Dawnie, maybe someone from your family should have a word with the people who were thoughtless, , those heaps of compacted snow are the last to thaw and melt away. Mind you, what a picture, you 'revving' like mad while your o.h. pushes lol

Why not suggest your local news looks at things like this, they can ride round the area and take pics of obstacle courses and then those who cause them might realise how stupid they have been.

I thought you were told not to clear your paths etc if they were public highway as if someone slipped on it they could sue you (or did I dream that) Now on our road there is a family a few doors down who have a disabled daughter and they have cleared a path our right over main public pathway to kerb so she can get in school taxi but they have loaded it up each side and I cant get my mobility scooter through unless hubby pushed me as well as me driving it full pelt. Now having a disabled wheelchair user you would think they would of thought about it a bit better.

Hubby cleared path us and neighbours use but threw snow onto our front garden and stopped wher path meets public path

Not sure on this, but I think it is an offence to put snow from your drive onto the kerb or in the road (Queens Highway)

Don't get me started on heaps of snow :-|

In our close, everyone clears their drive and the lowered pavement section on to the road. Most pile the spoil on their (open plan) garden, or on the road, along where the kerb would be.

Except for the thoughtless few, who are nearer to the T junction. They just clear the drive and leave two great piles like gateposts >in< the road, one each side of the now cleared driveway.

Anyone having to drive from the furthest end has to negotiate the bend, then the salom course so generously provided by other residents :-| :-|

Several times this week, after each fall of snow, our neighbour has been out and cleared the snow from her drive as well as the path and road outside her house.

Instead of piling up against the wall that runs along the front of her garden, she has very carefully shovelled it into a big heap on the grass verge opposite her house.

As a result, the people who live across the road cannot park outside their own house as the pile comes halfway up their car door and they can't open it !!!!

A grit bin was planted at the top of our road several years ago, the first Summer the contents were spread over the road, by local youngsters, it has never been refilled, despite many requests by residents. M

Interesting thread. Just been out trying to keep my bit of pavement clear. Now I have no salt for my chips later :-(

My local council made a big thing out of saying they would grit where possible and had already overspent their budget but that local people should make use of the free grit bins dotted around the area.
Great - except most of them are empty!

This cul de sac has no pavements ( error by builders who misread the plans years back apparently) The numerous cars up and down (11 in all) have made the roadway a series of icy ruts and it's impossible to walk on until it thaws and disappears. There are at least 6 men under 50 who could make an effort to clear a pathway at least but not one has done a thing, as long as they can drive out they don't give a wotsit about others who have to walk, like the elderly lady at the end of the cul de sac and people like me and my neighbour etc

I think we should have a grit box so we could at least put some down when it first got icy, would have made life so much easier.

Ann This morning I walked to the post office for milk as you forgot to get me any on your way back from having your hair done. :-D :-D

Walking on cleared paths was fine. It was where snow was still about that worried me as it had started to thaw and then froze again.

But I expect you have had a lot more where you are so you may be right.

to be honest I wish people would leave it alone if it's not too deep cos it's easier to walk on - when it get shovelled away - and never quite all of it - it turns into a skid patch with is a death trap and a fast track to A & E

Remember years ago when each householder did their bit and it all went in the gutter and kerbside. Then throw the ashes from the coal fires across the road to help the drivers. Even helping other less able neighbours. I know many must do it but there is less community spirit imo

Reminds me of a couple of amusing sights I came across this morning.
First I saw a little old lady trying to do her best for the local motorists (roads were shocking this morning). She was stood in the road putting salt down. Ok - great community spirit. But she was using a little salt cellar bless her.
I walked around the corner and past an office where the junior had obviously been tasked with clearing the path to the front door. His bosses had given him a paint scraper to do it with and he was meticulously scraping every square inch to rid it totally of the white stuff. Methinks it will melt before he finishes.

why oh why when people clear their driveway's do they heap the snow up on each side of the gate post all across the pavement,
today i was like a very bad extra of skating on ice,
dog in tow i set out ,quite slippy under foot then the dreaded mount of snow & ice the full width of the pavement,(driveway's nice and clear & pretty,).over goes the dog no laughing now but i must have looked a site trying to keep upright
,why do they not put it either against their wall or on the edge of the kerb & keep the pavement for those of us who do use them,
well moaning over now ,keep safe on the snow & ice.
