Sorry cant find the previous thread. Well we went to the hospital yesterday and he had an extensive evaluation. The neurosurgeon said that although he does have some Parkinsons type symptoms his overall presentation isnt typical of Parkinsons. He is going to have more tests including a brain scan but if comes back as normal then she thinks he has developed some dementia and will refer him on to the dementia clinic who have more knowledge of how he can be helped to cope . We aren't talking .for the moment, alzheimer's but must be prepared that he may go that way eventually.

Sort of a good diagnoses and bad one too . he has problems one way or the other.

Off out now to do the weekly shop !!

As you say, good and bad news, hopefully it will be easier to deal with when you know exactly what you are both dealing with. Always somebody on here to chat to.

Thanks folks Shopping took longer than usual then we had visitors.

I, am fine thanks Puss
At the moment OH only has short memory lapses although he is also unsteady on his feet.
I did make a list of everything i had observed on his general behaviour like hand shakes & twitches , his slow walking etc Plus i did mention that he can be quite nasty to me sometimes which isnt really him as he has always been a mellow nice man. Was told that personalty changes can occur with dementia I have tried to make allowances but sometimes it gets to me and I snap , Guess that's a foretaste of things that may come too.

We will take each day/month as it comes now.

Well he had a DAT scan for Parkinson but it didn't show any Parkinson damage.had a head MRI scan on the 30th April and only JUST got the copy letter sent to our GP. He has brain cell volume loss which is most marked in the left temporal lode. Googling for this says the left temporal lobe does govern memory speech hearing sight etc . Well he does have hearing problems in both ears and tinnitus. he has hearing aids. He also has vision problems and loss of sight in the left side area. He doesn't do well visionally when passing parked cars gets too close and nearly clips the wing mirrors.

His results are he has dementia of Alzheimer type and has been referred to a memory clinic.

I have Googled what has been reported and have told him but reassured him he doesn't have Alzheimer. Thats not to see it wont develop into that but am not telling him that. He is a really quiet guy who you would think has no worries but I know after nearly 55 years of marriage and know he is a guy who worries inwardly.

I hope we have many years left where he can function adequately.

I just now have to persuade him he really needs to stop driving before he has an accident or causes someone else to have an injury. He is in denial at the mo on his driving. Maybe when his insurance is due or the memory clinic stops him he will accept it. He is a good driver but I have become a really bad back seat driver when I am in the car cos I can see near misses

Thanks Lorraine. We don't know when we are in our prime what lies ahead. I have always been very fearful of cancer as its been a presence in both side of our family.
I also used to to say I hope I don't go doo dally dip!! but really didnt think my OH would have problems. I guess we can only hope.

My mum ,who was a funny lady, used to say"its not the cough which carries us off but the coffin that carries us off in !!) we used to laugh at lots her old sayings.

I hope that my OH can function now OK for many years and I can cope with what may be around the corner. He really is my best friend as well as my hubby. we met when I was 18+ and married 2 years later

Sorry to hear this, but at least it wasn't unexpected.

He really ought to stop driving before his hazard perception gets worse - if you can't bring yourself to do it, perhaps his GP or Specialist will do the dirty deed.

OH usually does his bank run on a Tuesday and then we go to the Savacentre on a weds for the weekly shop Its just I dd a big wardrobe clear out and took clothes to the charity shop last week and the this week took another donation ;-)

Nice to see you and your OH.

Will PM you if I need to talk .Thanks

Thanks DET. I hope that when we go to the memory clinic that they may persued him
. He listens to what I say and agrees at that time but then gets all defensive at other times and thinks i am ganging up on him or telling him what to do and gets really down right nasty!! all part of the dementia I think.
His insurance may well not renew him anyway but until we have some real diagnoses then I don't think I can approach his insurance company. At the moment he hasn't been told not to drive
