Perhaps it would be helpful to members if the advice in the Help Pages, as I quoted below, is updated to reflect the fact that separate email accounts are now needed to set up additional accounts.

Hi Warmbells,

You can only register once per email address. At the moment to have more than on tree you will need to register two accounts (using two email addresses).

Regards

Shelley

See under 'Adoption' in the Help Section:-

If you wish to reflect an adoption by tracing both families, you will need to build 2 trees. In order to build both family trees you will need set up 2 memberships. If you log off the current details via the 'Sign Out' link in the top right hand corner of the site, then go to the register page you will be able to complete the second registration. Once complete you will be able to switch between memberships by logging off and entering the separate log in details each time.

In order to make Genes Reunited as safe and secure as possible, we can no longer support accounts sharing the same email address.

Unfortunately is already being used by another member, and we require that you provide a different email address before registering on the site.

If you need any help please contact our customer support team.

When you register multiple accounts - using same email ad and password - the name you register with becomes the root name ie the name which starts that tree.

You can change that name if you don't want your real one available to others but having a different root name for each tree just makes it easier and quicker to identify each one. Just my opinion on the last point.

Maybe someone from GR should comment on this?

It would just be their real name as many multiple tree owners have......different membership numbers but in the same name......my daughter has two, both using her full name including middle name

no

but you do need a name to put on your tree, so that paying members can contact you.

If you don't have a Board name, then GR use your Account Name ......... and you may not want that spread around

jax

jax Report 8 Mar 2014 23:27

Ummmm

Not sure about that Sylvia...but maybe

But you wouldn't need a board name if you just want to make another tree.....that's what I meant, as you are not going to be stupid enough to pay for another subscription....or maybe you would :-D

Jax

I think a newbie is more likely to be given 'Unknown" as a board name if they have not indicated a Board name

jax

jax Report 8 Mar 2014 21:51

Most new people who join now have their real name as board name until they change it to a made up name.... ... I think?

Island

Island Report 8 Mar 2014 21:33

Try it Jax.

Actually, it's whatever you choose to put in the forename and surname boxes when you register. Harking back to the days when tthose names identified us through board use it seemed a better option to put in a made up name.
For some reason, GR now refers to these root names as 'site names'.

The site name refered to "is the web address" and is to distinguish between accounts

http://www.genesreunited.com.au/

http://www.genesreunited.co.nz/

http://www.genesreunited.co.za/

Take your pick or

just get another email account

If it is a free account why would you need a site name?

Island

Island Report 8 Mar 2014 20:25

Hi Warmbells, yes. Same email adress, same password but you will need different site names for each account.

Have you tried it?

Hi,
Can I register twice with the same email adress so I can have two trees?

Thanks,
