MARIA INVITES JESUS
Maria’s life spiralled out of control after she became addicted to drugs. She lost her job, her family, and eventually ended up on the streets.

“I never thought I’d make it past 30. I believed I was too far gone for anyone—especially God—to care about me.”

One evening, a group from a local church was handing out food and sharing the Gospel. “They didn’t look at me with disgust. They looked at me with love.” That night, Maria prayed for the first time in years.

“The moment I cried out to Jesus, I felt a love I had never known. I knew I wasn’t alone anymore.”

Through the help of a faith-based recovery program, she experienced God’s grace, healing, and restoration. Today, Maria helps others find freedom from addiction through the same love that saved her.

Daniel invites Jesus

For years, Daniel believed that God was just a fairy tale. Science, logic, and reason made more sense to him. But deep down, there was an emptiness he couldn’t shake.

“I had everything I thought I wanted—success, money, relationships. But at night, I’d lie awake with this deep sense of meaninglessness. I told myself, ‘You don’t need God,’ but something kept drawing me back.”

One day, after a conversation with a Christian friend, Daniel decided to pray—just once. “God, if You’re real, show me.” That prayer set off a series of events that Daniel couldn’t explain away. Over time, he came to realise that Jesus wasn’t just an idea, but a real, living Saviour.

“When I finally surrendered, I felt something I had never experienced before—peace.”

Today, Daniel is a passionate follower of Christ, helping others who struggle with doubt find truth in Jesus.

INVITATION
For many of us, home is where we can be our true, unpolished selves. It’s a place where messes happen, and there’s space to sort them out, no matter how chaotic the process may be. Yet, if we’re honest, very few of us feel comfortable welcoming “outsiders” into the everyday chaos of our homes.

We often feel embarrassed to be seen as we truly are. We think that untidy homes aren’t worthy of the visitors we value. As a result, we either avoid inviting people in at all or quickly tidy up the evidence of our real lives before answering the door.

However, in Matthew 8, we are reminded of something beautiful: the most important Guest we could ever have wants to be a part of the moments we often don’t let others see. Home is where we can be our true, unpolished selves, and it’s okay to embrace the messiness of life.

Good morning :-)

There is a famous painting titled "The Light of the World," created in the 1840s by the artist Holman Hunt.

The artwork depicts Christ standing at a door, knocking to be let in. Notably, the door lacks a handle, symbolising that it can only be opened from the inside. This design choice represents "the deliberately shut mind."

The painting illustrates a Biblical scene specifically referenced in Revelation 3:20, where Jesus states, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock."

This leads us to think...................are we willing to open our hearts and let Jesus in?

Good morning :-)

Yesterday, we heard how Jesus invited himself to Zacchaeus’ house. Maybe he had to rush home to tidy up! It would be quite something to have Jesus visit your home……………..

If Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two
If he came unexpectedly, I wonder what you’d do.
Oh, I know you’d give your nicest room to such an honoured Guest,
And all the food you’d serve to Him would be the very best,
And you keep assuring Him you’re glad to have Him there
That serving Him in your own home is joy beyond compare.
But when you saw Him coming, would you meet Him at the door
With arms outstretched in welcome to your heavenly Visitor?
Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in?
Or hide some magazines and put the Bible where they’d been?
Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn’t heard?
And wish you hadn’t uttered that last, loud, hasty word?
Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?
And I wonder if the Saviour spent a day or two with you,
Would you go right on doing the things you always do?
Would you go right on saying the things you always say?
Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?
Would your family conversation keep up its usual pace?
And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace?
Would you sing the songs you always sing, and read the books you read,
And let him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed?
Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you’d planned to go?
Or would you, maybe, change your plans for just a day or so?
Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends?
Or would you hope they’d stay away until His visit ends?
Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on?
Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?
It might be interesting to know the things that you would do?
If Jesus Christ in person came to spend some time with you

Good morning :-)

Sorry I missed yesterday - it was All Saints' Day, a day when we remember those who have gone before us. We had a quiet service in church to remember those from our parish who had died in the last 12 months. Candles were lit in their memory, and the families received a small knitted heart as a reminder that we care for them. <3

The Collect (special prayer for today)
Almighty and eternal God,
you have kindled the flame of love
in the hearts of the saints:
grant to us the same faith and power of love,
that, as we rejoice in their triumphs,
we may be sustained by their example and fellowship;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Today's Gospel is the story of Zacchaeus, the tax collector who climbed up a tree to see Jesus.

Dear God, on a day when darkness is celebrated, we pray for your light. Shine across our world and lead people to yourself this Halloween. We ask that you lead people to turn away from evil, from witchcraft, from new age activities, from darkness. Reveal your light and your glory to them. Help us to fight against the work of the devil this Halloween, equip us and strengthen us. Amen.

Good afternoon - another of 'those' days!! :-)

Tomorrow is Halloween. Many Christians do not agree with Halloween. Why?

Perhaps because it makes evil seem like harmless fun, but in reality, it is a serious threat. Secondly, that 'bit of fun’ focuses on obvious, scary things like witches, skulls and skeleton costumes, which aren’t exactly hilarious.

It’s easy to ignore the less obvious forms of evil that we face every day, like lying, gossiping, and stealing. It's easy to forget that something evil can often look very attractive. Playing with the supernatural, such as seances, witchcraft, etc, is wrong, dangerous and condemned in the bible.

As Christians, we believe that evil has been defeated through Christ's sacrifice on the cross, and THAT’S the story worth celebrating, rather than Halloween.

So, should Christians celebrate Halloween? Ask God, check your heart, and then move forward with confidence in whatever He leads you to do.

HUMILITY

In a busy city, a wealthy merchant saw an old man sweeping the streets. Curious, he asked why the man served others despite being poor. The old man smiled and said that true greatness comes from serving others with a humble heart, which makes him richer in ways money can't buy.

The merchant noticed that the community loved and respected the old man for his kindness. Over time, he realised that, despite his wealth, the old man was truly great in the eyes of the people and God.

This story shows the importance of humility and helping others, reflecting the Gospel message of being a servant to all.

HUMILITY

Christian humility isn't about putting yourself down or pretending to be less capable. Instead, it's about focusing on God’s will and caring for others more than seeking status or control. It means being honest about your weaknesses, thankful for God’s grace, and choosing to serve rather than lead. In essence, Christian humility is about surrendering your desire for honour and power so that God can work through you.

HUMILITY

This man was born in a gypsy tent, of humble origins, and yet ended up being invited to the White House by two presidents. Rodney ‘Gypsy’ Smith came into the world in 1860 in Epping Forest, just outside London.

Forty-five times, he crossed the Atlantic to preach the gospel to millions of people on both sides. His passion was almost unparalleled, and there was great fruit in his work. What was his secret? Humble private prayer. His praying was even more powerful than his preaching.

A delegation once came to him to enquire how they might experience personal and mass revival as he had. They wanted to be used the way Gypsy was. Without hesitating, he said, “Go home. Lock yourself in your room. Kneel down in the middle of the floor, and with a piece of chalk, draw a circle around yourself. There, on your knees, pray fervently and brokenly that God would start a revival within that chalk circle.”

Collect (special prayer) for today:
Blessed Lord,
who caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning:
help us so to hear them,
to read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them
that, through patience, and the comfort of your holy word,
we may embrace and for ever hold fast
the hope of everlasting life,
which you have given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

In today's Gospel reading, we hear Jesus discussing the importance of humility.

Persistence in Prayer

In a nutshell, prayer can change lives, mend hearts, and create miracles. So keep praying, keep believing, and watch as the extraordinary unfolds in your life!
When shadows fall and hope seems frail,
Through whispered words, our hearts prevail.
A steady flame, though winds may roar,
Faith knocks upon the unseen door.
Each plea ascends, a fragile thread,
To weave the path where angels tread.
Though silence greets, we still confide,
For love unseen walks by our side.
In patience, strength begins to grow,
Through trials faced, His grace will show.
The answers come, in time, in light,
Through darkest storms, He holds us tight.
So kneel again, with steadfast care,
There’s power in persistent prayer.

Persistence in Prayer

We have Rachel, who faced the loss of a loved one. In her grief, she found solace in prayer. Every evening, she would sit quietly, pouring her heart out to God. While the pain didn’t vanish overnight, Rachel felt a comforting presence that assured her she was not alone.

One day, she found herself laughing at a memory that would have once brought tears. “I guess God has a way of turning my frown upside down,” she said with a smile. Rachel’s journey shows that prayer not only brings comfort but also helps us find joy even in the darkest times.

The Financial Crisis: A Prayer for Miracles
Next up is Tom, a small business owner who faced financial ruin due to unexpected circumstances. With his savings dwindling and creditors knocking at the door, Tom turned to prayer as a last resort.

He prayed for wisdom, for creativity, and for a miracle. Shortly after, a long-lost friend reached out, offering to invest in his business. Tom’s eyes widened, and he exclaimed, “Who knew that my prayers would come with a side of friendship?”

His experience illustrates how prayer can lead to unexpected blessings and solutions.

The Wayward Son: A Prayer for Redemption

Let’s not forget about Linda, who had a son who seemed to be on a one-way street to trouble. After countless conversations, lectures, and even a few parental eye-rolls, Linda realised that her son needed more than just advice—he needed prayer.

Every night, she would pray fervently for his safety and guidance. One day, out of the blue, her son called her, saying he wanted to come home. After a heartfelt conversation, he shared that he had found faith during a difficult time. Linda chuckled, “Turns out, God has a better GPS than I do!” Her story highlights the power of prayer to reach hearts that seem unreachable.

The Job That Wasn’t There: A Prayer for Provision

Then there’s Mark, a man who found himself in a tight spot after losing his job during an economic downturn. With bills piling up and his confidence dwindling, he turned to prayer. Each morning, he would wake up, brew a strong cup of coffee, and pray for guidance and provision.

One day, while scrolling through job listings, he stumbled upon an opportunity that seemed tailor-made for him. He applied, prayed some more, and—surprise!—he got the job! Mark often jokes, “I didn’t just get a job; I got a divine upgrade!”

His story serves as a reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a little faith and a lot of prayer to open doors we didn’t even know existed.

Persistence in prayer
Prayer is a powerful practice that can bring comfort, guidance, and connection to something greater than us. However, maintaining a consistent prayer life can be challenging, especially when faced with distractions and doubts.

The Miracle of Healing: A Mother’s Prayer
Meet Sarah, a devoted mother of three who faced every parent’s worst nightmare—her youngest child was diagnosed with a rare illness. The doctors were baffled, and the prognosis was grim. In the midst of sleepless nights and endless worry, Sarah turned to prayer.
She gathered her family and friends for a prayer vigil, filling the room with heartfelt supplications. Days turned into weeks, and just when hope seemed to dwindle, a miracle occurred. The doctors, initially sceptical, were astonished to find that the illness had vanished without a trace! Sarah humorously quipped, “I guess God took my prayers and said, ‘Challenge accepted!’”

The Collect (special prayer for today)

Almighty and everlasting God,
increase in us your gift of faith
that, forsaking what lies behind
and reaching out to that which is before,
we may run the way of your commandments
and win the crown of everlasting joy;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever Amen.

In the Gospel today, we hear the story of an incredibly persistant widow!.

AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE:
Making the World a Better Place

Pastoral care

Most churches have dedicated volunteers who feel called to support the compassionate and spiritual aspects of parish life, assisting the clergy as needed. They may help with service planning, music, leading prayers or joining the choir.

Additionally, many are willing to take Home Communion to those who can no longer attend church or may attend baptism preparation classes, where they can meet young parents.

Some ensure that the church is ready and welcoming for baptisms, weddings, and funerals.

We are also deeply grateful for the work done by our clergy.

Thank you to all those who help with pastoral care in our parishes.
