Libby Report 23 Mar 2012 17:40

My daughter is nearly 18 years of age and already two of her school friends have died .. The first as a result of a horse riding accident last year and one today who died in her sleep, apparently of a heart attack.

So tragic and such a waste.

That is sad - life has a hard learning curve, also in news this week 15 yr old boy playing football/rugby died and saddest in some ways of all a young mum in Winchester gave birth to triplets, collapsed 8 days after birth and has died due to some heart defect brought on by pregnancy. Her widower left with 3 babies to raise.

Your lass must be devastated - I know our gdau was when a friend of hers went speeding once too often - 18 yrs of age also.

It is the silent killer which is the biggest shock and worry.

This is why CRY want to have all young teenager tested for heart problems. I am so sorry for your daughter, she muct be devastated. So hard to cope with at that age. and the poor young girl's family as well. There have been several in this area of about the same age in the past 3/4 years.

It's horrid that she has had to deal with death so young.

My daughter isn't 17 yet but between July 2006 and July 2010 she lost all four grandparents and late 2007 one of her ex-classmates didn't survive an asthma attack during which time she had a heart attack.

I think that we just don't expect young deaths now compared to just a hundred years ago.

Kind thoughts from us to your daughter.

I think back to when I was 13 years old and my best friend died. She had, unbeknown to anyone, what they then called an enlarged heart. I think it may have been similar to what some of these young people die from. She didn't collapse and die but used to get very tired and one day at PE we were made to run round the running track. She told the teacher she couldn't do it she was too breathless. Teacher made her. That night she collapsed and was taken to hospital, a couple of weeks later she died, there was no treatment in 1953 for something like that. I went to see her in hospital and a couple of days later she died. I was devastated and never really made another 'best friend' at school.

Im so sorry to hear of your Daughters friend Libby and and of the losses which have been mentioned. Its always hard for the young when their peers pass on.

My daughter is 20 and two of her year group have died. Its very sad.

Oh Chris that poor young Mum.

The saddest thing about the young friend that died today is that her Dad died of a hear atack on ywo years ago. Her poor Mum.

My daughter has not yet experienced the loss of a family member yet. When she does I think it will hit her very hard. Both of her paternal grandparents are well into their eighties and we are having a family get-together on Sunday for my Mum's 80th.

I'm sorry that your daughter has had to learn such sad lessons so early in life, Libby.

The young people who attended school in my daughter's last year were known as the 'suicide group'. At least 4 young men committed suicide over the following years. Very sad. She also had a friend die of cancer when they were about 32 y.o., another friend badly injured in a car crash and one in jail for drug offences :-(

Somehow I always feel that suicide is so very cruel to those left behind. They will always wonder what if? could I have?

I also recognise the agony of those who took this path.
