The system in Scotland is much better: once an offer has been made and accepted, it is binding - no chance of having the removal men at the door only to find out that the buyer has changed his mind (happened to someone I know)

I m so glad you have new offer. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you.

What a nightmare selling/buying houses can be. When my husband died we had already sold our house to downsize to something smaller. Our purchaser had FOUR sales on his house fall through during which time my husband passed away. Then the Vendors of the house we had intended to purchase pulled out leaving me to find another house. Quite honestly I was in such a state I let the whole thing go over my head and let everyone else get on with it. I did find another brand new build and it was so much nicer than the other one, somethings happen for the best

Try not to stress GinN things will work out ................ eventually <3

Glad you have got a new offer GinN.

We are in the middle of negotiating a house move and the chap we are buying from is stalling a bit while our buyers are pushing to get everything sorted. I am terrified it is all going to fall through at the last minute so I know just how you must have felt.

Keeping everything crossed for you.

Update!

We received a new offer for my Dad's apartment last week, at the same price as the one which fell through. This lady is not in a chain, and is keen to move in.

Fingers crossed for this time! :-D

Apparently, we will be liable to pay Council Tax for the apartment if it's not sold within six months. Hmm - feeling even less charitable towards the said person now! :-|

Nolls from Harrogate

Nolls from Harrogate Report 24 Jun 2013 11:55

Council Tax changed a few weeks ago if a house is empty you now still have to pay the full rates. Son emigrated (we are looking after the sale of the house) and we applied for the rates to be quashed as house was empty, on the Thursday got the letter agreeing no rates were to be paid and another letter on the Tues saying "Sorry but rates are now to be paid in full" The funny thing is if one person was living in the house then you would get a rebate? Thank goodness it should be sold this week -- fingers crossed

It isn't the money that narks me as much as the waste of time. Ot feeling very charitable towards the person in question! But, we'll just have to put it behind us, and keep optimistic.

I know how you feel, I had a similar situation some years ago,

I much prefer the French system when buying or selling property.

Detective - probate is complete, apart from the sale of the apartment, and any expenses we occur will come out of the estate. My husband is the executor, and has done the probate himself. Don't think council tax will affect us, at least, I hope not!

Oh dear :-(

Perhaps you can get a refund when you do eventually sell. If you haven't gone to Probate yet, can it be included? What's happening about the Council Tax as the rules for that were supposed to be changing?

The woman who was going to buy my Dad's retirement apartment has pulled out. She was so keen to buy it back at the beginning of February, we took it off the market for her. After 4 and a half months - no progress, so now we have to go through the whole process again. What a waste of time!
The annoying thing is, when you inherit one of these places, you are liable to pay the annual service charge and ground rent, which is due at the end of next month.

Grrrrrrrrrr! :-|
