Hi Ann
I have not used my Genes tree since 2012 but I had the same sort of problem that you have.
You have a person that is not connected to both parents even though they are in your tree?
Click on the CHILD
Click on ADD
You get Which family member would you like to add ?
Click on the one you want to ADD
EG Add father

Add New
Find Existing<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Enter the name of the person you are looking for in the search box.
You can also search by year of birth or death. You can add the details in any
order, but they must be separated by commas
e.g. Isambard, Kingdom, Brunel, 1806

I hope this is what you are looking for.

Each child has the option to change a parent. This is on the pop out details page at the bottom.
If I was doing it I would change the spelling slightly of the mother that I wanted to keep and change it back after I had finished.
So Eg Mary Brown change to Marie Brown . Go to each child and make Marie the mother. Now delete all the Marys.

There is a 'Delete' if you hover your mouse over the box shown on the tree - the problem comes when you aren't 'allowed' because they are related to someone else.

As a rule of thumb, you have to delete from the bottom up, or the top down before you can delete the offending relative. It can be quite sole destroying if they are in the middle of the tree.

For your own interest, go to the Full Tree view and see how/if the duplications are displayed.
