I have had several in the past, which should have gone to a person of the same name in the US.

Confirmation of Hotel booking
Reminders of conferences

I usually just delete them, but today I received a copy of a transaction + home address + credit card receipt.

I have tried working out just her correct email address but with no joy, as they all seem to be mine :-D

I am tempted to write her a short note, what would you do?

I guess the best way might be to reply to the sender (if you are sure it's not somebody trying to scam you) asking them to check their contact details and advise your "twin". They may have a mailing address for contact if the email they have is wrong.

It sounds a bit iffy to me.

I think that in similar circumstances I would continue to delete the emails. If genuine then it is up to the other individual to find out why they are not receiving email confirmation of transactions and credit card receipts ect, it is not your responsibility.

I agree with Jonesey - so continue to delete the emails as they sound a bit dodgy to me, if I received anything like that I would report it as a phishing scam.

The US phone book on-line is http://www.whitepages.com/

You could check out the name to see if it matches with the address
.
Do an independent search for the hotel, (edit or the place where the purchase was made) or check on trip advisor. If its shows up as a genuine place, you could use the contact us link on those pages and tell them the error.

Don't reply on the emailed links what ever you do.

Many years ago, at work we used to get numerous calls on a normal landline, that were fax calls, of course the call failed in the end we managed to divert a call to a fax machine, turned out they had the dialling code wrong,
although that doesn't explain how two people can have almost identical emails..
I suppose that you COULD send a email? at worst you will get it back,yourself...

thinks'................ is she getting emails meant for you?

I ment to add I would not use the "home" address myself but contacting a company / hotel you can verify should be fairly safe.

I have received some aswell. Flight conformations, Fed ex saying there a parcel waiting and yesterday conformation of a cancellation of an Amazon.com order.

All these go to my junk mail along with " we have suspended you Bank account" ect....so I ignore them

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 24 Jul 2013 11:59

Yes jax I've had the Amazon scam thing, looks very convincing too!
I got so many that I opened a seprate account for use with Amazon and blocked Amazon from my usual email account.

jax Report 24 Jul 2013 12:08

No it wasn't the normal we need you to update your details email....It could of been genuine but gone to me by mistake....but was'nt going to click on anything as I hadn't got anything on order and don't use .com

Normally anything genuine from Amazon goes to my inbox but this was in junk

Mayfield

Mayfield Report 24 Jul 2013 12:42

This was a " your cancelled order number xxxxxxxxx" looked exactly like a confirmation, not as you say the usual scam stuff it was at christmas and I had lots on order.
Something made me check the order numbers I had before opening and it was a very similar format and convincing order number. Amazon confirmed these were a problem.
So if anyone does shop with Amazon be aware sounds like they are at it again!

Sorry to hijack your thread Carol :-D

Carol this sounds pretty genuine to me.
I had a similar thing whereby someone in the States had evidently given out the wrong (but very similar) email address.
It won't be phishing because they are not actually asking you for anything or to do anything.
Most of the time I just ignored the emails because there was not a lot I could do about it but then one day I got a personal email from a friend of their's which was very obviously genuine so I just dropped them an email advising of the situation. They thanked me profusely and the problem was solved. It might be worth checking emails you receive to see if they have been sent to other addresses too (for example, the conference reminders may also have been sent to colleagues). If so, then just drop a quick email to one of the other recipients.

Thank you everyone.

I do not think this is any kind of scam as the address of this other Carol Paine is a real one. (found on Google maps). My thoughts about it are that if it was the other way round I would hope that they would let me know.

From that receipt I know:
Name & full address
Type of credit card it was paid with
Last 4 numbers of this card
Security number from reverse

I have emailed the company Errol, after checking that it existed & details the same as on email.
