from 'Rev Peter Popoff', who for a small donation and the return of an envelope with the image of Jesus on. which I "must not open!" assures me that God will cancel all my debts... :-D

I think a certain denomination got quite wealthy and powerful in Middle Ages on the back of indulgences, Rose :-D

Ooooh our Rose, I'd tell him to 'popoff' in the nicest possible way by sticking some stones in the envelope and returning it.

well in case anyone is worried enough to fall for this, may I suggest that assuming God exists and you have faith in him, you will not need to send £20 ( or £12 the rest to be paid when you have it) to Peter Popoff, because if God wants to "erase all your debts" he will do so under his own steam :-D

for the curious the envelope contains a small rubber rectangle with a depiction printed on it of 1 Kings 17:16
"The jar of oil did not run out"

This is one on which a former member of the site and I are in agreement lol,

Strange you should mention this Rose this week I had a religious leaflet popped through the letterbox.
Now I have had in the past had quite a few christian church people knock on the door and give me a bit of a sermon or some form of literature.
You know the ones I mean Evangelists, Mormons, C of E, Watchtower, etc,etc

But the leaflet I had this week is a first for me.
A nice glossy green A5 leaflet (A4 folded).
On the front in large letters...

Muhammad
(PEACE BE UPON HIM)

The ideal example for
All Mankind
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Inside a few short paragraphs entitled...

Who is Muhammad?
Mission of Mercy.
Forgiveness.
Equality.
Tolerance.
Gentleness.
Rights for Women.
The Ideal Example.
And ending in... Comments from George Bernard Shaw.

It made interesting reading and the comparisons with the Christian ethics were so unbelievably similar.

I think its such a pity that a few Dictatorial and Tyrannical Muslims have given the Qur`an such a bad name by using it for their terrorist activities.

Ps, Rose, betcha wish you hadn't posted this thread now.... :-D :-D :-D

JC (sic) Jesus and John the Baptist are Muslim prophets. Several Jewish prophets from Old Testament and Talmud are prophets of Islam. Similarities of major religions in world are quite striking. The average Muslim knows a lot more about John the Baptist than the average non-Muslim (incluidng many Christians who are regular church goers)

Islam and Christianity are from same Jewish roots (but don't tell anyone) Shhhh!

And all religions stand for peace and love. It is men and women who spoil things, who do not follow either the teachings of Christ Jesus or the teachings of the great prophet peace be upon him.

Even those of other religions or none know the difference between right and wrong.

...I'm afraid the Bible mentions the good of war.....

For the good follower of Islam, 'heaven' isn't 70 virgins - as proposed to young (for they tend to be young - encouraged by older men) suicide bombers, but, according to the Qu'ran:
'Paradise is at the foot of your mother'

Ye Gods, Rose, you opened that envelope!! :-0
Well, you're never going to have all your debts cancelled now, you norty girl.

In case anyone is interested, if I get junk mail with a pre-paid envelope enclosed, I stuff it with as much other junk mail as I can, and post it back. Yes, I know, little things please little minds :-D :-D but it gives me such a wonderful sense of satisfaction.

Maggie Very interesting point about the virgins. Didn't know that - what's more important, young men wearing rucksacks don't seem to know that either.

Remembrance Sunday next month is always interesting and challenging. Some of our ancestors were Sunday School teachers and the like, and yet couldn't wait to join Colonel Melchett's men and be shot alongside Captains Darling and Blackadder.

And I would argue (me argue?) with my dad because he fought in WW2. I was all for peace and love - it was teh mid 1960's, after all. But dad was patient with me, explained the situation in 1938 and 1939, and I rather think on balance WW2 was a necessay evil for greater good.
