Can somebody explain to me why are serving personel are being reduced . I may have got it wrong .does our country not warrant protecting .we help so many .training & then get murderd by the same people .we are trying to help, money is sent to so many places as aid .but what about us .they are going to recrute more Tas` these are people in employment who do a fantastic job .but will employers let them have 12months off to have training to maybe go to war zones & how much money is our goverment saving .? sorry we have so many in the services who have given their lives & are still are .their dedication to queen & country makes me so proud .but how many will feel let down .by our goverment, Barbra

Barbra....l don't understand it either and feel the same as you....it should'nt be happening!!

l did hear on the radio but not all of it...someone was saying (an MP, don't know which one) that if this is what the government are going to do then lets also hope they have cash in the pot to deal with a situation if it arises. And something about the last decade, lets hope nothing happens in the next decade!!

It may have been Jeremy Vine show!!

as sorry as i am for the rest of the world, charity begins at home.
Its about time that the government woke up and started to look after the British, not the rest.
Maybe our troops can have the respect and quality of life they deserve

Well I can't comment on government decisions in the UK but I can say that our government have also cut defence spending - and given themselves a nice fat payrise :-(

As part of the whole central and local government spending reviews and subsequent cuts, savings have to be made. Would you rather we cut more from the education and health budgets? All departments need to make cutbacks because of overspending over the past ten years or so. I would rather see a cut in the money we spend on fighting "wars" which are none of our concern and see that money in attempting to prop up our crumbling infrastructure.

Wars have been fought all over the world & our service personel are told to go ,its an insult to the memory of all those who have died & been injured all the cuts its disgusting ,they are worth their weight in gold we wouldnt be here now but for generations of people gone before us .they will be turning in their graves .they were proud & the new generation equally .want to be appreciated & supported .not by this goverment when you look at police forces having to take cuts its a sham .no wonder .people are not happy with the goverment they feather there own nest .look at our banking system .the cock ups & corruption ..there is a lot of waste in the nhs.admin staff instead of doctors & nurses Wont say anymore .think i have made my point

I would rather we cut the aid we send to countries who don't need it or don't spend it wisely, or even don't want it than cut our military power.

It might be a better idea again Errol ,if the government cut back on the civil servants employed by the government in said forces, rather than cutting front line troops[ratio of four front line troops to one civil servant],far too many pen pushers these days, time to pension a few thousand of those people off methinks.

March 2011:
Pakistan could become the UK's biggest aid recipient by 2015.

Plans unveiled by the International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell indicate aid could more than double, reaching £446m ($726m) a year.

September 2011:
Millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money sent in aid to Pakistan is fuelling widespread corruption, according to the man who hopes to become the country’s next president.

Cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan said Pakistan’s current regime is the most corrupt in its history – and stopping British aid is the only way that things will improve.

He said: ‘Unfortunately, aid has been a curse for Pakistan. It is not helping the people, it is disappearing in corruption.

‘It is probably disappearing in Swiss bank accounts, or it’s going into the army. If we have aid which keeps feeding these governments, it’s propping them up. If we don’t have aid we will be forced to make the reforms and stand on our own feet.’

I don't suppose our government (s) will stop funding Pakistan - after all, it's normal for our money to go towards funding swiss banks and corruption - just look at the politicians themselves and the banks!

In my opinion & having been an army wife, I would rather we had 20,000 less, so that some of the money they are paid can be used to help those 82.000 left to be well equipped & trained. The increased number of reservists will be there if needed.

Yes army numbers are less than in the past, but modern weaponry & surveillance has decreased the amount of men needed.

According to the media, the MOD spends too much money on equipment that will never be used, its all in storage, millions of pounds worth of stuff which should never have been purchased just rotting away, its time they got rid of the surplus, and the higher up ranks, they should keep the indians and get rid of the chiefs.there are probably more people employed by the MOD (Civil Servants ) than active fighting troops.**M**. :-S
