I am seriously considering buying an ipad but can't make up my mind if I would use it enough to merit paying the price. My daughter has one and she uses it all the time for work etc and I have to say that the clarity of photo's is brilliant. Has anyone done anything with their family tree using the ipad?

Thanks in advance

Wendy

Hello Wendy

I Highly recommend the iPad, I would be lost without mine, it is easy too use and does everything that you could possibly want.
I was one of the best presents that my husband has ever bought me.

The upgrades are very simple to manage,I would give up my desk top rather than loose my iPad.

As for Family tree I have it downloaded on my iPad, I am sure that your daughter would help to do this.
Let me know how you get one, Good luck

Thanks Bridget, I just wondered if the screen was big enough for working on your family tree. How could I put my FTM onto the ipad, it is on a disk, to download my family tree GEDCOM from GR to . I have a net book which I would pass on to my other daughter.

I need to make my mind up soon as I want to buy it in the UK when I go back at the beginning of July.

Well July
I am no expert but if you explain to the people in the shop where it is bought they will show you. I can only recall that it did not take long nor was it arduous.
Sorry I cannot explain it...I have to wear glasses all the time and I do not have any problems using it...in fact I use it for new recipes etc , do you or your daughter know anyone who could show you just how easy it is. ??

If I can use it anyone can.......

Bridget :-)

Thank you, asking in the shop seems the best thing to do.

Hello TS.....I have one and my daughter has the ipad2'

I rarely use my laptop now it seems so bulky and takes ten times longer to load. The iPad is instant, the apps are numerous am still learning on mine and am addicted to the scrabble app :-D

I purchased mine from currys and they were very helpful also son was with me which was a bonus when they get a bit technical.....I know we decided on the dearest model I think because you can purchase pay as you go sims etc to enable use outside the home.

You will love it.....my daughters friend brought hers back from USA and it was much cheaper :-( :-(

ipads are brill. There's an ancestry ap which will accommodate your family tree if you have it as a gedcom.

I take mine to the records office, libraries, etc - much easier than a laptop and if there is a wireless connection you can go online.

You get the luddites decrying them, but honestly, best thing I've ever bought!

Thank you all, I now have just got to decide which one! Bearing in mind where I live might make a difference

I too love my iPad 2.
The reason I bought it was I spent 3 months n Australia looking after my son and 2 children over their Christmas and long summer holiday. It was an absolute godsend.Saved me using son's computer or taking my lap top.
We use FaceTime a lot and find it better than Skype, and you can move around with it.
I often take a picture of a photo with the camera instead of using scanner.
I now get my Daily Mail on line, play sudoku, use iPlayer etc etc....best thing bought for a long time...and makes PC.'s seem very slow.
Get one!!

One thing to consider if the the iPad doesn't support Flash, so you won't be able to view your tree on this site.

I have an Ipad2 which I bought while on holiday in N.Z. and it is a ton of fun.

You can check your emails with them instead of going on line, check the weather report instead of looking out of the window and read books which you can download either free or pay for cheaper than buying them.

Very useful to take on holiday as you can take photos and download them on to Facebook or an iphone. (My daughter does that I don't) They are well worth the money.
