Are you thinking of Buddleia? Had one in our garden until we remodelled it, really does attract them.

Buddliah (probably not the correct spelling!) - I think that's the one that attracts butterflies, Paula. :-)

I was also thinking of the Buddleia plant.

May I say Buddleia too? :-D

It is also known as the Butterfly Bush.

I'm thinking some 'cottage garden' plants also attract butterflies but not as much as the Buddleia.

And it comes in several colours - the one we see all over the Lilac
White which I would love but have never found

And someone on here some time ago mentioned a Black one, which I presume is a really deep blue.

Has to be cut down annually or it will take over your garden.

buddleia - also good if you have nettles nearby as butterflies like to lay their eggs on nettles

Hope this link works for the RHS list of recommended plants/shrubs to attract butterflies:

Agree with Lesley, my hebes are usually well covered with flutterbies.
