Tuesday 25th 9pm BBC1,

A period drama. It has been adapted from Emile Zola's 19th century French novel
Au Bonheur Des Dames.
For the purposes of the TV series the title has been changed to The Paradise and the action has been transplanted from Paris to a city in the north of England but the themes remain the same.Britain's first department store.
Sarah Lancashire and Matthew McNulty star.

Such a shame that is it on a 9pm when on BBC2 there is Vikings and at the same time on 2 other channels there are also programmes that I want to watch.

So even with the +1hr function I still cannot watch this programme.

For some reason the beeb is not repeating on another day.

So although I would have loved to watch this show will not be able to see the first episode. Still they will probably repeat quite quickly. ;-)

Also looking forward to the ITV show about Mr. Selfridge - now there was a character. Lived with or had 2 sisters as mistresses.

Piglets I am so glad that you reminded me about this it was 1 of the things I wanted to download to watch at a later date, as I will be doing about Mr, Selfridge.

By the way if you can´t get to watch them at the time (or record) do what I do and download on the PC

UzziAndHerDogs Report 22 Sep 2012 16:48

Tenerife I can´t get Iplayer so I download on Isohunt and U torrent to be honest I often do that anyway just so I can watch without adverts. Mind you have to watch on a 15inch screen (in my home anyway)

Uzzi if you want to watch iPlayer you need to download expat shield yand then you can get all the iplayers, that's what I use here, other wise it says 'not available in your country'.

Do not use iplayer - do not wish to watch telly via computer. Like to sit in comfort in Living Room to watch telly, not at a desk.

Problem has been solved though, Viking is repeated on Sunday evenings.

I have to use iPlayer at times as it is that or nothing and so I am grateful for it. . I am limited to 4 english programmes on the television

I found this first episode very disappointing. The dialogue was stinted and the musical soundtrack was irritating......... hoping it might improve as I am a great fan of period drama. Will probably record in future in the hope that improves .......even tonight I put it on pause a couple of times, not something I usually do when a program has my full attention.

I had more or less the same reaction as you, Joeva. I really wanted to like it but in

spite of having all the characters and plot lines, , it didn't somehow engage me. I shall watch it again in case I was wrong.

Julia

Julia Report 26 Sep 2012 08:39

I was looking forward to watching this, so we both settled down to watch it. But, I was disappointed in the production of it., ie the sound control.
I did think there was a over suffiet of meaningful glances between some of the characters.
I was aware of 'shop girls' living over the premises, and having a curfew etc., from when doing Social History for A Levels
We'll see what next week's episode brings, but if it hasn't improved, I don't think we will stick with it, which is a disappointment really considering what thay must have lavished on it.

Same here was disappointed in the first episode but
will watch next week to see if it has improved.
Such a shame, great fan of period dramas, some
series need a couple of episodes for me to get into
it.

Piglets Pal
If you have the correct cable you can watch programmes via I player on your TV.

I have to agree with BC and Julia about Paradise. Hopefully it will improve

Does not really matter - will not be bothering to watch after last nights dismal showing.

Think I would rather have seen a proper adaptation of the original than this.
