Because I am stuck here as a carer I would like to take some sort of course to stop my brain dying completely.

I have thought about doing an A level but they are about £400 a throw.GCSEs are about £125 I think and I am not entitled to any concessions. There is a class in Horsham once a week that I probably would enjoy but the organization for me to get there would be ridiculous.

There is a course offered by the NEC for nothing to carers. Guess what, it is only about caring!

Nothing doing in local education venues in the Adult Education programme?....or in your library?

OH has signed up for Polish near here.

Might be worth a look.

Sharon,
Do you have any idea what you would like to do. Do you want to learn more about caring, or are you seeking something different.

I feel sad that you feel "stuck here as a cared" as carers are sorely needed and can climb the ladder to very good and well paid positions.

Some years ago I went to several different night glasses to discover what I liked to do snd what I wanted to do. Everything from learning a new language to craft work is available and at a reasonable cost.

I hope you find something which grabs your attention.

Good luck

Ah, let me explain. I do not work as a carer who can rise to any position.
I am paid benefits to be at home with my dad, thus saving the cost of residential care.

I am bored. Going anywhere requires precision planning. He has carers come in for his personal care but I need to hoist him on to the bed for his rest and many other things. Being on benefit means I do not receive a great amount of money but I must pay full price for any course I do because we are not in receipt of the particular benefits that would trigger a concession. I have to pay for prescriptions for myself too.

The Newcomen Society looks interesting to me.Have toyed with the idea of joining before. It would give me access to it's papers and get me out sometimes.

Thank you for your interest Bridget.

Morning Sharron.....
Do you drive and can your OH take over if you are out??

What about photography...but then it will cost you, but why not just take it up with out a course, but then you have to like photography first:)
Something l have often thought about is searching the charity shops for old photo's and albums, especially those with info on and hopefully returning them to family members!!:)
Another thing is collecting bits and bats and selling them on ebay:)

Take care

Thank you Jude.

I am not really looking for interesting little things to do. I seem to be able to do that and have carefully avoided selling anything anywhere. I hate car boots and anywhere else things are traded.

My brain needs a bloody good hiding really. I am doing my bit of mediaeval which,I might add, is not being written up because there is no deadline.

What I really need is an A-level to get a bit of mental discipline back. There is always tomorrow at the moment and I am stagnant!

Well.it interests me but I don't mention it down the pub. It is not really something you drop into conversation.

I have a hot date with somebody who is interested and , of course, have been three months in organizing that!

When I was working I fitted things into little spaces in my diary. Now it is full of great big spaces I don't know where to put things.

Anyway, I can't write it up yet, the research is ongoing, she says!

How about researching something interesting about your area (or anywhere) then writing it up as a really good article and getting it published in the local paper.

Actually, researching anything on the internet that interests you is keeping your brain engaged.

Hello Sharon

get in touch with your dads social worker and tell them you would like a carer's grant .
This is just for carers to do something for themselves

I've been trying to find courses to learn Italian and German and there are some available on-line with weekly lessons. So you'd have a deadline to keep to ...
