Part of me thinks they should film court cases
a sort of threat of naming and shaming
might make people think twice about commiting crime

But part of me thinks no its wrong

What do you think ???

thank you to everybody for their imput

I don't agree with Sky's push for the filming of court cases.

I don't think it will help with justice being done. It may be o.k. if the cameras were there and recorded every case because I think most viewers would get bored with the minor, petty cases. However I think that Sky would just want to concentrate on the big, salacious cases and I really can't see that helping to give anyone justice - it would just be Sky's attempt to boost their viewing figures.

Perhaps if they do decide to video court cases we just might see how some of the judges arrive at some of the sentences they hand down.

I think that all the witnesses in any case videoed should not be shown, to maybe avoid any reprisals, also whoever is on trial should also not be shown.
That would alleviate any witch hunt that so often is seen, some people like to say guilty before all the known facts are given, have seen similar situations on here in the past.

Joy ,after the most recent media fiasco involving a mother and her murdered child, she walked away with a slap on the wrist and time served, I would have to say in my opinion, the jury was influenced by the sheer onslaught of information true or false,so in the interest of due process I would say the media needs to stay away...

No I don't think they should for a start as its been already suggested would the accuse get a fair trial ?and secondly some of the evidence discussed during court cases is not always suitable for TV viewing and then a lot of the legal jangling during is often boring and lastly there will be always some sad sacks that WILL commit crimes to get their 15mins of fame on TV.

Did jury service back in the 1990's

Got eventually to sit on one case which was boring and then got thrown out as they decided the wrong person was being charged. Only lasted about 30 mins.

I would have to say no to showing cases on TV

well i am still unsure
part of me says yes and part says no way
do you think they would only show
the guilty cases or both guilty and innocent
i have sat in on many cases as they are open to the public
and have agreed with the jury on most cases but not all

StrayKitten

StrayKitten Report 19 Sep 2011 14:44

i think no, firstly because, just because they are in the dock doesnt mean there guilty, people have been wrongly convicted, ame as people have been found not gilty when they are, but mud would stick,

i also think it would thro danger to jury members against vigilanty attacks by the acused familys, as it would for the witness',

also to many personal details are said in some cases,

altho from an entertainment point of veiw yes lol, i love true cirme programmes,

i love crime shows to but most are fiction
and i did watch the OJSimpson case with baited breath
and the Michael Jackson case

Sharron

Sharron Report 19 Sep 2011 19:07

If the case was shown on television we would, at least, know the outcome whatever ir was.

A man I know was quite wrongly accused of being a paedophile by an attention seeking child and her mother. There was no doubt about this at all and it was revealed and dealt with at the hearing.

His arrest and committal were reported in the local paper but his acquittal never was.

I would say a definite no. I think it is enough that police put relatives on show when someone has gone missing. I think it is sometimes used as a means of watching the body language of the person making the appeal, I won't give any examples on here but I am sure we all can recall some guilty persons appeal. They have to put the innocent with the guilty and that is what a court is about.
The justice system has its flaws but it could be worse and thousands of viewers wouldn't improve the situation

On a lighter note does anyone watch Judge Judy ? - jl

JoyBoroAngel Report 19 Sep 2011 20:03

yes janet i watch judge judy
i think she is very funny
round here they say she would send her own kids down
for not doing their homework
how awful Sharron
so in his case it would of benifited him for it to be shown

but in most cases i think
most people are saying its not a good idea
to show cases on tv

I have never really been able to get my head around why, if they do not let cameras in the courts, then why are artists' drawings allowed and shown on the TV?
