Apart from genuine genealogy requests why do members chat on the boards.

What do you get out of it.

What do you like or don't like.

Why are some people so deliberately hurtful to others

No names but ....... <3

For many people, the chat boards are a window into the world. Where else could you hold a conversation with people you’ve never met who live across the UK and in other countries?

Board users could be elderly/infirm or otherwise housebound, have a very small social circle, or be shy/self conscious in real life situations.

I enjoy reading discussions on ‘news’ events. As a reply isn’t expected within a couple of seconds as it would be face-to-face, it is possible to read other’s opinions and form/post your own many minutes/hours later.

*wot Hayley said*

All human life is here.

Some people are totally transparent, although they believe themselves to be clever.

It's FUN :-D

A lot more interesting than watching tv

We can share stories, ask for advice, get recipes, get told a joke or tell one, find links to funny clips, get told where to get off etc etc

:-D

not asking for sympathy here - I live alone, as do many of us who post on this chat board - I have made some wonderful friends on here - many of whom I have met in person at several GR meets - I love the banter and the funny postings - I do not like people who enjoy being at the centre of everything, those who appear to know the cat's a>>e about every subject under the sun - generally speaking they are fantasists and there are a couple of those on here

I have asked for advice on here on several subjects and got some good answers, I have shared some of the more tragic aspects of my life and have been given some wonderful support

I was instrumental in getting the Depression thread off the ground - am immensely proud of that and the support that members have gained from it - it's been running a long time now and long may it continue

2011 - was declared 'the National Year of Speech, Language & Communication'.

I'm doing my best to uphold this ambitious idea in any way I can. And, apparently, an occasional contribution of mine gives a few readers a chuckle. That's grand!

Well summarised +++DetEcTive+++ as an elderly person with mobility problems, the boards keep my mind active and I would rather be participating on them as opposed to sitting in an armchair nodding off while watching repeats on television.

In addition to participating on the chat boards - I appreciate the valuable assistance I get with my tree from the volunteers on here, this cannot be surpassed by any other similar site :-)
