or do they?

Apparently Gordon Brown has earned £1.4 million since leaving office.

Then he donates all his money from speeches and books to charities
and public service work.

And he has renounced his Prime Ministerial pension.

Can't say the same about Tony Blair.

Guinevere Report 22 Feb 2012 13:21

Or Thatcher or Major.

Decent bloke, Gordon.

Merlin Report 22 Feb 2012 13:28

Decent Bloke My A. should be paying it back to the treasury to cover the loss he made by selling off most of our Gold Reserves in a glorified Boot Sale. Thatcher didnt take a salary, and major was a Backstabbing Dentists delight. :-S

Not hard to renounced his Prime Ministerial pension or give some of his earnings away when he have enough money in the bank to last a life time,

people like Arthur Scargill who never took a wage? whilst the miners where on strike, but still could afford new car's and houses at the time of the strike not to mention the missing 4 million pounds plus from the NUM accounts,

The real heroes who give to charity are those who earn an average wage and below but still give to charity

So none of that impresses me

Porkie_Pie Report 22 Feb 2012 13:54

I would like my pension back too, if thats ok ?

Wonder if we can get our money back using the same system set up for people being mis-sold payment protection plan's by the banks :-D

I like Gordon Brown, I think he tried really hard against a tide of self interest in this country as a whole, and in parliament. He was the only one in any position of power who tried to do something about third world debt having to be paid off at '1st world' interest rates.

Like Obama, he probably would have got more done if he hadn't been opposed, and if global recession hadn't been a factor.

Don't shout at me I have a headache.... but for my money ( yes literally) he was a damn sight better than the current slimey lot, and certainly better than Thatcher whose whole philosophy was built on schmoozing the greedy and and to hell with the needy.

Gosh I'm feeling militant today lol.

Don,t hold your breath Roy.Re Scargill, he,s the bloke who had a big Union and a Little House, ended up with a Bl88dy Big House and a Little Union. and from what I gather is now in the process of sueing the Union for £50 grand. :-S

Without going into a political debate and this being my last word on the subject,

In my life time i have seen both labour and conservatives in power and my take on it is this,

all through my years that we have had labour in power and generally they have always (in my time) inherited a thriving economy when they came to power, and then they have allways been kicked out when through over spending and us as a country being left in massive debt.

The conservatives have allways taken power after the labour government have nearly bankrupted the country and had to sort the mess out,

So it is no surprise that people are always upset with the conservatives for the cuts they have to make,

But with out the cuts we will be bankrupt in no time at all, so if that's what people want i would suggest they go and live in Greece.

Roy

Just for the record i think all politicians are only interested in them selves so i have no loyalty to any party

Rambling Report 22 Feb 2012 14:23

If the Conservatives were so brilliant why , having had a straight 18 years in power ( and in 18 years you would expect them to have had time to 'get it right' ?) was the country so eager to get shot of them ?

My last word too...probably ;-)

Merlin Report 22 Feb 2012 14:25

I,ll second that Roy.Lots of people seem to be in Denyance of the fact that Labour Bankrupted the Country,( We,re living on Credit and have been for some time) Yet the Idiots are borrowing money and giving it away to other Countries. The nutters are definitaly in charge. :-S

I think that the voters like a change, whoever is in power, if they have been in power for 10 years+. I also think that 'party politics' is a spent force, as both lots have promoted policies that are contrary to their original ideals. Everything now is concentrated in the middle ground, everything has to have 'mass appeal'. So base rate tax rises are out, even though it would be the simplest way to raise revenue. Child benefit is sacrosanct and stealth taxes are up and up :-D.

I don't honestly see much difference between them, and don't much care for any of them either :-P

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 22 Feb 2012 15:04

I didn't say Gordon was a good politician, I said he was a decent and sincere bloke.

As Rose said, the Tories couldn't get it right in 18 years and left the country in a dreadful mess, as it was when Labour won the election in '74. It certainly was far from thriving then as well.

No party will ever get it right until the bankers and those who gamble with our currency are brought into line. We are in a deep mess now because of what Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac did in the USA.

Nothing Gordon could do about that. Nothing Cameron could have done either. We need a government with the courage to take on the gamblers and stop them wrecking the economy.
