It use to be like that in the cigarette machines all cost the same, but would vary to how many you got

Some manufacturers (not just of cigarettes) have been doing it for some time.
It is also how certain high street shops manage to keep prices at around about a pound or thereabouts. Roughly.
Also, some tobacco products and alcoholic beverages may have had their prices reduced slightly in recent days.
This is a known ploy by many supermarkets.
Prices will naturally go up following the impending budget.

To precis article, it says that portion control is to keep prices stable by reducing pack size from 20 to 19 and by increments during Lent so that a 20 packet will only contain 13 cigarettes by Easter.

And, after Easter, the length of the thirteen cigarettes will be reduced gradually. A surprising and shocking article in Daily Mail.

Hubby did the shopping today and picked up my usual ciggies but now only 19 in a packet - still same price.
