How many of you have brass ornaments hidden in cupboards because they're so horrible to clean? Messy & time consuming!

I used to take mine outside, loads of newspapers, rubber gloves & Brasso..... stinky stuff.

I saw this hint in a magazine........ Worcestershire Sauce :-D

I just tried it on three little brass ornaments....... rubbed them with a cloth dipped in Worcestershire Sauce, rinsed them off and then a good rub with a soft duster.

Not as gleaming as Brasso, but they're not dingy & horrible looking now.

:-D

I have two long leather straps full of "horse brasses" that look disgusting........ might give them a rub at the weekend.

Now........ where am I going to put the rest of the brass once I've cleaned it??

:-D

I prefer something a bit thicker like Daddies or HP.

My grandfather, who was a silversmith used to recommend salt, mixed to a paste with lemon juice.
It actually works & smells nicer.

I have a few brass ornaments that were treasured by my grandparents and parents.

I now have them and use brasso as Mum did, but will try the other tips :-D

More 'stuff' to gather dust. All mine (and those I interited from Gran and Mum) we long ago to the charity shop. Let someone else dust and polish them!!!

Thanks Wisechild, I'll try the salt.

I have a few brass ornaments, some were my grandmother's and my mother's.

They might be old fashioned.......so are my Toby Jugs!

:-D

If anyone still wants to keep their brass,I found a few years ago a metal polish called MAAS.,which is long lasting.

I have a few pieces that are special to me.remember my gran cleaning them.a lovely brass trivet and copper kettle that I have by my fireplace.also candlesticks, shell case and pokers.

This is quite expensive, but I only clean my brasses about twice a year as this is really good..think it's from the States ...google it ....much longer lasting than brasso.

My wife cleans her brass and copper with Brasso...Really bad bits get salt/lemon mix....I don't think there's a room in the house without brass something or the other in it....All gets good clean at Spring clean then rubbed over during the year once or twice.....She was good even when she was young,,used to clean my brass bits on RAF uniform,,we were only courting then...Regards...LES. :-) :-) :-)
