Saturated Fat

Having just heard on the radio, that the government intends to reduce the amount of saturated fat we eat, with the backing of manufacturers (including Nestle, who intend making a 'healthy' Kit Kat), set me wondering, why are we still alive?
We used to eat saturated fat without thinking, can it really be so bad?
Trans fats were unknown then, but various experts reckon they're the worst.

Then I put 'saturated fat' into 'Goole' - the results were confusing to say the least!! :-S

Try Trans fats too - amazing!!

....so has someone got their saturated mixed up with their trans?

There is evidence that it is sugar and not fat that is causing most damage to health at the moment. So the things that say 'low fat' often have a huge amount of sugar instead to make the 'taste'.

But trans fats are definitely not good.

I shall continue to have butter on my toast :-D

Trans Fats are the evil fats of the fat world.

As long as you do not overdo it, stick to butter.

I am not too keen on butter and use Sunflower spreads, but as I do not have lots of bread etc., I am not too worried.

I enjoy nothing better than a fried slice (fried in beef dripping) with my fried bacon sausages and eggs, like real butter on my toast not spreads, and my favourite snack is cheese on toast (mature Scottish red cheddar), and I have no intention of changing my diet as a result of warnings or advice from government.

If we followed all the advice, from government and others, on what we should not eat we would all be dead from starvation - maybe that's there plan ;-)

Chips aren't as good as when I was child - and mum cooked them in lard :-D :-D
Roast potatoes aren't as nice as when we had them cooked in dripping.
Talking about dripping - lovely on toast :-D

In those days, I was extremely thin, with a very low blood pressure.
Now I use oil, and no longer eat dripping on toast. I've put on a little too much weight, and my BP has risen :-(

Mums chip pan held 2lb best beef dripping, she made delicious fish & chips every Saturday, she had another pan that she would use for doughnut-rings, but these days as I am on my own I have been reduced to using Aunt Bessie's Crinkle Cut Chips which I cook in a halogen oven and doughnuts from the local bakers :-(

'Fat Free' is not the same as 'Free Fat' - just in case this makes any difference to the discussion, which I doubt.

Read on-line yesterday that apparently coffee is now okay and beats a fruit smoothie :-S....of course we know fruit has sugar but?.....wish they'd make their ruddy minds up :-|..... I always hold the view that a little bit of what you fancy does you good......in moderation :-D

I think saturating yourself in fat once in a while........does you good.

I think it is because there is an abundance of some foods so "they" tell us it is good for us when those stocks have gone down it is bad for us so "they" go onto something else, it just a viscous circle and I intend to eat what is right for me.
On both sides of my family they have died in thier 80s or 90s, if I live that long I won't complain. :-P

My doctor told me that he wants me to get back to my original weight.

Let's face it, 8lb 6oz is not very realistic is it?

Roy

Added, I don't care what the experts tell us, all my family lived to a ripe old age eating just what they liked, I believe that the problems today are more to do with how our food is produced and also the processes and additives used in processed foods.

A valid point Roy and one that my Dad would have agreed with, he had a big garden and grew mostly vegetables which tasted lovely.
I see women at the supermarket putting plastic bags on their hands to pick out the potatoes etc that they want and not get dirt on their hands, me thinks that they weren't grown in dirt in the first place, heaven forbid they might have to dig up their own :-0
