Or an OH who insists on garlic with everything
I don“t dislike garlic in food, but find it pretty nauseating 2nd hand.

Thank you everyone, it's good to know I am not alone. I do so love my perfumes and still use them, they are just part of "Me"

@ Sharron Having previously smelled cat poo I would say daffodils are much better.

@ GiN Yes I suppose there is a silver lining in every cloud.

My sense of smell is damaged or de-sensitized I think by bottling perfume.

Neighbours cat came in and did one on the kitchen floor. I couldn't understand why my cats were acting strangely and why the house smelt of daffodils.

If you have a flatulent partner, it can even be an advantage! :-D

Hi Paula I was born without sense of smell but I do have taste, when I was ickle Mum took me for all kind of tests at Alder Hey Hospital, but there simply was no answer....I do have to be careful sometimes and it really can be a hindrance even though alot of people wouldn't think so.....I really do hope it comes back to you :-) <3

Well, Paula, I hope it does come back. I was going to pester my GP further before it came back, as I'm sure things can be done - there is a clinic in one of Norfolk's hospitals that specialises in this problem, for example.
Sometimes it does come back to normal on it's own, so good luck!

Thank you GP. I have Asthma and take two inhalers, also get Hay Fever . Fortunately it has not affected my sense of taste yet. I did not smell anything when OH put bacon under the grill, not quite burnt to a crisp but let's say it was extremely well done.

Hi, Paula. I gradually lost my sense of smell until it disappeared altogether a couple of years ago, along with most of my sense of taste, but now it's back with a vengeance!
At first, my GP gave me steroidal nasal sprays which made no difference. He said that there was nothing he could do, as when the sense cells die off due to age, that is it.
About 3 months ago, I got a chest infection and a very wheezy chest which didn't respond to antibiotics, so I was given a steroid inhaler, the type given to asthmatics.
That cleared up the problem, and also brought back my sense of smell and taste! My GP is not sure why, but I'm so pleased it worked!
It does take away a lot of pleasure when you lose these senses, and could be potentially quite dangerous if you can't tell when something is "off".
So, go to your GP, Paula, and be persistent. Good luck!

I still have taste but for a few months I have noticed I no longer have any sense of smell. It's such a strange feeling, I can't even smell my own perfume.

Did your OH lose both senses at the same time?

strange that Paula - cos you usually lose both senses at the same time - my Dad lost both after a road traffic accident
