How many of us have posted messages on the boards and then just forget about them until someone finds it and adds a reply?

Is the thread still relevant or is it just taking up a space on a board? Do GR keep all posts forever? Should threads be deleted automatically after a certain peroid of time or should members be asked to review their threads from time to time and remove them if no longer relevant?

I personally think we should be asked to review our threads, possibly annually. Any one agree or have other views about this?

I can't see any reason for deleting threads.

id be there forever if i delted all my post n threads,

i dont think they hurt being "out there" and some are brought back up when needed, like if somone has asked advice that others have asked before, the old thread can be nudged up for future reference,

I just looked at a thread that was started in 2007 which was asking for info everyone who had given info has since deleted ??? what is the point of that?

I spent hours deleting all those posts that had my real name on them. After that I haven't bothered.

Jax, I know some people delete info which is incorrect or duplicated and that's fair enough but, when people delete because they are niggled about something - which does happen, I find it rather odd too.

I agree that there is no real reason to delete any of the threads we have participated in as they do, occasionally, come in handy as has already been said.

Marc, when someone posts a thread, it is to be hoped that they stay around and keep an eye out for responses, not go away and forget about it!

New members don't always realise how quickly replies can come back to them and, if it takes them a while to realise how the boards work then its good that the thread with its advice, is still there to help them.

This particular thread the poster was thanking each person by name...in the end she was talking to herself.

I only looked at it to see if she had been given the info before as she had asked about the same surname today

I do not understand you reply Rita?

You are saying A thread should be left, but if you have replied delete it if you want???

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 16 Sep 2011 17:31

Only the person who started the thread can delete the whole thread.

I know what you mean jax, it makes the poster look silly if all the replies are deleted. Lala land! Cx

With the long running chat threads, then yes I would say do what you want.

I would say 3000 of my posts are on a chat thread and there is no way I would go through the lot and delete my posts.

What I am talking about are the threads on Finding ancestors, when actual info has been looked up and posted and then deleted some time later when it could come in handy for the future if the same question comes up again.
