Had to empty the book case in the lounge prior to decorating this weekend. Found about 6 or 7 lovely big reference type books so took them down to the library to see if they could use them. Since they shut a lot of the libraries and handed them to the parishes to be run by volunteers they have been told they can't accept book donations until they have the correct 'machine' (her words not mine). So now I shall have to lug them into town to a charity shop. I would much rather they had been available for local people to borrow.

There may be some local Old Folks' Home that would like them Ann, pr even a local children's home or school library.

They are very heavy large books Liz, I think they would be too big for a lot of elderly people and too 'old' for children. Nevver mind the charity shop will be glad of them, the save the children shop are always asking for books.

What a waste isn't it, trying to help the tax payer.
