Amazing Ann! My MIL's sister was a midwife and they lived in a small village on Skye called Struan. I wonder if they knew each other? Sadly Aunty died a few months ago in inverness where she had lived for many years.

Such a small world isn't it?

I loved it. The scenery was a bonus and I too look forward to the next episode.

Yes, Raasay near Skye - her name was Nancy Park - she adopted a baby boy she delivered - apparently to an unmarried mother - many years ago now

Sorry Elizabeth if i have spoilt it!!!
Maggie Ali Bain has been here a few times too. Walking across crofts as a short cut was something we did at new year many years ago, no taxis then and only one in this district now.

The mist and music was so realistic and added to the mystery. When the Haar creeps in here it really can be quite eery and ghostly!

Anne, Raasay in Skye? My MIL and SIl often stay there in the summer at the manse. BIL is a Deacon in the church. MIL was born in Skye and i love it there. It's nickname is "The Misty Isle".

I hope the next story is just as good, worth watching.

Thanks for all you comments

I also read the books by Ann Cleeves. I always find the TV version different and that applies to other adaptions as well.
This one tho. i found to be reasonably true to the book, and i did enjoy the programme. The only thing that was very different was Jimmy himself who in the books is said to have dark hair !!!! The TV Jimmy was nothing like i had imagined.!!

Loved the background music and scenery, it all added to making a good prog.,

I really enjoyed the books and find the tv version sooo different.

So I've given up on the TV one and will enjoy the books instead.

I watched it - and it brought back many happy memories.
Don't know where the 'Pier' bar is though! Even tried googling it - it doesn't exist.
However, when they went into the Queens,(it hasn't changed, and reviews confirm this!) brought back (just about :-S) memories of drinking competitions with Polish, Norwegian, Icelandic and Russian fishermen :-D (One tot of whisky for me - 3 for them, cos I was a third of their weight - I usually won!!)
The Lounge bar - my haunt, laden with shopping on a Saturday afternoon, where, quite often, Ali Bain and various member of Boys of the Lough were playing. I'd have a few bevvies (rarely paid for by me), then John Christie from West Burra would turn up in his taxi, and take me home to East Burra, where I would then have to launch my slightly sozzled self over 5 fields (therefore 6 fences) with my shopping - avoiding the sheep as I went!!

However, I was usually sober. The scenery is breathtaking, the people wonderful.!!

The cells have been tarted up - the one time I stayed there (due to being stranded by a sudden snow storm, and only 1 taxi on the whole island coming out with snow chains) we only had 1 dirty blanket.

I watched the pilot episode a few months back and enjoyed it - have recorded this new one but not watched it yet - very atmospheric

Florence - a relative of mine lived on Raasay - she was midwife for the Highlands and Islands - how she ended up there I have no idea - she was born just down the road from me

I thoroughly enjoyed the twists and turns of this mystery. I didnt suspect the girl at all. Was anyone else following this story?

As I live on a scottish island myself, I am rather interested in other islands especially when they make a programme somewhere where you've been or live. Although i havent been to Shetland, I have been to Orkney. Both are similar with their rugged coastlines to the outer hebrides.

Next week there is a new storyline. Hope it's as good as this one was.
