he eats or not .
