I love todays hypermarket shopping experiences! I go to at least two every week ,and come back with books, things for the house, clothes, make up and toiletries, linens, oh! and a few items of groceries! Living in a small village with no shops, these places remind me of the big urban places I used to live in! :-D

Andy'smum ~

I don't have a choice! I live in a very small town, there's only one supermarket.

It's one of a huge chain in Australia, and all their supermarkets have the same layout.

I go to the local W@itrose. It is set out very well.

1st Aisle Fruit and Veg. Salads, ready meals.
2nd Aisle Tinned, baking, pickles
3rd Aisle Crisps, sweets, teas and coffees and cereals
4th Aisle Chilled and Frozen
5th Aisle Paper products, health.
6th Aisle Pet products, household
7th Aisle Soft drinks and Booze
Back of shop Bread, Fish, Meat, Deli, Rotisserie

They never change the aisles and I know where everything is.
Suits me, cos I HATE shopping!

I go to Asda or Morrison, I will not go to Tesco since I found out they buy land and do nothing with it, the reason is to stop any other store opening up and taking customers away them, there is a Tesco express less then 5 minutes walk from us but I won't go in there.

I have a mental health disorder that makes me uncomfortable around large groups of people, so would really hate to have to go shopping in town at the weekend. Just having to get on the bus is bad enough!

So for me it's great to be able to get non grocery items from my local Sainsburys, or else shop online.

after all, the word "market" in "supermarket" does suggest a variety of products - it's just that all the market stalls are under one roof and belong to one owner!

oh i like how they stock things other than food, littleman can be sent of with the old man, to browse the toys, while we do the food shop in peace :-D

Lady Scozz, your supermarket sounds most un-customer friendly. Most of our supermarkets have similar things together, like dairy products, cleaning things etc and our local Co-op has all its paper products in one aisle - there is even an overhead sign to tell you where. :-) :-)

I hate shopping.

I really dislike supermarkets that deliberately make you wander all over the place looking for things!

Especially....... cheese is at one end, milk is in the middle & yoghurt & butter is at the other end :-P That's how our local supermarket does it.

Paper products! I don't think there's a supermarket on earth that stocks all the paper in the same aisle! Kitchen towels, loo rolls, tissues & paper plates could be anywhere!

I quite enjoy the weekly shop, and am one of those who do occasionally wander off and have a browse around the clothes and books etc. It doesn't worry me, easy to bypass if you don't want to look.

In the main we go to M &S and Morrisons, and use Sainsburys online regularly.

But if we want a browse we go to the big Sainsburys at Sydenham where they have a large 'non- grocery' department, usually in the month leading up to Christmas. So we get all sorts of goodies in for his little nieces and nephews, and silly little tree pressies for each other.

But I regularly buy gifts on-line from unusual shops, and I always get complimented on my gifts which are never to be found on any high street.....

I think many are out to buy happiness or some sort of new identity.

I agree with you and when shopping just want to get what is written on the list, however I know many people who just enjoy the browsing and have time to do this, as more of a social event rather than a functional need.

Each to their own methinks Sharron, but I'm in your gang.

OH's mother was asking him why we don't shop in Tesco and Sainsbury. That is OH, the salesman's dream, his mother, beyond the salesman's wildest dreams.

He explained to her that we don't want to have to walk past clothes and televisions and GK what other pieces of irrelevant merchandise before we come to the milk and bread and stuff on our list.

She was most surprised because " that is all part of the shopping experience." Not one that makes the inevitable any more pleasant I would say.

If anything, I have had to hang about waiting for him to browse on a shopping trip more often than he has ever had to wait for me but he grew up waiting around in shops while the browsing was carried out with vigour and determination.
