how do i know a message is delivered to a member ?

Hi im a new member i sent a message to two members how do i know if my message was recieved and if the member is still active ?

Welcome to the boards Linda

If the envelope is no longer showing then the message has been read

You cannot tell if it is still active...but can roughly tell how old the membership is by the number

at the moment we are up to 13 million + and the site started late 2002

I joined in 2007 and my membership number is 7 million +

13669426 is your number, Linda

if you hover your curser over the name of a member it appears (usually ) on your bottom left screen corner

To find it just hover your mouse over your board name and it should appear bottom left corner as http://www.genesreunited/new/ then your number

Linda - hover your mouse over the name of any poster and look to the bottom left corner of your screen.

If I do that while typing to your name it reads
www.genesreunited.co.uk/messages/new/13669426

13669426 is your membership number.

Jax who joined in 2007 is 7471310, so the member you sent a message to joined before her.

to find out if the message has been read by the member ................ go into Messages (top row), click on Sent messages

If the envelope is showing, it has not been opened

If the envelope is not showing, then the member has opened and (hopefully) read it.


There are a number of reasons why members may not read their messages ..............

1. they have changed their home email address but forgotten to notify GR so no messages from GR can get to them

2. They have lost interest in genealogy and ignore all messages from GR that appear in their home email system OR, they might have forgotten their password and can no longer get onto the site.

3. They have become incapacitated or died, and no-one else knows their password so their trees remain on GR.


A member may open your message and then decide not to reply ...................

1. they've lost interest and can not be bothered

2. You might have sent incomplete information, and the member decides not to take it any further.

3. they just do not want to reply to you.
