to get to the telephone?

:-S

The 'phone had rung at least three times this morning, by the time I got to it whoever it was had hung up.

It rang again a few minutes ago when I was next to it, and answered it in time. The IMPATIENT person calling said "Oh, you are home, I've tried a few times and you didn't answer".

We have an answering machine that kicks in after ten rings.

I don't sit next to the phone all day!

We have FOUR telephones in the house, and I wasn't too far from any of them. I'm not as fast as I used to be, but I'm not THAT slow!

i have the same problem . we too have 4 phones around the house one is on the landing outside my "office" the small bedroom . Often the person has rung off before i can get to it. In the lounge one phone is across the room and it takes a few moments to get out the chair and get to it . Our daughter will let it ring till it goes into voice mail as she knows we both get stiff sitting down and it takes time to get up

Have the same problem with the postman they ring and walk away . Told one of em walking back to his van with a parcel I am not standing behind the front door just on the off chance someone may call .

Annoying aint it :-(

Reminded me old an old joke, from school so that is realllllllly old!

A gentleman comes to England and having nowhere to live he hires a builder and tells him he wants a statue in every room.

When he gets the keys he calls the builder back asking where the statues are.

The builder takes him around the house showing him one of Venus in the hall, a bust of Napoleon in the kitchen, a horse in the lounge and copy of the thinker in the bedroom………….

No no says the client miming a phone a “hello is statue?”

OK I know, I can just hear the groans!

groooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!

:-D

I'll use that one

Our usual postman is really good, but we know when the "temp" is working. We find slips in the mailbox to say there's a parcel at the post office, it wasn't left because there was nobody home. Yes there was, the lazy *** couldn't be bothered walking to the door!

And....... I get really annoyed by those people who start knocking on the door before the dingdong dingdong dingdong dingdong has finished! I make myself walk slower, so they will have to wait just that wee bit longer! :-)

Have had that too Scozz
. Have opened the door to find a slip saying there is a parcel and you have to collect it from the parcel office cos no one was home. They didn't bother to ring .

The parcel office is some way away with limited opening hours and we have to drive there.

Most times the parcels aren't ours anyway , we live in Kent and our grandaughter
works in London so she isn't at her home during the day so gets em delivered to ours .
We don't mind taking em in its just so annoying when the postman is playing lazy devils and we get lumbered with doing the collection

The call I most dislike ,when you've struggled to get to the phone guess what nobody on the other end,and you've wasted all that effort :-(

with our phone if you leave a previous message undeleted, the answerphone kicks in after two rings........
however since going to AOL for the phone line there appears to be a "COMPANY" voicemail kicking in BEFORE it gets to our answer machine.......and have no idea how to access this voicemail.........does anyone know how?

several callers have told us that they have left messages, but they dont realise its not our home machine..........

Our phone is linked to a fax & only rings 3 times before it defaults to the fax.
Lost count of the number of times I´ve nearly necked myself to get to it, only to find it´s a wrong number. Unfortunately our number is very similar to the local builders´yard & a private clinic in town.
Mind you, as we are in Spain & I always answer in English, you would think they would realise they had the wrong number without asking if I am the place they want.
Same story as the others with the postman. Must be an international trick.

The only time I seem to get to the door in time is when the Jehovah's Witnesses call. They seem to wait longer than the postman :-S :-S

JWs don't knock or ring at my door - there is a notice telling them not to - in fact it applies to all the God squad and to many others as well - clear off!!! :-D

as for the telephone - someone rang last week asking to speak to my husband - I suggested they find a ouija board - he died over ten years ago

If I am going to move about the house (have 3 phones) and think I will not be near one of them I will take one around with me, into garden etc. so I can answer

But I get so annoyed with the knocks on the door. Knock Knock - just about to get up and KNOCK KNOCK a bit louder. Give me a chance to even stand let alone get to the door. Then they wonder why I am rude especially when they are 'selling' something I do not need nor want - doulbe glazing, loft insulation for free yeah right.... only free if you have no savings....

Invariably I just shut the door in their faces after telling them where to go.... By this time my knees are about to give up the ghost and the pain is unbearable...

We live in an upstairs flat, so, although I am still reasonably agile, it takes a while to get down the stairs to the door.

The regular postman will ring the bell, then deliver the mail to the other flat, then come back, by which time I have usually reached the door.
