Since I was so ill my skin is paper thin and I have just done it again - still being a bit dozy when I got up I knocked against door handle and skin has peeled back like an orange - about 1" square - when OH sees it I shall get an earful about being more careful.

Not quite that Chris. But I do get small purple patches on my arms, for seemingly nothing.
Also, the skin on my legs, has become more flakey. I am a type 2 diabetic,so they were normally abit flakey, but much worse now.
When in hospital, they come with those TET stockings, I refuse them, as they exaccerbate the dry skin. I always opt for the stomach injection at 6.00 each night.

I was in there so long Julia - they stopped the injections last few weeks - apparently I was fully covered. I also get those purple spots over hands and arms and the flaky skin on carpet my side of bed each morning!!!

It is great to grow old!!!!! Mind you it is better than the other option!

My skin is paper thin too, caused by steroids (& old age?). I often rip skin off my hands but I try to quickly slap it back into place and plaster it. So far have been lucky and it has healed quite quickly leaving only a scar. I also get the purple patches for no reason at all other than I have probably knocked myself without realising it. Flaky skin too, like a snowstorm. Ah well, such is life.

Champneys Spa Indulgence (exotic retreat body cream) - was given this in August on my last visit - still using it - obtainable in Boots think it is about £10 but a large jar. Prior to that used Doves and many nurses said that they used that themselves.

Both of these body cream sink in quickly but do prefer the Champneys.

I am on steroids orally now as well as inhalers and Lord only knows what is in the other 12 pills daily!!!

Kay???? Report 29 Dec 2011 13:33

best thing for dry flakey skin

warm Olive Oil ...try it and see youll be amazed in a week the condition of your skin.....cosmetic creams and stuff have too much almond oil and agents in them and that can increase flaked skin.like lipsticks known fact reactions dry and sore lips is sometimes the almond oil in them.

Never thought of that Kay and I should have - as I used to use olive and oil and sugar to get hands soft and clean after decorating etc. Thank you

Hazel when you have had shower and still wet use baby oil (cheapest you can get). My skin has improved only seem to 'peel' on back of hands or lower arms now.

But must say do like the Champneys!!!
