Visiting a supermarket around 11.30 am. today - could not believe the queue for petrol - out of grounds and around the roundabout!

It had greatly reduced when we left but still queues for every pump - in this heat OH decided he was not that desperate - had under half a tank.

Panic buying only serves one purpose

It creates shortages where their would normally be none

It's another sign of the selfish i am all rite jack society that we now live in

Really annoying when people panic buy but I can understand it in a way. We don't know that they have not got an important trip to make, got to get to the airport or whatever. We have a journey to daughter planned the week after Easter, then end of April we need to get to Heathrow so we need to keep the car filled up.

AnninGlos, You say you can understand it in a way? Panic buying will just make it harder for those people who do need? to make those important trips to Airports and important planed trips to see a relative.

So i fail to see how you do understand it?

Roy

panic buying is by nature buying some thing you don't actually need at the time you buy it, but just in case you may or may not need it in the future

PP

didn't phrase it very well. What I meant was, I can understand that some of them appearing to be panic buying are actually in need of the fuel for a reason. (I knew what I meant Lol!), as we don't know, we can't judge. But yes some will be buying because they can.

By the way just Ann will do :-)

OK Ann, My post was just to point out my thoughts and add to my other post by way of debating on this thread and nothing more :-D

We needed (as in nearly on the red) petrol yesterday and couldn't understand why there was a constant, longish, queue.

It was only when we heard the news in the evening that we realised why!

Don't under-estimate the commuter's needs; OH used to make daily round trips of 150 miles on the M25. Imagine how much he needed in a week! No work, no pay, no easy public transport at the required times.

Long queues here today too, but as +++DetEcTive+++ says, some need it for work. Many around here work flexi hours , but drive to London each day,...Soon shift some fuel doing that.

Well lets just hope that these selfish people who are (panic) buying leave enough fuel for all those who are in genuine need

because it creates shortages where their would normally be none

It is annoying that the more the media speak about panic buying the more panic buying there will be.

People only have to hear mention there may be a shortage to rush and buy and then it just snowballs! They are already running out of diesel at some places here in the Midlands. I had to fill up with diesel today as I was empty and the first supermarket garage had NO diesel left and the second supermarket had NO diesel at 3 pumps. I suppose the lorries and vans have been filling up with it......as Detective says, it is their livelihood and they daren't risk leaving it when Tom, Dick and Harry are topping up their tanks and causing a shortage.
